The Jay Franze Show: Your backstage pass to the entertainment industry

Send us a textConnor Daly brings fresh perspective to Nashville's music scene as an Americana artist who made the leap from Virginia to Music City just eight months ago. Despite being relatively new to the area, he's already conquered some of Nashville's most revered songwriter venues, including the legendary Bluebird Cafe. The contrast between these iconic venues reveals much about Nashville's songwriting culture. As Connor explains, "The Bluebird felt very casual... like I was playing in a living room somewhere," noting how the venue's unassuming strip mall location belies its worldwide fame. Meanwhile, The Listening Room placed him under bright lights on an actual stage—both experiences offering different creative energies while sharing an audience that truly listens to the lyrics.Connor's debut album "Colors Fade" showcases his songwriting talents developed long before his Nashville move. Recorded across prestigious studios including Reba McEntire's Starstruck and the renowned Castle Studios, the album represents years of creative development. His songwriting process offers fascinating insight into how songs naturally evolve: "I like to start out with just playing chords... start humming a melody... try not to think too hard, try to leave my brain out of it and just start thinking of words and feelings that the melodies are bringing out."Nashville has introduced Connor to the collaborative art of co-writing after years of creating alone in Virginia. This adjustment highlights the relationship-like dynamics between songwriters who must find creative chemistry. His duet "Fake One Tear" with Mary Heather Hickman demonstrates how social media connections can lead to meaningful artistic collaborations in today's music industry.Ready to discover an authentic voice in Americana music? This episode we talk with the ethereal Bailey Bigger about her new album "Resurrection Fern" and how she has grown and changed since her last album was released.   Resurrection Fern explores vulnerability, nature, and growth, all delivered through Bigger's distinctive lens. Known for her enchanting melodies and impeccable lyricism, Bigger dives deep into themes of renewal, fragility, and the resilience found in the human spirit. Each track feels like a conversation with an old friend, guiding listeners through moments of self-discovery and connection. As a storyteller, she paints pictures that are as vivid as they are introspective, drawing on personal experiences and weaving them into universal truths. Her poetic approach to music, combined with a rich vocal presence, marks her as one of the most exciting new voices in today's music landscape. With this release, Bigger continues to prove why she's being hailed as a fresh voice for her generation. Her ability to channel complex emotions into beautifully simple yet profound songs sets her apart, and Resurrection Fern is a testament to her growth as an artist and storyteller.  The 24 year old singer/songwriter/instrumentalist has collected back to back nominations at the Arkansas Country Music Awards, been named Songwriter of the Year in Memphis, won Audience-Favorite music video at Indie Film Fest, and has had multiple songs featured on TrueSouth on SEC Television. Bigger has traveled the country over the last four years, enchanting audiences with her siren song and classic American songwriting. Bailey's voice has graced the stages of Red Rocks Amphitheater, The Bluebird Cafe, Georgia Theater, and many festivals including FloydFest, Americanafest, and Memphis in May. Leaning into the mystery and lore of the unknown, human emotions, and the wild nature within all of us, “Resurrection Fern,” captures the magic that Bailey found within her years of tuning in deeper with the natural cycles, and the primal knowledge within.  Check her out here:  Website: Baileybigger.com Facebook: Bailey Bigger Music Instagram: Bailey Bigger TikTok: @coyotecreature

If the recently resurfaced emails from Scott Swift's 2005 legal dispute with Taylor's former manager are to be taken seriously, then yes. Sam's narrative bridges his early days jamming with family to the thrill of sharing the stage with country stars like Craig Morgan. Philip Bowen chats with Emily about his upcoming debut album, Old Kanawha, his journey on America's Got Talent, growing his TikTok following to over 1 million followers, and the difference between the violin and the fiddle. --------------------------- Philip Bowen is a massively talented singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a sound that uplifts the soul and is inspired by his Appalachian roots. He's performed at iconic venues like The Bluebird Cafe and 3rd & Lindsley, and even graced the stage of NPR's Mountain Stage. In May he was the featured guest on Us & Them by West Virginia Public Broadcasting where they discussed how the 38-year-old learned classical violin as well as how to improvise on the fiddle, combining musical styles and genres. After completing his MBA at the University of Tampa, Bowen was encouraged by a friend to create a TikTok account to showcase his fiddle covers and original songs. The rest, as they say, is history. With his infectious positivity and musical talent, Bowen caught the attention of artists like Brandon Davis, Noah Kahan, Spinmont, Styles Haury, Jenna Paulette, Josiah & the Bonnevilles, and many others, earning him over 100 credits as a session fiddle player.  Old Kanawha is a musical journey that takes you from the peaks of happiness to the depths of despair, all while celebrating the beauty and resilience of Appalachia and West Virginia. It's not just about catchy melodies and clever lyrics, it's about the universal human experience of navigating the ups and downs of life. Bowen draws inspiration from his own life, from the carefree days of college to the unexpected responsibilities of fatherhood and a draining corporate job. He tackles some tough topics head-on, from addiction to recovery to loss. He wants his music to be a beacon of light for anyone going through a difficult time, reminding them that things can and will get better. And don't expect a one-dimensional portrayal of his home state. Bowen understands that Appalachia and West Virginia are often misunderstood and misrepresented. That's why he weaves in themes and imagery that celebrate the beauty and strength of the region, while also shining a light on the struggles and hardships faced by its people. Bowen was dead set on capturing the essence of West Virginia, so he made it a mission to recruit the most talented musicians from the area. With a WV-based producer and a team of incredible players, they hunkered down at the McCord House Studios in Bridgeport, WV. He met producer Zach McCord, through his buddy Charles Wesley Godwin, who he has worked with in the past. Godwin shows up on the title track to help with vocals. They spent about a week in the studio, days turning into nights turning into days just felt like a blur. The chemistry was on point, the music was flowing, and the vibe was just right. The songs on the record were written between 2019 and 2023, with some dating back to the Fall of 2019 when Bowen finally decided to give music one more serious attempt before giving up on the dream. Two of the songs, “Vampire in Appalachia” and “A Murder,” took the longest to write and were finished just before the last day of recording. The songs were written in various locations including West Virginia, Detroit, Nashville, and the Oregon Coast.

Pam Ross has created a style of music all her own.  She blends her influences of rock, americana, and country into something fans are calling Pam Music.  Pam was born in Pittsburgh, PA but lived most of her life in Houston, TX where she launched her music career.  She first exposed the world to her original songs through open mic venues. After quickly gaining a reputation as an energetic performer and soulful songwriter, Pam began touring throughout Texas. Pam later moved to Nashville and became recognized as one of the up-and-coming songwriters to watch.  She performed numerous times at the renowned Blue Bird Cafe and other local clubs in the Nashville area. Roger Sovine, then A&R president of BMI, took an interest in her career and began booking her in BMI showcases.  Her lucky break came when she met with country songwriting legend and senior director of A&R at Mercury Records, Gary Harrison.  He was impressed with Pam's songwriting and vocal power and offered her a record deal.  Unfortunately, the music business is a fickle world and sadly the offer never came to fruition. Pam and her wife, Elissa, moved to Fuquay Varina, NC in June of 2020 during the pandemic.  Pam found herself feeling lost and realized she needed to get back to playing music. She began writing songs again and playing out at open mics in 2021.  In June 2022, she gathered up some incredible musicians and began recording ten songs at Goodluck Studio in Chapel Hill, NC.  The album is called “When Therapy Fails” and her first single, “Fire In The Hole,” was released November 28. The music video followed on Jan 6 and the song received rave reviews from radio and top playlisters.  The music video, produced by Rob Underhill and Evelyn Putnam, received Official Selection in the Europe Music Awards and has also been nominated for Best Music Video in the Carolina Film Festival 2023 and the Franklin Flix Indie Film Festival 2023.  Her latest single and video is “No One Around.” Music Webpage: https://pamrossmusic.com/home   Facebook Music Page: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100088211178619   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pamrossmusic/   Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv9OG2gTYsNToZk5mqfeF9w Check out our sponsor DUBBY energy at dubby.gg and use promo code SCREAMINGCHUYSH for 10% off on all products!** For more Episodes and Platforms https://linktr.ee/ScreamingChuyShow. *For cool merch https://my-store-10115944.creator-spring.com/?*

He wasimpressed with Pam's songwriting and vocal power and offered her a record deal. While Gary may have been impressed with Pam's music, her americana style didn't really fit into country music. She was told they could change her musicto make it fit into the country genre of the day. Pam chose to decline the offer. She later said, “It would have been living a lie. I have a lot ofrespect for country music and changing who I am just to become famous wasn't the right thing to do. You have to be true to yourself and your music. Walkingaway was heartbreaking but ultimately the right thing to do at the time. Ironically, as time has passed and country music has changed, a lot of my songsnow fit into the genre and I would definitely accept a record deal in Nashville.” Pam moved to Fuquay Varina, NC in June of 2020 during the pandemic. In June 2022, she gathered up some incredible musicians and began recording ten songsat Goodluck Studio in Chapel Hill. Her album, When Therapy Fails, was released in November of 2022. Her fourth single, Falling Off the Merry Go Round, debuted at #18 on the UK iTunes / iChart and hit # 15 on the Mainstream Indie Chart. Beloware just a few of the reviews Pam has been receiving about her music.Iggy Magazine called her “…gifted…one of the most impressive artists we know.” Sarah Wagner of Earmilk wrote, “Ross' distinctive vocal style has often been compared to the likes of Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Etta James, giving hersongs an emotional depth and raw vulnerability that resonates with listeners.”"Music has the power to transcend time, resonate with our emotions, and spark conversations on pressing social issues. Few artists have the ability towield that power in a profound and impactful manner like Pam Ross.” Skope Magazine.www.pamrossmusic.com

(OUTWEIGH) Singer/Song-writer Maura Streppa is Amy's guest today! Maura battled with an eating disorder for most of her life, but didn't realize it until she was a freshman in college. She started recovery over COVID and really used songwriting to help get through it. She wrote a song called “Skinnier” that comes out December 2nd and hopes it will help others feel less alone + encourage them to NOT think that life will be better if/when they are skinnier!! About Maura: There is a place where country meets soul meets pop. That sweet spot exists in the heart of singer/songwriter, Maura Streppa. Heavily influenced by Bob Dylan, John Prine, Amy Winehouse, Kacey Musgraves, and more, Maura uniquely and effortlessly creates a home for lovers of the old and the new alike. Hailing from the suburbs of Chicago, Maura discovered her love for music at a young age. After a move from the city to the south lands of North Carolina, Maura found that her mother's piano keys helped her express her deepest emotions. It was from that moment on that she decided she wanted to share these cathartic songs with the world. Maura continued writing, singing, and sharing until the age of 18, when she was asked to play the Carolina Country Music Festival and to open for country music star, Jimmie Allen. It was in that opportunity that Maura became more sure than ever that singing country music for thousands of people was what she wanted to do with her life. She promptly packed her bags and made her way to Music City. Since making the big move to Nashville, Maura has been performing almost every single night, sharing her soulful songs with those who cross her path. She recently won Tennessee Songwriter's Week and made her debut at The Bluebird Cafe with her song, “Singer and The Song”. The eclectic artist has a strong conviction to create music with authenticity, love, and purpose and works hard to carry out that calling every day. Instagram: @maurastreppamusic  To contact Amy about Outweigh: hello@outweighpodcast.com Best places to find more about Amy: RadioAmy.com + @RadioAmySee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
