Technically, FTP is on a production break, but we don't want you, our loyal listener, to go without great footy travel content, so we're bringing you episodes of other footy, travel, or footy-travel podcasts we think you'll enjoy. And we're starting with something very special… …the entire 1st season of Counterspective. Counterspective is another Fyper Media podcast, and Season 1 was the precursor to the Footy Travelers Podcast. It was released in the summer of 2019, a year after Mike and Colin's third World Cup: Russia 2018. As you'll quickly learn, it goes well-beyond the in-stadium experiences they had, beyond the footy - although one of the episodes is focused on that topic specifically - and it dives deep into the details and nuances of traveling in a country most of us wouldn't dare to visit at the present moment. As the now monikered Footy Travelers met new people, tried new food, and tested their really poor Russian language skills, they explored Ruski culture through that footy travelers lens. This is Episode 3: Vodka Breakfast. Marcus and Luke are back with Lions Watch, your one-stop shop for all things England! This week, we hail Arsenal for doing the right thing and ask how much England’s Champions League and Europa League absences really matter for a team so… completely and utterly well-drilled. That’s right, it’s 2018: Kieran Trippier’s whipping in free-kicks, an Englishman is winning the golden boot, and press relations are actually all right. JAMIE VARDY | Before They Were Famous | FIFA WORLD CUP 2018
Renowned for his creativity and astonishing ability on the soccer field, Paul Pogba is the most impressive footballer in the world also one of the most expensive. Besides being a role model to football fanatics he's also a success story for the millions of African refugees the world over. Pogba's parents made it to France with little more than the clothes on their backs. Growing up in an apartment complex overlooking a small soccer stadium young Paul became obsessed with the sport as soon as he could walk, a lifetime of practice, grit, determination and love for the game would mould him into one the legend he is today – and on top of this, he seems like such a likeable guy and furthermore he's one hell of a dancer and has some pretty fly fashion sense.
Growing up the son of a athlete things can go either way. Your father can push you too hard and you can go in the opposite direction which is pretty much what happened to me or you can take all the free direction and surpass his wildest expectations. The latter is the case for Neymar so much so that he became the families bread winner when he was just a boy. Now he earns enough to boost the entire Brazilian economy as one of the highest paid athletes in the world.
Harry went from a boy in the stands to the starting striker for his local team - but his career as a footballer almost didn't happen. At age 9 he was deemed inexperienced by his now rivals Arsenal. For a short period of time his prospects were limited, with him even considering playing for the Republic of Ireland - I love me some Dublin but they’re not exactly the team you bet money on during the World Cup. Often described as, “gangly” and “a bit cumbersome” for a young player, Kane outworked any nay sayers and took full advantage of his tactical soccer mind and his endless determination to push himself to the top, becoming a hometown hero and a national treasure.
They might have underperformed this season by their outrageous standards, but Man City showed last night they’re still capable of handing out a pasting. The new champions were on the end of it this time, as we discuss on today’s jam-packed edition of the Preview Show, sponsored by Betway! We also give Kate some stick for a calamitous Spurs performance, look ahead to some tasty weekend fixtures and, two years on, remember England's penalty shoot-out bliss. Lovely stuff.Search ‘Football Ramble’ on social media to find us, and email us here: show@footballrambledaily.com ***Please take the time to rate and review us on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your pods. Bonita Mersiades is one of the most famous whistleblowers in world sport. She is the author of ’Whatever It Takes: The Inside Story of the FIFA Way’ - a book that details the massive corruption inside the bids for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup including Australia’s role in the shady process.Bonita joined Misha Zelinsky to talk about the intersection of sport and politics, why when it comes to cheating its easier to punish individuals than nation states, the role that money plays in the corruption of sport and why it’s just so scary being a whistleblower.

The true definition of the phrase "everything that can go wrong will go wrong", what should have been a routine flight and trip to watch Australia play Denmark in Samara at the FIFA World Cup in Russia turned into a nightmare 24 hours for Alex that all started with a misplaced passport. Delayed flights, language barriers, Embassy visits and a last minute scramble eventually saw him make the match in time for kick off...but after hearing his story you won't understand how. The best example of not knowing what the person sitting next to you in the stadium has been through to make it to the game.
Sure you've got an uber before...but have you ever got one in Russia? Mathew shares his brilliant story of being at the Russia World Cup in 2018 however it's what happened after the match between the Socceroos and Denmark that made this day so memorable.
Everybody hates FIFA. Understandable. However, football in its essence, is a game that has always been able to bring people and cultures together. Even within a team. Then, football is fun. This was partially just the case at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. And since unfortunately music-wise there is only rubbish in the tournament, @philipp-demankowski thought to contribute the soundtrack himself. The rules are: For each tournament participant there is one favorite song by an artist from the respective country. So no Italo Disco, no Dutch Techno or Highlife from Ghana. But almost everything else. Although it's not so easy to find out which song is from which country. Have fun!
