On today's episode, I have actress and Emmy nominated director, Daina Reid! Daina and I first crossed paths a few years ago through the Sundance Film Festival with her film, "Run Rabbit Run". My Sundance 2023 coverage was limited given my own filming schedule, but Daina was somebody I had really wanted to talk to about this film and I am so glad we were finally able to make this happen. The day we recorded this the new Elizabeth Moss led Hulu show "The Veil" premiered their first two episodes which Daina directed! On the episode we talked about how Daina got her start, acting on the hit Austrailan sketch show "Full Frontal", getting back to directing, working with comedy heroes like Greg Daniels and Steve Carrell on "Space Force", getting her Emmy nomination for "The Handmaid's Tale", directing for TV vs. directing for film, working with Sarah Snook and Lily LaTorre on "Run Rabbit Run", how the film came together, and so much more! A huge Thank You to Daina Reid for taking the time to join me. It took some coordination to make this episode happen since Daina was back home in Melbourne, 17 hours ahead of me here in Los Angeles, but we had such a great time chatting! You can watch "Run Rabbit Run" on Netflix NOW, as well as the first two episodes of "The Veil" on Hulu! Make sure to follow Daina on all of the links on our website: www.onthemicpodcast.com Thank you, Daina! Enjoy the episode.

Kev Slattery and I have been friends on Instagram when I first started making knives. A leader in Austrailan bladesmithing , Kev has been a huge part of the kindness, supportive and generous nature this community exemplifies while also and giving back by teaching and creating a very popular podcast with a cult following. We had a great catch up talking about our first meeting at Bladeshow, Australian knifemaking and the unique podcast he is a co-host of called “Knife Making Down Under”. We also talked about his struggles in the last 18 months. Years of pain lead Kev to the depths and back and I truly appreciate his bravery and candor in telling a very difficult story. Kev has started a crowd funding page to help raise money for the procedure he needs to fix his back. The Australian Granville Rail Smash occurred on Tuesday, January 18, 1977, at Granville, New South Wales, a western suburb of Sydney, when a crowded commuter train derailed, running into the supports of a road bridge that collapsed onto two of the train's passenger carriages. It remains the worst rail disaster in Australian history and the greatest loss of life in a confined area post-war: 84 people died, more than 213 were injured, and 1,300 were affected. This episode of The Cornfield Meet: Transportation Disasters podcast is brought to you by Michele and Andy Sargent (aka Sargent Signals). Michele is a ham radio operator N8CSX and a self-professed disaster historian. Andy is N8ACJ and the residential railroad specialist. I will be creating one extra monthly show specifically for my patrons where I listen back to previous shows and chat about some key points that my guests bring up. There are so many great ideas and concepts that these amazing musicians bring up and I would like to share with you some of my favourites! This is great for beginner jazz violinists who want a little direction once in a while. Nicola Benedetti Nicola Benedetti is one of the most sought-after violinists of her generation. Her ability to captivate audiences with her innate musicianship and dynamic presence, coupled with her wide appeal as a high-profile advocate for classical music, has made her one of the most influential classical artists of today. She has been collaborating with jazz musician Wynton Marsalis for a number of years but has just brought out her first release playing all of his music, written especially by him for her. It includes his Violin Concerto plus his 'Fiddle Dance Suite', the album is out now on Decca Records. We had a little chat in a hotel lobby in central London about the collaborative process that created this amazing album of music. (the sound quality isn't amazing this time, I get a little nervous when recording in hotel lobbies as hotels don't always appreciate me doing so. This means I have to record on the 'down-low and just use a little portable recorder...) Gareth Ballard Check out Gareths amazing workshop via the link below. He makes lovely violins and is a talented repair and restorer of violins. He is great with set ups and sound adjustments. http://violinslondon.co.uk/ The music at the beginning ofd the episode is Nicola playing Wyntons Fiddle dance suite for violin (Jones' Jig) The outro music is my band Latchepen playing Benny Golson's 'Whisper Not' I feature Austrailan violinist Julian Ferraretto tune 'Basel' right at the end.
