With the resurgence marked by last year's "Childhood Eyes" EP and a massive U.S. tour, Yellowcard has proven they are far from fading into the annals of pop-punk history. Their latest collaboration, "A Hopeful Sign," with neoclassical/post-rock ambient artist Hammock, further cements their innovative spirit. As they prepare for an even bigger tour this summer with Third Eye Blind, Yellowcard's momentum is undeniable. We had the chance to sit down with frontman Ryan Key to discuss their latest projects and the band's enduring legacy. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wewriteaboutmusic/support

Ryan Key is best known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the rock band Yellowcard. He is the also the owner/operator of a recording studio in Jacksonville, Florida, called The Lone Tree Recordings. Wearing many hats, doing many projects (like his excellent Star Wars podcast- Thank The Maker,) he is no stranger to diversifying his interests and finding new ways to express himself. In this episode, we talk about Yellowcard's latest release- a collaboration album with the group Hammock called "A Hopeful Sign," and we discuss the simple pleasures of enjoying instrumental music as we get older. www.caughtonthemike.com

Yellowcard's Ryan Key joins The Gunz Show in a throwback interview of talking all things Ocean Avenue and more! The post Yellowcard (Ryan Key) appeared first on idobi Network.
This past summer, Yellowcard reunited and performed dozens of shows at large venues across the country. They also released their first new music since 2016. The EP Childhood Eyes returns to the sound that made them popular, but the songwriting reflects their maturity and sense of nostalgia. It includes collaborations with Dashboard Confessional and Pierce The Veil, as well as the lead single "Childhood Eyes." The reunion coincides with the recent pop punk renaissance as younger bands reach back for those Y2K power chords and hooks. Will there be any more new music? Although there are no plans for a new album, a statement on the band's Instagram says, "The future is bright. We clearly have so much more to do." Watch frontman Ryan Key talk to Jordan Edwards and Demi Ramos about the reunion, making the EP, and the story behind "Ocean Avenue."

On today's episode, I'm extremely excited to be speaking with Mr. Ted Bond, singer of melodic punk rock band Craig's Brother. I've been a fan of Craig's Brother for over 20 years now. I discovered them on the Tooth & Nail compilation "Songs from The Penalty Box". Craig's Brother has a really fascinating career arc, and we talk all about it. Ted opens up about what it's like to be ostracized by not only your label, but also by members of the Christian music scene in general. We talk about the history of the band, and we discuss what it was like to make a new full length at this stage of their career as a band. I learned a ton in this talk. I had so many things I wanted ask him and he was gracious in giving me really thoughtful answers. We talk about Ryan Key from Yellowcard joining the band and the cross-connection between the two bands. We talk about Lost at Sea. We talk about getting records shelved and sent back from stores because a song discusses masturbation. We talk about it all. I hope you find this conversation as illuminating as I did. Craig's Brother is an American punk rock band. They have released three full-length recordings internationally, two on Tooth & Nail Records and one self-released. Craig's Brother are currently on People of Punk Rock Records and they have a new full length being released on November 11th, 2022. Craig's Brother on Bandcamp Craig's Brother Website

On today's episode, I'm extremely excited to be speaking with Warren Cooke. Original bassist of the band Yellowcard. One of the founding members, as well. He's currently in the band Flag on Fire from Jacksonville Florida. I met Warren in 2001 when my band Gametime played with Yellowcard for the first time. We became close friends and played countless shows with them around that time period. One for the Kids is the first official full length from Yellowcard, and it's celebrating it's 20th anniversary this year. Warren and I talk about the 20 year re-release of One for the Kids. It's been remixed and remastered and its up for presale RIGHT NOW at lobsterrecords.com. There are multiple limited vinyl variants, as well as bundles and other merchandise. We talk about the process of making it all come to fruition. I had so much fun reconnecting with Warren, it had been almost 20 years since I last spoke with him. I really appreciate his honesty and transparency with me in this conversation. I think fans of One for the Kids and the band are going to really enjoy this conversation. www.lobsterrecords.com One for the Kids is the third studio album by American rock band Yellowcard. It was released on April 3, 2001 on Lobster Records and is the first Yellowcard album to include Ryan Key as lead singer and guitarist. It was produced, engineered and mixed by Darian Rundall at Stall No. 2 in Redondo Beach, California. "Drifting" and "Rock Star Land" both originally appeared on the band's previous EP, Still Standing EP. On June 15, 2000, Yellowcard signed to Lobster Records, and were aiming to release their next album in early 2001. The band moved from their native Florida to Thousand Oaks, California to record the album. Sessions where held at Stall No. 2 in Redondo Beach, California, with producer and engineer Darian Rundall. He mixed the recordings, before the album was mastered by Mark Chalecki at Capitol Records in Hollywood, California.
When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes is the seventh studio album released by American rock band Yellowcard on March 22, 2011 under Hopeless Records. The album has received positive reviews. The album's title comes from a text message sent to a girl by lead singer Ryan Key. Later in the year, the band released an acoustic version of the album. In July 2010, rumours surfaced that Yellowcard, who had been on a two-year hiatus, would be reforming. In August, Yellowcard announced they would be returning from their hiatus and would be working on a new album for independent label Hopeless Records. Following the band's reformation, they immediately began working on their new album. Ryan Key, who had previously been in a small project with Reeve Oliver vocalist/guitarist Sean O'Donnell (who was chosen as Pete Mosely's replacement after he declined to return) called "Big If", confirmed that some of Big If's songs were going to be reworked by Yellowcard and included on the new album. Sessions for When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes were held at Sunset Sound and The Casita, both in Hollywood, California, in October and November 2010, with producer Neal Avron. He handled recording with engineer and Pro Tools operator Erich Talaba; they were assisted by Morgan Strattton at Sunset. Avron mixed the recordings at Paramount Recording Studios in Holly, with assistance from Nicolas Fournier. Ted Jensen mastered the album at Sterling Sound. While in the studio, they released a number of video updates. Some of the studio updates were shown originally on Rock Sound magazine's website. The first installment of Ryan Key’s spotlight series: The Womp Womp Sessions, a series that explores the multi-faceted umbrella genre of Electronic Dance Music (EDM). Colton takes the backseat and puts the host of "CHHC: Christian Hip-Hip Culture" podcast, Adam Stansell, in the shotgun seat. | Focusing in on the crossroads of Jazz and EDM, artists Grammatik, Pretty Lights, and Griz are dived into as examples of this sonic marriage. Boogie T, Louis the Child, San Holo, and Deadmau5 are used to exemplify how accessible technology has become and allowed more insights into the genre and proved that EDM artists don’t just sit behind a laptop at live shows. Marshmello and Slushii are dived into for exploring the heavier sonics but dream like feel that certain EDM artists have. Step, Bro-Step, and Trap are examined and how they contributed to the mainstream-like rise of Dubstep from Herobust and Diplo’s many collabs. All of these genre branches come together to form the Womp Womp, and or the sound one would use to describe the driving, heavy, repeated bass that EDM is famous for. | Follow Wrapped on Instagram: @Wrapped Podcast & Twitter: @PodcastWrapped | Check out our website wrappedpodcast.captivate.fm | Follow Adam @adam_stansell and his podcast @chhc_podcast | Purchase merchandise at https://www.redbubble.com/people/autsalazar/shop?ref=artist_title_name (https://www.redbubble.com/people/autsalazar/shop?ref=artist_title_name) | Music by Eurobeats | Artwork by Autumn Salazar (@aut_salazar)
We had the honor of interviewing William Ryan Key of Yellowcard on his solo tour at the Roxy! Sometimes a step sideways is the best progression forward. After the breakup of Yellowcard in Spring 2017, vocalist/guitarist William Ryan Key did just that with his solo debut EP, THIRTEEN which will be released on May 25, 2018 via The Lone Tree Recordings. Both a sonic redirection and a rediscovering of his muse, THIRTEEN finds Ryan in a brand new headspace with a sound that moves away from the pop punk genre that Yellowcard helped create and into new uncharted territory that’s equally introspective but not as anchored in convention.“It took a long time to find my own focus and direction after 17 years in a band,” Ryan explains. “However, once I found it, the music felt like coming home. There was new freedom and creativity that I channeled into each of the songs.”Acoustic and emotionally raw with a spacious and pristine hi-fi sound, Thirteen kicks off with the haunting “Old Friends”, with its un-nostalgic look at past mistakes (“I’m sitting on a mountain of guilt that I finally started chipping away”) and realizing that he’s ready to move forward. The epic soar of “Form and Figure” combines the tender introspection of Elliott Smith with the atmospherics of Hammock as filtered through the knowing eyes of Ryan Key. The first single “Vultures” retains a hint of his past sound in Yellowcard but decidedly switches up the chorus in a way that he could never accomplished in the pop punk paradigm. “‘Vultures’ was the first song written and recorded for ‘Thirteen’,” he explains. “I feel like it is the right song to help fans across the bridge from old to new, as well as introduce people who are new to my music to the sound.”Coproduced with Arun Bali of Saves the Day (who also mixed the EP) at his own studio TheLone Tree Recordings, THIRTEEN is a pivotal mark in Ryan’s life. “2013 was a really difficult year for both me and the people I love,” he says. “When writing, I was looking back on the journey from then until now.” Another noticeable change was re-adding “William” back into his full name. Followers on Twitter are already accustomed to it (his handle is @williamryankey), but for many who know him simply as “Ryan Key,” an additional two syllables will need to be added when referring to him and his solo career. “William is my first name that I carry from my maternal grandfather,” he explains fondly. “He was always a huge inspiration to me so it’s an honor to use his name.”With a new direction in life and a whole new sort of independence as a solo artist, Ryan is feeling the freedom of expanding his personal songbook. Still appreciative of his fans now as he was with Yellowcard, Ryan is always thankful to his fans who have supported him through his musical journey. As much as this EP is a new beginning for him, he sees it also as the beginning of a new relationship with his fans. He concludes, “I can only hope that this release is the beginning of a new chapter both for myself, and for the fans that have supported me for so very long.”https://www.williamryankey.com/“Visualize all the good sh*t you want to do.”— William Ryan Key HTTPS://WWW.BRINGINITBACKWARDS.COM/HELLO@BRINGINITBACKWARDS.COMCREDITS:THEME SONG: SCOTT RUSSO & DESIGN: OSCAR RODRIGUEZ & PHOTO: RYAN MENDEZ

My wife and I have been married for 13 years, and I am very thankful for her support in this journey we have embarked on. We have a 16 year old son, and a 9 year old daughter. Our family has lived in Northwest Arkansas since 2004. I am the proud son of a Vietnam combat veteran! Veterans hold a very special place in my heart. My mission is to raise funds to assist veterans, home-bound patients, and those in financial need to obtain their recommendation for a medical marijuana card, and to offer assistance to these patients in obtaining medicine to detox from man-made pharmaceuticals to natural medicine. I also offer consultation services to assist patients with strain selection, and teaching skills to get the most out of their medicine. I, myself, struggle with debilitating conditions, and personally know how hard breaking the addiction can and will be. My goal is to #BreakTheStigma that surrounds those wanting to use natural medicine and holistic therapies over pharmaceuticals, by putting a face with the conditions that afflict those being criticized, and letting their stories be heard.” Sponsored in part by: https://www.litsmokingsupplies.com/ https://www.facebook.com/nwanaturallivingllc/ https://www.facebook.com/SparkieArkie420/ https://purelynaturalonline.com/ https://www.birthsongbotanicals.com/ https://familypetsvetcare.com/ --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thewendyloveedgeshow/support
