The Theology of Marxism, Session 2 Many of the Christian leaders of seminaries, denominations and para-church ministries, who in the past propagated CRT and intersectionality, are still holding seats of power and influence: denying their own past actions to poison the minds of those under their influence. How are these men and women still in positions of influence? How can they pivot on their past words and actions without acknowledging their past errors? James Lindsay and Michael O'Fallon discussed these issues during their first of four panels at the Sovereign Nations Conference in Phoenix, AZ. Their suggestion? Rhetorically bomb their bailey and steal their bailey and leave the dishonest merchants of poisonous ideology without a safe haven. http://sovereignnations.com Support Sovereign Nations: paypal.me/sovnations patreon.com/sovnations Follow Sovereign Nations: sovereignnations.com/subscribe facebook.com/SovereignNations twitter.com/SovNations youtube.com/SovereignNations rumble.com/c/sovnations instagram.com/sovnations/ minds.com/sovnations?referrer=sovnations parler.com/profile/sovnations © 2022 Sovereign Nations. This is the last episode of the Christmas season, but The Twelve Songs of Christmas is a year-around affair, so the conversations will continue in January after I take a much-needed week off. This week's episode includes an interview with filmmaker Mitchell Kezin, whose documentary Jingle Bell Rocks! takes a deep dive into the world of Christmas music, talking to people who collect it and create it. It's streaming on Hulu and Amazon Prime, and we'll talk more about the movie next year, but this week we discuss its origins including the songs and ideas that set him on the path for a documentary on Christmas music. Then I talk to songwriter Jim McCormick, an old friend and successful songwriter in Nashville. Last year, he co-wrote his third number one, Gabby Barrett's "The Good Ones," and we catch up on the story behind that, as well as some of his favorite country Christmas songs. We talk about Kacey Musgraves, Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, Luke Bryan and more, thinking about the songs from the songwriter's or the industry's perspectives. Finally, I talk to young country artist Bailey James, who is still finding her audience. We talk about dealing with COVID times and her two Christmas recordings, which at the time of the interview made up a quarter of her output. How does Christmas music create marketing opportunities? Alexandra Scott returns this week to discuss two of Phoebe Bridgers' Christmas songs--"The Christmas Song" and her cover of Merle Haggard's "If We Make it Through December." We also hear some of our favorite contemporary Christmas albums, JD McPherson's Socks and Kelly Finnigan's A Joyful Sound, and The Polyphonic Spree, who put tickets on sale for their 2022 Holiday Extraganza this week. JD, Kelly, and Tim DeLaughter of the Spree have all appeared on Twelve Songs. We also heard new lofi Christmas music this week from Brooklyn's The Fundamental Sound. Last week, my story on the influence of Vince Guaraldi's soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas appeared in The New Orleans Advocate. This week, a story I wrote on Christmas on Death Row, the Death Row Records' Christmas album, appeared in The New York Times. It's based in part on an interview on the podcast with Death Row vocalist Danny Boy and label exec John "JP" Payne from earlier this year. I'm going to take a week off and return in January with a new episode. Christmas will be over the conversations continue. If you haven't already done so, please do what you have to do to get Twelve Songs in your podcast feed. You can find us at Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Stitcher, Pandora, and Spotify. Over the past several months, as the general public has become more aware of the dangers of critical race theory (CRT), proponents of CRT have pulled back from strong positions that they have maintained over the past ten years. Where they had been advocating strongly for CRT, they now have retreated to weaker, more easily defensible positions - even denying that they had ever advocated for CRT in the first place. This “being strong when unquestioned” and then wholly disowning any claims to the strong position by retreating to a weaker position is referred to as the motte & bailey rhetorical strategy or the motte & bailey fallacy. It is a type of strategic equivocation between an easily defended but unrepresentative claim and an indefensible but representative and desired claim. In this in-depth discussion, Dr. James Lindsay explains how the Motte & Bailey position has been skillfully used by politicians, politicians, pastors and corporate CEOs as they seek to shift our civilization to the far left. My guest today is Steve O’Brien a songwriter who originally moved from Connecticut to Nashville to pursue songwriting after graduating from Fairfield University in 1973. He spent several years working at the offices and studios of Owen Bradley, Chet Atkins, and Ray Stevens. And had a couple of songs enter the Billboard Top 100 Country Chart in the mid-1970s. He then built his own recording studio and formed Steve O’Brien Music BMI in 1976 to be the exclusive worldwide publisher of his compositions, which have sold over 10 million copies. Steve’s songs have been featured on numerous recent recordings, including two songs on Danni Nicholls’ “Mockingbird Lane” album, which was nominated for UK Americana Association 2017 Album Of The Year. Steve cowrote all 10 songs on JJ Lawhorn’s 2018 album, “The Huntsman” produced by Jeremy Stover which recently topped one million streams. Recent releases include Southern Halo, and Bailey James, produced and engineered at his studio and now climbing the Music Row Country independent chart. If that wasn’t enough, Steve also published a novel called The Ferrari Club in 2013. Thanks to our sponsors! New country artist Mark Bray finds the common ground with everyone and draws each fan in with the release of his debut single, For Love. This single follows the success of signing with Bar Frog Music for label representation. Previously signed artists to Bar Frog Music include Amber Hayes, Bailey James, Nick Hickman, Tony McKee, and duo Williams Honor. This single is officially released to country radio and is available for download on iTunes and all digital platforms. This upbeat song, which was composed by Rusty Tabor (Billy Ray Cyrus) and Cole Deggs (Kenny Chesney, Chris Janson, Gary Allan, Tracy Byrd, Andy Griggs), is the first release off Bray’s album, which will be released later this year. He is gearing up to visit radio stations in New York next week in support of the song. About Mark Bray: This South Florida native always had music instilled in his blood. They say it takes only one moment for someone to become hooked and know that making music is their dream, and for Mark, it was watching the 1994 television special featuring Garth Brooks. Motivated by his passion for music and his love of performing, he was influenced by many different styles of music – the pop hits of the day through his mother, 70’s singer/songwriters via his father and the rock-n-roll hits of the 80s and 90s that he first heard being sung by his siblings. With an eclectic range of musical influences ranging from Garth Brooks to Billy Joel, James Taylor and Jimmy Buffet, he describes his style of music as 90s country with a modern feel. “There’s nothing better when I’m on stage performing and seeing how the crowd is reacting. It’s a matter of me being happy with my performance, but I want that one person who has never seen me before come up and say ‘Man, you’re the guy.’ If one person does that, then I’ve done my job.” With Bray’s creative soul, compelling charm and driven work ethic that won’t let him slow down, it looks like he is on the right path to becoming a household name.
