We wanna hear from you! Send us a message here :) Alex Miller, The 6' 6” singer/songwriter from rural Lancaster, Kentucky is a natural fan favorite whose career has moved at warp speed. In addition to touring heavily throughout 2021, this talented newcomer was honored as the Texas Roadhouse Artist of the Month (October) and performed a duet with Grand Ole Opry star Rhonda Vincent at the Lee Greenwood All-Star Salute concert (November). By the beginning of 2022, Alex had entertained at multiple State Fairs (Kentucky, Missouri, New York, Washington, Wisconsin), and opened for Hank, Jr, Josh Turner, Lee Brice, and Shenandoah. His star continued to rise, and even more bookings rolled in with Miller opening for Brooks & Dunn, Jamey Johnson, King Calaway, and Aaron Watson in 2022. Additionally, he shared the stage with Diamond Rio and Sawyer Brown and debuted at the popular Wild Rose Casinos in Iowa. By the end of 2023, Alex had appeared on bills with: Chris Janson, Chapel Hart, Drake Milligan, Noah Thompson, Dillon Carmichael, HunterGirl, Emily Ann Roberts and Tracy Byrd. Miller performed at State Fairs in Kentucky, Missouri, New York, Oklahoma, and West Virginia, plus County Fairs in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Alex also partnered with CMR Nashville, Europe's #1 Country Music Radio Station, to host a curated monthly radio show called MILLER TIME - a fun, inside look at Miller's inventive mind. Closing out a spectacular year, he received the American FFA Degree for excellence, the organization's highest accolade. Timmy McKeever, growing up in Huntingon, California McKeever started his musical journey at age nine after hearing his third grade teacher play worship songs after class. That intrigued young Timmy so much that he picked up a beginner guitar they had lying around the house and started playing around. From there it blossomed into writing music and playing shows. “My whole childhood I would play 2-3 shows during the weekend and go to school during the week. Write music after class. I just fell in love with it” he shares. McKeever got offered a development deal with Jim Cantino over at Droptine Records. McKeever just released his debut album “Devils and Angels”, and it's been getting good feedback. “Devils in Angels is an album that follows all the aspects of love from the beginning to the end and the aftermath. All the highs and lows and in betweens. It's very personal to me because the title track was the first song I ever wrote where I thought this is something really special to me.” He adds that he saved the song for the past two years because he wanted it as the title track of his debut project. The Country Music Dads dive headlong into the world of children's literature, pop culture and its intersection with country music. We discuss the viral video of Ludacris' incredible rapping of the book Llama Llama Red Pajama, discuss our favorite kids' books, which ones would make incredible country music songs and who should cut them. Show Notes: 2:22: The Kids Books We Love and Love to Hate: Dave and Donnie discuss the nighttime classics and some modern-day page turners for kids (and those reading them to kids). And what would a podcast episode be without some conflict -- so we jumped on a few we wish would just fall behind the bookshelf. 21:27: Books That Sound Like Country Songs: Before diving into who should sing our kids' book songs, the Country Music Dads explore the fairly significant crossover between country music songwriting and children's book writing -- and some of those people who did both. Namely, Shel Silverstein. 38:34: Who Should Sing These Kids' Book Country Songs? From Colter Wall to Miranda Lambert, the Country Music Dads consider the best artists to bring these books to life. 46:57: Dad Life Sound Check: This recurring segment is an opportunity for Dave and Donnie to discuss a song that is hitting home in recent days. For Dave, "Buy Me a Boat" by Chris Janson had been resonating in his house, while Lasers Lasers Birmingham's "Shorter Letter" was touching a chord for Donnie.52:22: Change My Mind: Donnie challenges Dave to think differently about the glories of shopping at Costco -- from the sea of beautiful TVs, to rows of top-shelf bulk-size booze to Costco staples, like rotisserie chicken, availability of eggs and the $1.50 hot dog and soda. In this episode, I sit down with Jordan Rowe! From navigating a music career during a pandemic to building his community of songwriters centered around faith, we dive into a little bit of it all this week. Jordan tells us about his early days playing drums in church, getting his start on the Georgia acoustic circuit, and how his path eventually led him to Nashville in 2019. That same year, he released his first EP while touring with Chris Janson. Throughout our conversation, Jordan shares the stories behind some of his most notable songs, like “Mama Ain't Jesus,” a track inspired by a phone call with Lainey Wilson, and “Good News Sold,” written as a message for anyone facing difficult times. Also discussed in this episode: how Jordan launched Music Row Ministries, a weekly bible study held on Music Row, which was created to build community among artists and songwriters in a faith-driven way. He reflects on how prayer has shaped his career, including the turning point he experienced after a three-day prayer fast that led to unexpected opportunities… This one is filled with inspiring stories as we explore what it really means to stay true to your passion. Jordan plays a couple of his own songs too and opens up about how faith, perseverance, and community have shaped both his music and life. This week Reid and Dan host Grand Ole Opry member, Chris Janson out in God's Country. Chris had just gotten back from East Tennessee where he discusses how people can help the folks affected by Hurricane Helene and what it was like. Reid and Dan have the most petty "What You Mad At" stories to date, but we're pretty sure all our dad listeners can relate. They get the play by play from Chris on his most recent elk hunt in Colorado, talk about deer season prep, and the work he is doing with Bass Pro Shop to encourage conservation across the country. They cover the meaning behind "What Ya See Is What Ya Get" and what it was like working with "The Rock" for the music video. A presidential candidate makes an "appearance" that leaves the guys in disbelief and the episode "Gravorite" is a bit rowdy. Limited in availability, this special offer guarantees fans a unique and collectible addition to their music memorabilia, making it a must-have while supplies last.Renowned as the untamed force behind Lynyrd Skynyrd, Artimus Pyle's impactful double bass drumming was instrumental in defining the band's iconic sound. His breakthrough moment came at the Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam, where his authoritative drumming, initially credited simply as "Artimus Pyle, percussion," captured widespread attention. Further establishing himself as a sought-after session drummer, Pyle connected with acts such as Charlie Daniels and the Marshall Tucker Band, eventually crossing paths with Ronnie Van Zant and Ed King at Studio One in Doraville, Georgia. This fateful encounter paved the way for the creation of Saturday Night Special, leaving an indelible mark on Ronnie. Making his live debut at Jacksonville's Sgt Pepper's Club in October 1974, Pyle assumed the role of Skynyrd's drummer following the release of Second Helping, contributing to the band's subsequent four albums, including the legendary Street Survivors. Pyle survived the band's tragic 1977 plane crash that took six lives, including Steve and Cassie Gaines, along with the band's leader, Ronnie Van Zant."This project has been a year in the making, but when the fans hear it they will understand why it took so long," says Len Snow, Get Joe Records president. "Artimus is legendary within the Southern Rock space. The music that Lynyrd Skynyrd made will always live as a part of rock history. This album honors that music and gives Artimus a way to honor his former bandmates." He would replace their original drummer (Bob Burns) following the release of the group's second album, Second Helping, and performed with the band and on Skynyrd's subsequent four albums,Nuthin' Fancy, Gimme Back My Bullets, Street Survivors, and their live album, One More for the Road. Pyle was injured but survived the band's 1977 horrific plane crash that abruptly ended the lives of six people, including band members Steve and Cassie Gaines, and most notably, frontman and musical visionary Ronnie Van Zant.In 1979, the band began to reunite, first for the 5th Annual Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam, and eventually, as the Rossington Collins Band (which included all the remaining band members and Pyle, plus Dale Krantz on lead vocals and Barry Lee Harwood on guitar). However, shortly after that, Pyle was in a car accident that broke his leg in 21 places and shattered his hopes of remaining with the group. Pyle spent the next three years healing, both physically and emotionally, before returning to the States and establishing the Artimus Pyle Band (A.P.B.) to honor the music and legacy of Ronnie Van Zant.In 1987, Pyle rejoined his former bandmates to tour and eventually record as Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991, but the experience left him flat. While he deeply loved them, he no longer felt the magic he once did with Van Zant at the helm, nor was he interested in returning to the party lifestyle for which the band was known and stepped away from the group permanently, only to return in 2006 during Lynyrd Skynyrd's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (where he played alongside Bob Burns). Now in his 70s, Pyle still continues to honor Van Zant's musical legacy, recording and touring with the Artimus Pyle Band, now comprised of Pyle (drums), Scott Raines (guitar/vocals), Jerry Lyda (guitar) Brad Durden (keyboards/vocals), and Dave Fowler (bass).https://artimuspyleband.com/https://www.amazon.com/Anthems-Honoring-Music-Lynyrd-Skynyrd/dp/B0CKH9X2WHBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/i-am-refocused-radio--2671113/support.
