A 19-year-old drove three hours to sit at our table and lit the room on fire—in the best way. Meet Caroline Joyous: musician, TPUSA ambassador, and relentless voice who found her calling when churches closed and her mom's salon went dark. She walks us through how a quiet teenager became a public advocate, why she ties pro-life conviction to civic duty, and how she handles daily hate without losing heart. We dig into what Turning Point USA actually does—voter registration, local races, church mobilization, and outreach that targets Gen Z where they live. Caroline shares personal memories of Charlie Kirk's encouragement and the one word he gave her that stuck: relentless. From there, we tackle the flashpoint everyone's still arguing about: Super Bowl halftime. We compare the NFL spectacle with TPUSA's alternative featuring Kid Rock and Gabby Barrett, unpack the family standards debate, and ask why institutions keep ignoring their core audience. It's a wider conversation about culture, unity, and building alternatives when the mainstream won't budge. For a change of pace, we vent about small-but-real etiquette fails—movie theater whisperers and biohazard bathrooms—before flipping the mic. Caroline asks for songwriting advice, and we get practical: write from truth, not for approval; let lived moments anchor your lyric; move people before you try to move charts. The through line is courage with kindness—show up, speak clearly, and keep going when it gets loud.If you're ready for faith, free speech, and a Gen Z perspective with backbone, press play. Then tell us your take on the halftime controversy, the best way to reach young voters, and the songwriting rule you live by. Subscribe, leave a rating, share with a friend, and drop your comments—we'll read them and keep the conversation going.______________________________________________________________________________________________SPONSORS: The Try That in a Small Town Podcast is powered by e|spaces!Redefining Coworking - Exceptional Office Space for Every BusinessBook a tour today at espaces.comFrom the Patriot Mobile studios:Don't get fooled by other cellular providers pretending to share your values or have the same coverage. Hour #1 from Episode #1151: Super Gay Super Bowl Recap & Dueling Halftime Show Reviews In this fiery segment of The Clay Edwards Show, host Clay Edwards pulls no punches on a "super gay" Super Bowl that bombed harder than the game itself—calling out the pastel rainbow logo, distracting colors, and woke vibes as a San Francisco treat shoved down America's throat. Clay recaps the snooze-fest matchup (Seahawks 29-13 over Patriots), stats, and MVP drama before diving into the real showdown: halftime battles. Bad Bunny's flop gets roasted for its disjointed maze of bushes, Spanish vibes, and global pandering—decent booties but zero familiarity or flow. On the flip side, TP USA's alternative with Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett crushed with 25M+ views, patriotic energy, and a heartfelt close, sparking talks on parallel cultures and NFL alienation. Raw rants on division, wokeness, and why the culture war matters—no sugar added.

In this unfiltered episode of The Clay Edwards Show, host Clay Edwards dives into the aftermath of a lackluster Super Bowl, where the Seattle Seahawks dominated the New England Patriots 29-13. Clay breaks down the game's lowlights, standout performances like Sam Darnold's turnover-free run, and the MVP nod to defensive star Uchenna Nwosu. The real fireworks? The dueling halftime shows: Bad Bunny's divisive, colorful spectacle drawing criticism for being "woke" and disjointed, versus Turning Point USA's patriotic alternative featuring Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett—pulling in massive views and sparking debates on cultural divides.   Clay also pays heartfelt tribute to Brad Arnold, the legendary frontman of Three Doors Down, who passed away after a battle with cancer. Sharing personal stories from his encounters with the band, Clay reflects on Brad's humility, faith, and impact as Mississippi's rock icon—second only to Elvis in sales. Tributes from peers like Shinedown's Brent Smith highlight Brad's genuine spirit and lasting legacy.   Plus, thoughts on the NFL's global push, cultural rifts in entertainment, and a call for unity amid division. Strap in for raw takes on sports, music, and the soul of America—no sugar added.

The Ohioan
A conservative halftime show? Faith, politics and why this response feels off

The Ohioan

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 8, 2026 7:07

This conversation dives into a fascinating — and uncomfortable — cultural moment: the announcement of a conservative, “all-American” halftime-style concert positioned as a response to the NFL's Super Bowl halftime show featuring Bad Bunny. The discussion was sparked by a strong article from Relevant Magazine, which examines how this event — backed by Turning Point USA and broadcast in part by Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) — isn't really a Christian alternative at all. Instead, it feels like a political counterprogramming effort, drawing a cultural line around who and what is considered “American enough.”The announced lineup raises real questions. Kid Rock is the headliner, with country artists like Lee Brice, Gabby Barrett, and Brantley Gilbert also on the bill. Whatever your feelings about the music, the bigger issue isn't genre — it's purpose. Kid Rock isn't a Christian artist, and his recent work and performances are openly political, profane, and divisive. That makes his presence on a long-standing Christian television network like TBN especially confusing. The Relevant article points out the contradiction clearly: this isn't about promoting faith-based art. It's about promoting conservative identity. The concert exists not to offer an alternative rooted in Christianity, but to respond directly — and defensively — to the choice of a Latin American artist headlining the NFL halftime show. That's where the discomfort sets in. When the reaction centers on nationality, identity, or political alignment rather than values, it starts to feel exclusionary instead of uplifting. The implication isn't subtle: some art is framed as un-American, and other art is elevated not because of its message, but because of who performs it.We also talk about how money inevitably plays a role. Controversy drives attention. Attention drives viewers. And viewers drive revenue. When faith, politics, and entertainment collide, financial incentives often shape decisions more than theology or mission. At the heart of this discussion is a simple question: is this really about Christianity — or is it about power, politics, and cultural signaling? And if the gospel gets sidelined in favor of partisan messaging, what's actually being promoted?Check out my work at https://www.cleveland.com/staff/cpugh/Support the podcast at https://linktr.ee/ChrisPughEdits#RelevantMagazine, #TurningPointUSA, #HalftimeShow, #CulturalCommentary, #FaithAndPolitics, #ChristianMedia, #KidRock, #MediaCriticism, #PopCultureTalk, #PoliticalCulture, #PodcastClip, #ReligionAndCulture, #AmericanIdentity, #ConservativeMedia, #EntertainmentNews, #FaithDiscussion, #CulturalDebate, #MediaAnalysis, #CurrentEvents, #PodcastConversation

In this episode hosted by Alex Kopytko, the conversation unpacks how Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime performance — fresh off a Grammy win — became a cultural flashpoint that exposes two diverging Americas. The irony, as Kopytko points out, is that Bad Bunny is American, yet his success still triggered backlash, including Turning Point USA's rival “All-American Halftime Show” featuring artists like Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett. The episode also takes aim at Trump's proposed “Arc de Trump,” a massive monument meant to project legacy and dominance, but so large and intrusive that critics argue it could violate zoning, historic preservation laws, and basic common sense.

You're listening to American Ground Radio with Stephen Parr and Louis R. Avallone. This is the full show for February 2, 2026. 0:30 When Donald Trump floats a bold idea, the reaction is instant—and explosive. We dive into the firestorm sparked by Trump’s comments about potentially nationalizing elections in states with broken systems, and the predictable cries of “dictator” and “authoritarian” that followed. But instead of panic, we slow things down and walk through the real constitutional, legal, and practical questions around election integrity, federal authority, and states’ rights. From Article I, Section 4, to the Equal Protection Clause, to the long-standing warnings in the Federalist Papers, this is a serious, clear-eyed discussion about voter fraud, mail-in ballots, and whether a nation that truly trusts its elections should be afraid to have this debate at all. 9:30 Plus, we cover the Top 3 Things You Need to Know. The US is once again in a partial government shutdown. Last week, Democrats in the US Senate refused to pass a series of remaining funding bills that had previously been passed by Republicans in the House. The CEO of the nonprofit Abundant Blessings in Los Angeles has been arrested for fraud.First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said Alexander Soofer took $23 million of tax payer money ment to benefit homeless people in southern California and spent it instead on a lavish lifestyle with expensive vacations, a Range Rover, and designer clothes. Texas Democrat Taylor Rehmet beat Republican Leigh Wambsganss in a special election over the weekend for a Texas State Senate Seat. 12:30 Get Prodovite Plus from Victory Nutrition International for 20% off. Go to vni.life/agr and use the promo code AGR20. 13:00 Google search isn’t just getting worse by accident—it may be by design. We unpack explosive claims that Google deliberately degraded its search results to force users to search more often, rack up more ad views, and boost profits after hitting market saturation. Drawing on DOJ lawsuit memos, internal Google power struggles, and the rise of AI tools like ChatGPT and alternatives like DuckDuckGo, the conversation digs into Big Tech arrogance, antitrust concerns, and why users are quietly abandoning traditional search. From “don’t be evil” to profit-first search manipulation, this is a blunt look at how Google may have broken its own product—and why people are finally noticing. 16:00 Did the Grammys turn into a night of hypocrisy and virtue signaling? American Mamas Teri Netterville and Kimberly Burleson break down what they saw at the Grammy Awards—from nauseating fashion and celebrity grandstanding to public shots at ICE and the on-air bashing of Nicki Minaj. We dive into Hollywood double standards, cancel culture, and why Minaj’s faith, resilience, and clapback resonated with so many viewers. The Mamas also contrast Jelly Roll’s bold Christian testimony with what they describe as darker, more provocative performances, framing the night as a snapshot of a larger cultural and spiritual battle. It’s a no-holds-barred take on the Grammys, celebrity hypocrisy, and why standing firm in faith matters more than ever. If you'd like to ask our American Mamas a question, go to our website, AmericanGroundRadio.com/mamas and click on the Ask the Mamas button. 23:00 Free speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences. We break down why the First Amendment is not a shield for trespassing, disrupting worship, or breaking the law, dismantling celebrity outrage over so-called “journalistic rights” in the wake of Grammy-era protests. From Don Lemon to Hollywood activists, there is no special exemption from criminal law just because a camera is rolling. The conversation then pivots to California’s future with an in-depth interview featuring Steve Hilton, Republican candidate for governor. Hilton, an immigrant who fled the legacy of European socialism, lays out a stark indictment of one-party Democratic rule, soaring costs, crushing regulations, and mass exodus from the Golden State. Framing California as the epicenter of far-left extremism with national consequences, Hilton makes the case for restoring common sense, economic freedom, and constitutional order—warning that this race could determine not just California’s fate, but America’s direction. 32:00 Get TrimROX from Victory Nutrition International for 20% off. Go to vni.life/agr and use the promo code AGR20. 32:30 How did the border spiral so far out of control? We break down how illegal immigration dropped to historic lows under Trump, only to explode under Biden as enforcement collapsed and asylum law was fundamentally twisted. The result wasn’t compassion, but chaos: a system flipped on its head, overwhelmed communities, and an asylum process so diluted that over 95% of claims ultimately fail. Abusing asylum doesn’t just undermine immigration law—it erodes the rights of Americans and destroys a tool meant to protect the truly persecuted. 35:30 A landmark $2 million jury verdict could reshape the national debate over so-called gender-affirming care for minors, and it's a Bright Spot. A New York jury—yes, in a deep blue state—held a doctor and psychiatrist accountable for approving and performing a double mastectomy on a 16-year-old girl who later detransitioned and says the irreversible procedure harmed her. This historic transgender medical malpractice verdict sends a clear message: doctors are not above accountability, especially when children and permanent surgeries are involved. After years of rushed evaluations, skipped safeguards, and the misuse of mental-health diagnoses to justify irreversible interventions, this ruling is a turning point—one that puts child protection, medical standards of care, and biological reality back at the center of the conversation. 40:00 Accountability suddenly got real. We react to reports that Bill and Hillary Clinton have agreed to testify before the House Oversight Committee after Congress threatened criminal contempt over their refusal to cooperate. At issue: what the Clintons know about the Epstein files—and why they initially declined to show up. 41:30 And we finish off today's show with a halftime show that will make you say, "Whoa!" Turning Point USA is taking on the Super Bowl halftime show—and doing it their own way. In response to the NFL’s choice of Bad Bunny, TPUSA announced an alternative “All-American Halftime Show” featuring Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett. Self-taught on multiple instruments, Doleac became proficient in guitar, drums, and piano and soon decided to leave the sports world behind to pursue a music career. After a self-written song posted on YouTube propelled him to viral success and helped him secure a publishing deal, Doleac made the move to Nashville and spent several years penning lyrics for notable names including Kane Brown, Lainey Wilson, Dan + Shay, Nate Smith, Gabby Barrett, Darius Rucker, Hootie & the Blowfish, and more. In 2017, his self-titled debut EP produced GOLD-certified song “Famous” and was followed by his debut album, Barstool Whiskey Wonderland, released in 2022.  Doleac's most recent album, about: TIME, was released in 2024 and takes the listener through some of his milestone moments in life with the universal message that time is love, and how we spend it is a reflection of who (or what) means the most to us. Now, Doleac has hit the ground running in 2025 with “Bye Heart,” “Dream House,” and new single “Bar Named Jesus” featuring global Country superstar Thomas Rhett. Written by Doleac along with Josh Jenkins and Chris LaCorte, the powerful track explores themes of redemption, forgiveness, and finding solace in faith while discovering a sense of belonging in a place of spiritual refuge - represented as "a bar named Jesus." Hit songwriter, Emily Weisband, joins Caroline for this episode of Get Real. When Caroline heard Emily's “Champagne & Sushi” she literally hit her knees and wept. She has never in her life felt more seen. She has lost 5 pregnancies and it is truly the saddest, most isolating, devastating experience, that you go through ALL ALONE as a woman. Yes of course your partner, family and friends are there and ache with you, but it's a heartbreaking solo journey. Emily wrote a song that captures every feeling a woman feels who goes through miscarriage. It's a true masterpiece. But that's what Emily does. To Caroline, and many others in the Nashville creative community, Emily is a musical genius. Her ability to capture raw human emotion and put it into song takes your breath away. She has written songs for Chris Young, Sheryl Crow, Anne Wilson, Jeremy Camp, Dasha, Danielle Bradbury, Lily Rose, Gabby Barrett, Camila Cabello, Hillary Scott, Noah Cyrus, Lauren Alaina, FGL, Sam Hunt, Dan & Shay, Old Dominion, Keith Urban, Darius Rucker to name a few. And with each song she writes, she lets the listener see themselves in the story, feel seen and a little less alone. Emily Landis is here with us this week on Stories Behind the Songs! It was so good to have her onstage with us. Emily is killing it right now after being in Nashville for 12 years - she has recent cuts with artists like Tiera Kennedy, Dylan Scott and Gabby Barrett. She got her first #1 hit with Gabby Barrett's “The Good Ones” written back in 2018 which ended up getting multiple CMA noms for Song and Single of the Year. You'll hear how this song started with just a title and was almost trashed - we're very glad she didn't do that! We also go over “Stuck In My Ways” - one she wrote for Lauren Watkins who is the current opener for Morgan Wallen. This song's writing process began similarly to “The Good Ones” and has an awesome story behind it. While sitting together this week, we also discussed Emily losing her first pub deal with Big Machine which motivated her to make more contacts, play more rounds and get her name around Music Row. We cover the story behind “Chasin' Tornados” - written with Jamie Moore and Lainey Wilson, and Emily answered the question - melody or lyric first when she's writing songs? And, as always, Emily performs a couple of her songs for us - “The Good Ones” and “Chasin' Tornados.” If you enjoyed this episode, make sure to share it with your friends and give us a follow.
