Europe, Europe, Europe. We are UP FOR THE CUP! And we really were on Saturday, riding an early threat from Norwich to eventually romp home 0-4. A great day out, a great performance and some fantastic positives to be taken from the game, including a welcome return for Danny Welbeck, a welcome and sensational appearance from the bench for Solly March, some really good goals including an overdue strike for Julio Enciso and last but by absolutely no means least, a first team debut for young Albion centre back Ruairi McConville, who came on and acquitted himself really well. Russ spoke to his dad and younger brother in the away end at the end of the match and found both family members to be delighted and extremely proud of Ruairi's debut. Also on the pod we heard from two Davids, Chris, Sam, Molly, Caroline, Will and Clive. So next up, an immediate return to East Anglia with a visit to Portman Road in the Prem. Jack and Dimi ask what went wrong as a misfiring Magpies lost a home league game for the first time since January. It was another tale of missed chances as, for the second game in a row, Newcastle squandered glorious opportunities to score when they were in control of the game. Ultimately, Newcastle had no response to a first-half sucker punch from Danny Welbeck as Brighton continued their Premier League hoodoo over the Magpies. We ask why the attack isn't clicking, and how much of a concern is there with the form of talismen Isak and Gordon? Is there any consolation in another decent overall performance, or do we need to redraw pre-season expectations? All this and plenty more brought to you by the Toon Under Podcast.

Just when you thought it was safe to listen to goalkeeping punditry... Up popped Roy Keane with some rather preposterous analysis of Ederson's antics during Man City's draw with Arsenal at the weekend. Along with claiming the Brazilian needed to "come with violence" in a bid to halt his fellow countryman in Gabriel, Keane also suggested Matz Sels should be docked a week's wages for allowing Danny Welbeck's free-kick to beat him in Sunday's other contest between Brighton and Nottingham Forest. It all makes for an action-packed Commentary Corner in this week's episode, followed by takes on the performances of Dean Henderson (MOM), Andre Onana (double save alert) and Guglielmo Vicario (handball or no handball?). In the EFL, Jacob Zetterstrom is rapidly making a name for himself following his summer switch to Derby, Harry Tyrer bagged Celebration of the Weekend right in front of Charlton fans as Blackpool left The Valley with three points and, for the second week in succession, Tommy Simkin pulled off a knee slide after claiming a late cross for Walsall.

Nottingham Forest got off to a flying start against Brighton on Sunday afternoon with Chris Wood confidently converting an early penalty, but Brighton hit back with two goals before the break, including a well-taken free-kick from Danny Welbeck. The second half saw Brighton dominate possession, but Forest found a way back into the game, thanks to a brilliant counterattack and a equaliser from new signing Ramon Sosa! The match was full of drama, and the controversy peaked when Morgan Gibbs-White was sent off with a second yellow card. The referee initially signaled that MGW got the ball, but after a change of mind, he handed out the second yellow and sent him off. Was this a fair call? Despite Brighton's dominance, Forest's ability to grind out a draw and keep their unbeaten run going shows character and resilience. Was it a perfect performance? No, but considering the circumstances—playing a man down, weathering waves of Brighton pressure, and still managing to grab a point—there's plenty for Forest fans to be optimistic about. Host Ricky Sacks is joined by returning regular panellists Russ Williams, TJ Ramini and Darren Altman as Brennan Johnson scored deep into additional time to deliver a come-from-behind Premier League victory for Tottenham against Brighton. Brighton's Pascal Gross opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Danny Welbeck had been fouled by Micky van de Ven, sending goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario the wrong way. Tottenham responded well to falling behind, creating a raft of chances, but Jason Steele made several good saves to deny the in-form Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski, while James Maddison curled narrowly wide. The momentum remained firmly in Spurs' favour when the second half got under way with Rodrigo Bentancur, Maddison and Timo Werner attempting efforts at goal as the majority of the action took place deep in Brighton territory. They continued to probe and that pressure eventually told when Sarr latched on to a lovely through ball from Kulusevski before finishing at the second attempt after his initial shot was deflected on to the post. Captain Son Heung-min was introduced after the equaliser, making his first appearance of 2024 for Spurs after returning from duty with South Korea at the Asian Cup, and the forward had a major hand in the winning goal as he laid the ball across goal for Johnson to convert.
