This week on Where Parents Talk radio on 105.9 The Region, host Lianne Castelino speaks to Carol Todd, educator, internet safety advocate, founder of the Amanda Todd Legacy Society and mother about what parents and kids should know about the many faces of cyberabuse and sextortion.
Amanda Todd was just 15-years-old when she committed suicide on October 10, 2012. She had been the victim of relentless cyberbullying due to an older man taking advantage of her and convincing her to show her breasts online. That man then distributed the sexual photos of Amanda to her schoolmates, instigating the bullying that would come. She created a video and posted it to YouTube, showing flashcards that explained her story just before her death, which went viral and highlighted the growing issues of cyberbullying. This is her story.Suicide Hotline |https://talksuicide.caAmanda's video |https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOHXGNx-E7EPatreon |https://www.patreon.com/Femicide_PodcastFollow |@femicide_podcast on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/femicide_podcast/ @femicidepodcast on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/femicidepodcastHome Studio Equipment Used | Affiliate LinksBlue Yeti USB Microphone | https://amzn.to/2ShOMcrFoam Windscreen cover | https://amzn.to/38nriZaPop Filter | https://amzn.to/2Sjeu0vAcoustic Absorption Panel | https://amzn.to/39thLjcApple MacBook Pro | https://amzn.to/2OJip4cMusic credits |Ice flow musicMusic from https://filmmusic.io"Ice Flow" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com) License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Welcome to horrorland musicMusic from https://filmmusic.io"Welcome To Horrorland" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Information sources |https://www.amandatoddlegacy.org/amandas-story.htmlhttps://nypost.com/2022/08/07/dutch-man-aydin-coban-convicted-of-sexually-extorting-canadian-teen-amanda-todd/https://www.amandatoddlegacy.org/trial-of-aydin-coban.htmlhttps://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/aydin-coban-sentencing-october-14-1.6616874https://www.newyorker.com/culture/culture-desk/the-story-of-amanda-toddhttps://www.facebook.com/YouthUnderground.CH/videos/cyberbullying-amanda-todds-story/960625604669449/https://www.forevermissed.com/amanda-michelle-todd/aboutSupport the showPatreon |https://www.patreon.com/Femicide_PodcastFollow |@femicide_podcast on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/femicide_podcast/ @femicidepodcast on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/femicidepodcast
