Catching Z's used to be my favorite thing to do, until I learned about all the weird stuff that happens in our sleep. You think it's simple and you're just getting some shut-eye. Listen & learn about a terrifying occurrence that can happen in your sleep. During research for this episode, I fell sorta deep into a rabbit hole and found out a bunch of other weird, interesting tidbits about sleep. Since that happened guess what?! For this episode I am your co-host, along with Nick Zolfo, the host of the podcast “Catching ZZ's: A Millennial's Guide to Mindfulness.” Nick and I were introduced by a mutual colleague, and we realized that we have a very similar purpose behind our podcasts – which is to highlight the wisdom of others' spiritual practices and share it with as many people as possible. Since we are so aligned, we decided to make this a co-interview, just taking turns interviewing each other about meditation practices, podcasts, and how we apply our practice to daily life and sharing our passion with others. Nick Zolfo is a podcast host, meditation teacher, and community builder. He brings experience with 4.5 years of his own meditation practice, coursework in mindfulness, including SIYLI 2 day training, and 3 years of hosting the Catching Z's podcast. He seeks to help others explore their minds and develop their own practice. Catching Z's does this by sharing stories of people with diverse backgrounds about how they've developed a spiritual practice and how everyone has their own unique journey to discover theirs.

In this episode, Melissa and Leah welcome their first ever guest to the Momversation, Elizabeth Bine: a sleep consultant from Peachtree City, Georgia. Sleep, and, more accurately, lack of sleep, is a huge challenge for many parents, though few may know about the accessibility of a sleep consultant. Elizabeth not only shares a bit about what a sleep consultant is and her own journey in the profession, but also provides insight about the importance of quality sleep and the benefits of using a consultant when teaching our babies how to sleep. Elizabeth, and others in her field, are available to families across the country. For more information, please visit her website, or browse her Instagram and Facebook pages. The Book Blurb in this episode is a passage from a Jerry Spinelli novel, Stargirl. For more information about Jerry Spinelli's books, click here.A few other noteworthy mentions include Elizabeth's Love and Logic inspired Instagram post, the Sleep Sense program, founded by Dana Obleman, and two books: Polly Moore's book The Natural Baby Sleep Solution, which Melissa uses as a reference for the discussion on 90 minute sleep cycles, and Tracy Hogg's Secrets of the Baby Whisperer, referenced by Elizabeth. Elizabeth also mentions Priscilla Dunstan, whose theory about babies' vocal patterns suggests that babies can communicate specific needs with different crying sounds.
While moving day has been moved, The Blindnamic Duo are making this podcast fast an furious! Due to complications surrounding her midnight shifts, Jan and Marc decided to push back the podisode about moving in together. As a result, the two discuss what they've been up to instead. From watching the most amazing film with a blind protagonist ever (spoiler: it's Blind Fury) to getting fat for religious reasons, there's still a lot to cover in this short podisode. Along the way, the married couple also discuss counting severed body parts, whether or not Brooklyn's a suburb and how Marc chooses his sunglasses. (There may be a digression or two in there for good measure as well.) Until next time, don't be a dingleberry: Make your earholes happy by subscribing for free and listening to our latest podisodes as soon as they're released. You'll be glad you did! (Episode Art: An image depicts a stick figure of Jan sleeping on a bed with several Z's representing her snoring on the left. A stick figure of Marc on the right holds a "Z" and says, "got one!" The words "Catching Z's" are written in big letters above the scene. The sketch was drawn by Marc Rocheleau, who is completely blind.)
On this month's Catching up with Catching Z's, I talk about some recent conversations that I've been having with individuals about starting a meditation practice and the benefits it can have on your life. It's important to keep in mind why this practice is worth putting forth the effort and I dive into that on this episode!

I talk through the birth of my son and the wonderful things that has brought to my life as well as the departure of Zach from this podcast and the feelings that brought to me. I also review some of the guests that I had on the show this year and reflect on what an amazing year of guests it has been!! In 2019, I will be doing some different segments talking to everyday meditators about their practice, so please reach out to me if you're starting a practice, thinking about starting one, or have been doing it for awhile now! Today’s podcast episode is a new kind of episode. It’s actually a podcast episode that I’m republishing from my friends' podcast - Catching Z’s: The Millennials Guide to Mindfulness. The guest in this episode is me, Tanur Badgley. In my first ever guest appearance on a podcast my friend, mentor, and podcasting accountability partner Nick Zolfo and I really broke down my 10-day Vipassana meditation course the day after I completed my course in Thailand. For those of you that don’t know, Vipassana is a technique developed by Gotama the Buddha 2500 years ago. The word Vipassana means seeing things as they really are. Vipassana is about removing the root of your impurities through self observation and mastery of the mind with the goal of happiness and liberation from suffering. I decided to ask for permission to publish our episode directly into People of Purpose. Not because of this feat that I genuinely am proud to have accomplished, but because I hope it nudges you to do a course yourself. I think one mark of my success after leaving the course is if I can do my part to get the people I love and respect and wish the best to do a ten day course of their own! ------------Reccommended Resources:-------------- My Teacher S.N.
