It is always great to get the Senator in the studio and talk Colorado Elk hunting. We are joined via phone bu Team Trilogy Outdoors pro staffer, Rick Austin. Rick and Sen. Goldfinch just got back from another trip out to the west to chase Elk. Rick was fortunate enough to draw a black powder tag for Elk and was excited to put the stalk on what would hopefully be his first bull. The hunt was exciting and it's always great when the Senator gets to describe his hunts with his hunting partner. We wish Rick's wife, Heidi best of luck in just a few weeks at her first attempt at a bull Elk with rifle. We are also joined this week by Capt. Jason Burton of MIFC. Known as the Flounder Pounder, Jason was busy this week with helping coordinate some assistance and relief efforts for our friends in the WNC area that was ravaged by Hurricane Helene. JAson made the trip up this week wijth one of the trucks that was loaded down with essentials. He shares a lot of things that the media is not gonna share and he shares the reaction and opinions of the many locals that he was fortunate enough to spend time with on his trip. Please understand that this is not going away anytime soon. These people are going to need help over the coming weeks and months. We are trying to use our platform to get the information and awareness out in every way possible. The incredible outpouring that you have shown so far is mind blowing and we hope to keep up the pace and to continue doing for others, No donation is too small and any time you can volunteer to help organize or sort through the donated items is greatly appreciated. In this episode, Clyde recounts his recent elk hunting adventure in Colorado, sharing stories of challenges faced during their journey, encounters with wildlife, and the lessons learned from their experiences. They discuss the importance of camaraderie in the face of adversity and reflect on the thrill of the hunt, despite not achieving their ultimate goal of bringing home an elk. The conversation highlights the beauty of nature, the unpredictability of hunting, and the value of learning from each outing. The journey to Colorado was filled with unexpected challenges. Seeing wildlife, like elk and bears, added excitement to the trip. Weather conditions significantly impacted their hunting experience. Camaraderie made the tough moments enjoyable. Preparation is key, especially regarding gear and fitness. Public land hunting requires adaptability and aggression. Learning from each hunting experience is crucial for improvement. The presence of more hunters this year affected their success. Hunting is about the experience, not just the kill. Building memories with friends is the ultimate reward.

On this episode of Wild & Uncut, recorded on-site in southern Colorado, Kristy Titus sits down to talk with her husband Yogi, her dad Lewis, and Eagle Outfitters guides Wes Yoder and Jacob Elich. There's nothing better than chasing elk in September, with a bow in your hand! The team had an epic week in Colorado and got into some killer rutting action; Lewis Titus was able to take his best bull ever, with a bow! Lots of awesome “campfire stories” to be had as the team reflects on this week, but also memories of Septembers past. God willing, we'll get to chase those bugles again, somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. We hope you enjoy this episode, as much as we appreciate your support! For this episode, Chris brings in Cliff Gray to talk about Cliff's knowledge of elk movement, behavior, hunting, and outfitting in a variety of northwest Colorado Elk/Deer Game Management Units, and get his thoughts on the upcoming wolf reintroduction, and "what could be" with the reintroduction effort, and if sportsmen got their $#!+ together! Cliff was the owner/operator of Flat-tops Wilderness Guides for nearly 10 years (amongst other guiding/outfitting activities), and now has a very informative YouTube channel called "Pursuit with Cliff" (along with his Instagram page under Cliff Gray) where he shares a TON of knowledge from his direct experience for those just getting started in the hunting/elk hunting. Cliff is also a great "critical thinker," while being a humble dude, so he's a great person to dive into a variety of topics with, and especially those that might be tricky, controversial, and uncomfortable. In other words... another great "intellectual sparring partner" for some of the discussions we've had on here of late! For this discussion, we touch on: – Guiding/outfitting in Colorado – Forest Service management of guides/outfitters/habitat management/fire fuels mitigation, and more – Elk movement and behavior now vs. "what could be" once wolves hit the landscape – What Colorado sportsmen "might/could" do, and what they darn-well "should" do in response to what we're seeing with the wolf reintroduction, and – More
Public comment on the Colorado Wolf Reintroduction and Management Plan is pretty much over, and after the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission meeting on February 22, 2023, it looks like Colorado's elk hunting future is uncertain at best, to down-right over as we all currently know it, at worst! From Chris' perspective, having worked across from – having to deal with – animal activists throughout his professional career in Colorado for more than 20 years, he's not too optimistic, and believes Colorado's elk hunting [possibly most, if not ALL, hunting] is nothing more than a "dead man walking" at this point. In this discussion, Chris outlines: – Why he thinks that; – What his professional experience with animal activist groups is; – His experience with what happens when activists drive public policy; – What sportsmen can/might want to "do about it" with regard to the current climate of activism driving wildlife policy in Colorado.

It is hard to believe November is almost halfway over, and for John and his hunting partner Nate Jasper, that means their attention is turning to late season elk hunting. John and Nate started hunting elk together in Idaho during college in 2009, but this is a totally different type of hunt than anything either of them have ever done before. The two started out rifle hunting elk in October, but then transitioned to September archery hunting and have done that ever since. The hunt they are about to experience however, is Colorado's fourth season rifle hunt. This hunt takes place the week of Thanksgiving in late November. Cold and Snowy are probably the best way to describe the conditions, two things John in particular is not very experienced with as of late since graduating and moving away from Idaho in 2013. On this episode of the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast, John and Nate discuss their upcoming trip. Cold and Snowy are probably the best way to describe the conditions, two things John in particular is not very experienced with as of late since graduating and moving away from Idaho in 2013.On this episode of the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast, John and Nate discuss their upcoming trip. Rick has been teasing this episode for a few weeks now, and it's finally here! After some scheduling conflicts, the boys (yes, that means Dex is back!) are joined by friends Justin and Chris for an awesome chat about their upcoming elk hunting trip. Both Chris and Justin are members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) and through an encounter on a fire truck, they have forged a lifelong friendship, built around the outdoors. After years of hunting whitetail together, they set a goal to do a backcountry bow hunt for elk, and its finally here. This is Rick's bucket list trip, so he could not wait to have them walk us through their prep for this trip and this episode did not disappoint. From where their journey started, to where it now will be taking them, this show is full of quality information, entertaining conversation, and if your like Rick and Dex, it will have you anxiously awaiting the post-op episode once Chris and Justin return.
