Suj and James review another dramatic weekend of football in the Premier League that included a brilliant encounter at St James's Park as Chelsea earned a hard earned point from two down, Liverpool just about getting over the line against 9 man Tottenham, Arsenal staying top for Christmas after victory at Everton, Leeds scoring four against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa maintained their outstanding winning run against Manchester United. A Manchester United for whom Bruno Fernandes was replaced at half time with a hamstring problem, and for owners that's a headache they weren't preparing for. Many owners and non owners will now likely chase the in-demand Hugo Ekitike who scored again, and now looks secure for minutes following a serious looking injury to Alexander Isak. He may even be worth trusting with the armband this week But there's plenty of other assets in demand too, with discussion featuring the likes of Matheus Cunha, Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen. And there's others who are not, such as Igor Thiago who hasn't registered a shot in Brentford's last two outings against Leeds and hapless Wolves. Plus, coverage of defensive options, enablers, and Suj has been on tilt in FPL, Tottenham just have James fully tilted. Host Jacob Hawley is joined by actor and comedian Ed Kear for a debut appearance on the pod. The pair dissect a frustrating but vital win against Wolves, the strange feeling of being five points clear without fully clicking, and why this season feels different to previous title charges. In this episode: The Screen Smasher: Ed talks about the relief (and rage) of the Wolves win and why dropped points against Villa and Sunderland still haunt the fanbase. The Gyökeres Debate: Is it the player or the system? Ed argues that Arsenal aren't exploiting Gyökeres' attributes, while Jacob suggests the striker is suffering from “Main Man-itis” and a lack of confidence. Captaincy Call: A bold claim that the armband might be better suited to Declan Rice or Gabriel Magalhães to drive the team through the nervy moments. Odegaard's Evolution: The boys discuss whether the captain is being too safe, if he should be moved back to an #8 role, or if he's just suffering from a lack of “fantasy” in the final third. Everton Away: Why the upcoming trip to Goodison Park feels like a season definer, and the “vibes” based argument for starting Gabriel Jesus. All the key FPL assets covered including defenders from both clubs, what impact the returns of Gabriel and Jarrad Branthwaite could have, plsu coverage on the Arsenal attackers including Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka and why the best Everton attacker over a period that has some great fixtures might be someone who isn't in their first choice eleven... It wasn't pretty, but it was effective. The boys gather to break down a "nail-biter" against Wolves that saw Arsenal escape with a win and move five points clear at the top of the table. Despite a "destruction 11" lineup that failed to destroy, the panel discusses why winning ugly—even with two own goals—is the hallmark of champions. In this episode: The Ugly Win: Johnny labels the performance "full blown shit," but admits that finding a way to win when nothing is going right is a massive signal of intent for the title race. Jesus vs. Gyökeres: Pete declares Gabriel Jesus the "antidote" who brought Brazilian flair and energy to a stagnant attack, while the panel worries that "Big Vik" is running out of time and confidence. Super Subs: A look at how Arteta's substitutions saved the day, with Trossard and Odegaard providing the quality and "game changer" energy needed to break the deadlock. Saka's Ceiling: Matt asks if Saka is reaching "Hall of Fame" status, while Johnny compares him to Eden Hazard—a player who steps up to decide the biggest moments when the chips are down. The Eze Debate: Jacob defends Eze against claims of being anonymous, arguing the new signing needs time to adjust to Arteta's complex system, much like Declan Rice did. On the agenda: Defensive Frailties: Analyzing the makeshift backline and Hincapié's adjustment to the Premier League. The Eze Debate: Is he struggling to adapt to the system, or does he just need time like Declan Rice did? Odegaard's Role: Why Arsenal need the 15-goal version of their captain back. Squad Rotation: Looking ahead to Club Brugge—will Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly finally get minutes? The Striker Situation: Gyökeres' fitness, the Jesus wildcard, and the Noni Madueke conundrum. In this episode I'm joined by Andrew Allen to relive last night's fantastic 3-1 over Bayern Munich. We chat about the way the first half played out, with early domination from the visitors and how, once again, Arsenal's set-piece prowess was an important factor in changing that trajectory. Theres discussion of Declan Rice's performance, the way the manager prepared his team specifically for the tactical challenge of Bayern, the goals we scored in the second half and how we scored them, what this win says about Arsenal in Europe now, and how, coming after the North London derby win, it's hard not to think something special is happening this season. In this Dugout edition of The Arsenal Opinion Podcast, Jacob Hawley takes the hosting seat and welcomes Jack Pitt-Brooke of The Athletic for a deep dive into the North London Derby build-up. Across a lively and insightful conversation, they explore: Tottenham through the eyes of someone who covers them, not supports them, striking the perfect balance for Arsenal listeners. How international breaks shape narratives, coaching trends, and fan expectations, including the role of throw-ins, set pieces, and Premier League punditry. Why international football may actually feel more expressive than club football right now. The shift from superstar match-winners to tactical systems in the modern Premier League. A spicy segment on Declan Rice's best role, as Jack delivers his Hottest of Takes. A measured, slightly worried look at Arsenal's injury-stricken attack heading into the Derby. And finally, Jack's score prediction, which tries (and fails) to keep Spurs fans optimistic. This one blends tactics, narrative, nostalgia, and Derby-day tension. A perfect warm-up for the weekend.
On this week's episode of That Peter Crouch Podcast, the lads sit down with Premier League and England goalkeeping legend Joe Hart for an unbelievably honest, funny and revealing chat about the wildest moments of his career. From the chaotic early days at Manchester City and their takeover era, to the surreal Aguero title-winner scenes, Joe takes us inside the dressing room, the pressure, and the mentality of surviving as a top-level No.1.He opens up on the brutal moment Pep Guardiola told him he wasn't part of the new City vision, the emotional rollercoaster of being England's first-choice keeper, and the madness of shooting sessions with Beckham, Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard and Crouchy himself. The lads also go deep on team culture, loans, being replaced, punditry life, and even why goalkeepers should be allowed to wear hats again. And of course, there are stories from the 2010 World Cup dartboard battles, arguments with Declan Rice, and Joe's new extreme-challenge podcast. On Clash of the Correspondents, James is joined by Sunderland fan Spencer Barrowman and Arsenal fan Adam Pritchard to discuss both sides brilliant start to the season, upcoming expectations and the FPL assets we should be considering from both. Will Arsenal ever concede again? They will of course but three goals conceded in 16 games this season and a run of eight in a row without being breached means talk of triple Arsenal defence is worth detailed discussion. It includes whether FPL managers should be concerned about rotation for Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber over the festive period, if David Raya should be an option and the desperation for those without Gabriel to want to get there. But Sunderland's defensive assets have performed well too. Robin Roefs is the highest scoring keeper in the game, there's discussion on Omar Alderete, Nordi Mukiele and Dan Ballard and options further up the pitch in the consistent Granit Xhaka and also Enzo Le Fee and Wilson Isidor. And should Viktor Gyokeres owners sell? Is Mikel Merino worth a short-term punt? Is Leandro Trossard going under the radar? And if Declan Rice can maintain his consistent FPL returns? In this episode we look back on the 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday. The goals came from Viktor Gyokeres and Declan Rice, and the Gunners probably should have scored more. The chat about the first 45 minutes which won the game for Arsenal, the 'non-event' second half, but which is a demonstration of the control this team is capable of, and yet another clean sheet without a shot on target. There's a wider discussion about the way this side is operating this season, questions about Rice and his midfield impact, Myles Lewis-Skelly with real competition at left-back, Leandro Trossard causing some frustration, rotation for the Champions League this week, our disciplinary record this season, and loads more.Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. The Mayor of FPL Tom Campbell guest hosts the Gameweek Review Podcast this week with James to discuss the fallout from the 9 games played in Gameweek 10, and it featured some shocking performances, none worse than James' Tottenham who limply lost to Chelsea. Newcastle can also lay claim to a shocker as they were beaten at West Ham yesterday, whilst there were important wins for Liverpool and Manchester City, but they are no closer to an Arsenal side who won to nil at Burnley. There's an FPL overview on every side that played, short-term punts to consider, the genuine merits of owning players like Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo, the appeal of forwards versus midfielders, Crystal Palace assets and lots more. Plus, Tom took on an unusual challenge in FPL this season, and though it hasn't worked as hoped, he's finding enjoying playing more than he did last season. Oh Declan, where on earth are you from? Rory is away this week, so I'm joined by Arsenal extraordinaire Finn to chew the fat and bask in the space at the top of the league. Well, in reality we talk about our nerves of being there, how far we've come, Declan Rice galore, Trossard impact, crossed fingers for Gyokeres, Set Piece FC, OPEN PLAY GOAL, and of course answer your questions. Join Andrew Greaves, Justin Connelly, Nathan Rogers, and newlywed Darren Bentley as they recover from Burnley's 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at Turf Moor. Was it a “free hit” against Europe's best, or are alarm bells ringing after another flat performance? The lads break down the match, praise Declan Rice's midfield masterclass, and debate whether Scott Parker's side are getting a bit too predictable with their tactics against the big boys. Expect an honest analysis of Burnley's strengths and weaknesses, and a fun exploration of the new trend they've dubbed “chaos ball” (just chucking everyone on and seeing what happens in the last 20 minutes) Is chaos the answer, or do Burnley need more invention? There's also a look ahead to a crucial clash with West Ham, thoughts on which players should start, and whether this mini-league at the bottom is starting to take shape. Up the Clarets!
Boyd, Josh and Alan got together to celebrate another important victory as Arsenal's extraordinary run of clean sheets continues with a 2-0 victory at Turf Moor. For the second half of the podcast we are joined by esteemed football author Alex Fynn to tell us about his book looking back at the 24-25 season, as Arsenal came oh so close to ending it with silverware... In this episode we look back at Arsenal's 2-0 win over West Ham on Saturday. We chat about excitement at seeing Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze together in midfield, but that was short lived after the captain picked up an injury. His replacement, Martin Zubimendi had a big impact, and we talk about him, Riccardo Calafiori, Declan Rice scoring against his former club, Bukayo Saka scoring on his 200th Premier League appearance after he took charge when we were awarded a penalty. West Ham offered very little, and we reflect on being top of the table, before we answer listener questions about the atmosphere inside the ground for these kinds of games, Viktor Gyokeres after he made it six games without a goal in a week that looked perfect for him to add to his tally, Odegaard's recent run of injuries, media coverage of our season so far, and lots more.Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast.
