The VAR World Cup Review So Far

Anthony Kendrick is joined by Nick Davie and Oliver Newman in a show which looks at the world cup so far. We discuss all the VAR controversy seen so far, including the wrestling on Harry Kane, the record number of penalties awarded and some of the correct decisions given. Is it worth it? Some of the top sides underwhelmed in the Group Stages, with Argentina being fortunate to qualify, and the likes of France and Brazil not playing particularly well. Germany continued the curse of winners making an early exit, with losses against Korea and Mexico consigning them to bottom spot in Group F. We debate whether England can go all the way, following their second place finish. They play Colombia next, and one of Sweden or Switzerland. Have we seen improvement in this side compared to recent years? Thanks for listening Check out www.v2football.com and follow us on twitter @v2sportnetwork

Anthony Kendrick, Shane Lees and Richard 'Hero' Hudson preview the 2018 world cup. Will this be the tournament that England finally deliver, given that they have won just six tournament knockout games since 1966? We discuss whether Gareth Southgate has done a good job, given the praise from the media and England's strongest line-up. Is one defensive midfielder sufficient against the top sides? We look at the other major contenders for the World Cup. Brazil, Belgium, Argentina, Germany, Spain and France are the favourites, but can these be narrowed down? We talk about the side which has an extremely strong attack on paper but not in practice. And also, how will Lopetgui announcing that he is joining Real Madrid affect Spain? We also look at the dark horses. Portugal will want to build on their surprise Euro 2016 victory. But can the likes of Croatia, Mexico or Colombia cause a surprise? Anthony Kendrick is joined by Shane Lees and Peter Prickett for this week's episode of the V2 Football Podcast. We begin by discussing the final games of the domestic season. Firstly, the FA Cup Final won by Chelsea in what a game billed as the worst cup final in years. The Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool is also analysed, and whether it will live up to its billing as an extremely attacking final. The new managerial appointments are discussed. Did Arsenal make the right choice with Unai Emery, with Arteta seemingly the preferred candidate? And should West Ham be looking more long-term with their appointment of Manuel Pellegrini? We finish by discussing Gareth Southgate's England squad, which contained a few surprises. Was it right that Chris Smalling, Joe Hart, Ryan Bertrand and Jack Wilshere all missed out? Are the likes of Danny Welbeck and Danny Rose deserving of their places on the plane? Thanks for listening! Anthony Kendrick is joined by Shane Lees and Andy Clark for this week's edition of the V2 Football Podcast. We discuss various issues, including: - Teams in the EFL may not produce match programmes next season, with it potentially being optional rather than mandatory. - The Champions League semi-finals. Do Liverpool need to improve their game management to win the final, and how lucky were Real Madrid? - Is Harry Kane getting too much stick, with him being jokingly credited with every goal ever scored and being in Chris Smalling's back pocket? - Can Southampton beat the drop following their 2-1 win over Bournemouth? Son of the Pitch also makes a dramatic return. Shane provides two fiendishly difficult questions as he takes over hosting duties. Thanks for listening! Follow us on twitter @V2SportNetwork
