Call it “brain fog,” call it “attention economy burnout,” call it the dregs of late capitalism: however you label it, Tamara Lindeman has been feeling it. With “Neon Signs,” our favorite song from her 2025 album as The Weather Station, Humanhood—out now on Fat Possum Records—she gives names and shapes to the sense of dread so many of us feel permeating our daily existence.  “I've gotten used to feeling like I'm crazy—or just lazy,” she sings in her signature flinty voice at the start of the song, articulating the ennui of being stuck in a cosmic rut. Unending conflict, climate anxiety, and the always-on buzz of the internet—all of it has rendered so many of us inert. But the pulsing piano, swirling flutes and strings, and insistent beat do powerful work here, adding forward motion to Lindeman's existential angst. A protest song of a stripe, “Neon Signs” feels like a spiritual update of The Who's “We Don't Get Fooled Again”—a cautionary tale wrapped up in defiance. Untangling the politics of want and need, of trust and fear, of lust and genuine connection, Lindeman wanders a glittering landscape in which every flashing light demands notice and every notification could single doom. Is cutting through all that noise possible? “Neon Signs” doesn't make it clear, but Lindeman tips her hand in favor of the possibility of human flourishing in spite of it all—if only we can get honest with ourselves: “I swear to god I saw real love once/But nothing needs you so badly as a lie, so lonely, drifting, unmoored from real life/if nobody believes it all it can do is die.” This week on Transmissions, she joins host Jason Woodbury to discuss Humanhood—the album, sure, but also the concept of what makes us human. We're so pleased to share this talk with you.

We as humans all have battles and even though our battles might be a bit different than Craig's, all of us can learn from him and others and apply those lessons into our own lives.  This hopefully helps us to live our best lives! So many impactful lessons here.  One for sure, is the fact that we all need to understand that ALL OF US have battles and we need to have our eyes, ears & hearts a bit more open to understand others, help others and also try to have these lessons help ourselves. Remember, I am in no way a professional counselor.  I'm simply an educator / coach who is looking to make a difference with others. That's what my show is all about & always will be.   Big time Thank You to Craig for reaching out and taking this leap of faith to be on my show and for reaching out for help. And don't we all influence someone, somewhere, somehow every day? YES, WE DO! That means that ALL of us are leaders. We are influencers of people. So the next thing we need to think about is how are we influencing people every day. Are we creating good ripples, bad ripples, or some of both? This is why I have become an author, to make more people aware of our responsibility as leaders, and as influencers of people. My short story is that I was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH. I have been married to my amazing wife for a lot of years and we're both blessed to have three wonderful children (one son and two daughters). Professionally I worked in the corporate world for thirty years working for a couple of big corporations and one family-owned business. The experiences were fantastic. I have experience in sales, sales management, operations, and general management. I have had P&L responsibility, I ran multiple offices spread out over five states and successfully helped develop a start-up division for my last employer. After leaving the corporate world in 2012, I have been in the business consulting/ training space. It has been such a pleasure working with clients across the country helping them to develop their people personally and professionally. I have a passion for leadership and people development. My passion has led me to develop a leadership model called Responsible Leadership (one of my upcoming books). We are using the Responsible Leadership Model to help companies improve their culture, develop their people, improve cooperation and collaboration, and achieve higher levels of financial success. It is such a blessing to be helping people wherever I can. Support the show

I never had the pleasure of working with my guest today, but she worked for Club Med from 1988 to 2000. Her first season was in Club Med Eleuthera in 1988 as a Mini Club G.O. Everyone, please help me welcome one amazing Aussie, Julie Ford!! When she was a young twenty-something first-grade teacher, Julie went to Club Med Moorea by herself as a G.M. at the suggestion of her mother. Even after that vacation Julie still was not sure she would apply one day to become a G.O., but she eventually did and had her interview in the Club Med New York offices with John Shelly. Julie worked in such villages as St. Lucia (89), Ixtapa (91), Noumea (92), Lindeman Island (93), Cherating (94), and Copper Mountain (95). She worked with Chiefs of Village such as Pierre Ruffaldi, Andrea Livingston, Patrice Prual, Carlos Castro, and Jean-Pierre Franquin. Julie was at the opening of Club Med Lindeman Island with Carlos Castro in 1993. I ask Julie to go into detail about the opening and she was kind enough to oblige me. Julie shares a story about a “borrowed” VCR and a future Chief of Village that you really must hear! She remembers watching the live telecast of the Olympics announcement on September 24, 1993, in the theatre of Lindeman and the place going nuts when Australia won the bid. Julie told herself then that when the Olympics came in 2000, she would be a part of it somehow. Did she? You will have to listen to find out!! We cover a lot in this episode so get comfortable! At the end of the interview, Julie tells us what she is doing now, the things she misses most about Club Med, and if she would do anything differently. Please enjoy this episode with Julia Ford!!  **My First Season podcast has always been ad-free and free to listen to and is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Podchaser, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes. Building better mental health is something we could all stand to work on. The good news? You're definitely not alone. This week we're unpacking mental health with podcasts that uplift, investigate and validate. We all know the grief that comes from losing someone you love, but have you ever experienced climate grief? It's the feeling of hopelessness as the climate crisis continues to worsen. But for one Canadian musician, out of those feelings of fear, sadness and angst came artistic inspiration. We'll hear the conversation with folk band The Weather Station in a clip from Reseed. Plus, treatment for mental health has experienced a lot of innovation in the last century. That evolution continues as the Toronto facility "Remedy" researches the use of MDMA to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). We'll share why the early results have researchers and patients so excited. The themes in this episode may be triggering for some listeners. If you or someone you know is in crisis, help is available. In Canada, you can call the Suicide Prevention Service at 1-833-456-4566. In the US, you can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. Or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741-741. Featuring: Terrible, Thanks for Asking: Grief comes with so much judgment. Everybody is sure that there's a right way to do it, and only for a certain length of time. If our grief doesn't neatly fit into a category, we worry that it's illegitimate. Erin knows this judgment very well. She's a widow … or is she? Reseed: Music can help us make sense of, and deeply feel, our climate grief. Tamara Lindeman's acclaimed album Ignorance about climate grief struck a chord with citizens and critics. Performing as The Weather Station, Lindeman's 2021 poetic, thoughtful, and highly danceable album was named album of the year by The New Yorker and Uncut. Tamara joins Alice Irene Whittaker, the host of Reseed, for a conversation that starts with climate grief before spanning to art, selfhood, rootlessness, connection, and the heartbreaking beauty of birds. WTF Marc Maron: Zazie Beetz and Marc were in three things together - Joker, the Netflix series Easy, and the new animated film The Bad Guys - but they're only now meeting each other for real. That makes for a good opportunity to interrogate their respective anxiety issues and compare their coping strategies. Zazie and Marc also talk about her German heritage, why she's not an LA person, and how she sees her work on Atlanta as being part of an overall reflection of Donald Glover's real life story. Depresh Mode: We're seeing the effects of prolonged work-from-home jobs and from employers who are doing little or nothing to address burnout. We're seeing a blurring of lines between job and life, an old work system we're never going back to, and people who just can't take it anymore. They're quitting their jobs, often with no new job to go to, because they are flat out done. Depresh Mode host John Moe speaks with Jennifer Moss, a burnout expert who fought burnout herself when writing her book, The Burnout Epidemic: The Rise of Chronic Stress and How We Can Fix It. Mental Health Comedy Podcast: Comedian Dave Holmes talks honestly about being diagnosed and learning to deal with ADHD. As a kid growing up in the 70's and 80's, he'd get messages from teachers about not living up to his potential. The overall solution was "don't be like that." And the road from that place to where he is now, has many steps. Now it's prioritizing self care, nutrition, exercise, sleep etc. And that there are days when it is difficult to focus, and on those days there are other creative ways to deal. And not every day is a great day. Sickboy: Dr. Anne Wagner is a clinical psychologist and treatment development researcher in Toronto, Canada.
