Dan Briggs is the loveliest guy, a gentle giant with two great passions; his family (including a brand new and super cute puppy he got for Father's Day) and his job as Executive chef at Chin Chin. Dan has been part of the Chin Chin family for his whole career, which says a lot about the kind of environment the Lucas Group creates, and also about Dan's loyalty. I went in to Chin Chin on Flinder's Lane on a Wednesday afternoon and it was pumping. I think it is always pumping. We talked about the phenomenon of this sort of popularity, as well as advice for young people thinking about becoming a chef, and Dan gave me a behind the scenes tour of Chin Chin, which I of course absolutely loved. I don't know if you know this, but the kitchens at Chin Chin are tiny. They put out so much food every service and it is a party in the restaurant and an absolutely perfectly choreographed and organised magic place out the back. I loved every minute of my chat to Dan and I know you will love listening to it.
We're happy to debut a new podcast series in conjuction with the When It Was Cool network with the first episode of The Plot. What's that, you ask? It's going to be an examination of the spy/heist genre. It will look at film, television, comics, cartoons and whatever else that can fall under that umbrella. First up, we go to the very top of the genre for me, the original Mission Impossible TV show, which ran on CBS from 1966 to 1975. Naturally, we start with the Pilot, which starred Steven Hill as Dan Briggs, the team leader, along with regulars Barbara Bain, Greg Morris, Peter Lupus, Martin Landau and guest star Wally Cox. We look at the background on the show and then some brief chat about the episode itself, where the team goes to a Caribbean country to stop a dictator from using newly-acquired nuclear warheads against the United States. We also look at arguably the most-remembered episode of the show, Season 3's The Execution. We have Peter Graves in his second year as Jim Phelps, the regular team and guest villains Vincent Gardenia, Val Avery and Lew Askew. The team needs to get the goods on a mobster trying to control food prices and must get a hitman to rat out his boss by making him believe he is days away from being killed in the gas chamber. This episode was a little shorter than we planned, but didnt want to just add filler. It was the demo episode, so please forgive any hiccups or glitches. We'll be back soon with another episode. Thanks to Karl for the invitation. Make sure you sample the other shows on the When It Was Cool Network.
Adam has been kidnapped by sinister agents from TV Cream archive television podcast, and only Heather can rescue him. Disguised as Graham Kibble-White, Heather has infiltrated their base; knocked their butler unconscious; bugged their library; set up a complex pulley system involving a winch, three metres of cable, half a pound of dried figs and a copy of Horse & Hounds; and fashioned a decoy Adam out of plasticine. But is the Adam she now has in the boot of her car the real Adam, or is he too an impostor in disguise? Before his kidnap, Adam was busy watching an episode from the first season of Mission: Impossible, an American espionage/hijinks show featuring some people doing some things. Will Adam enjoy the adventures of Dan Briggs and his assorted pals, or will he tear off his mask and flounce away into the evening? An unprecedented fourth Carl Wilson says (or would've done had he been conscious), please like, rate, review and share the podcasthttps://twitter.com/retro_tubehttps://shows.acast.com/retrotubeemail: retrotubepodcast@gmail.comTheme Music by Berlin Horse, featuring the Dan Briggs Singers. The critically-acclaimed 2007 album “Colors” from progressive-metal giants Between The Buried And Me serves as a staple record and a stepping stone for many contemporary musicians. Fast forward 6 albums and a decade and a half later – we get “Colors II.” Bassist Dan Briggs joins IUF today to talk about this highly-anticipated record filled with everything you'd want as a BTBAM fan, and then some. As if the pressure wasn't already there to create a sequel to a fan favorite, their recent album “Automata I” has been nominated for a Grammy. Oh yeah, they got this for sure. Dan takes us through the twists and turns that brought this record to life, and plenty of influence and inspiration came from having the time to record an album during the pandemic. It's almost as if they were in a similar spot during the pre-production stages of “Colors” and “Colors II.” We ask Dan about those particular similarities and the themes that were chosen for the songs which paved the way for songwriting to reach different heights of creativity. And lastly, we talk about their starfish – YES, you read that correctly. BTBAM have a 67 million year prehistoric starfish named after them, thanks to a handful of scientists who happen to really appreciate the music the band has released throughout their decorated career. It's an origin story you don't want to miss. “Colors II” from Between The Buried And Me drops August 20 through Sumerian Records. Dan Briggs's friend's daughter is being held for ransom unless he can spring a witness out of police custody. Which makes the Impodible Missions Force ask a very important question: Who is Dan Briggs? Is he an ex-thug? Is he a serial killer? Why does he have no emotion when working on such a personal mission? Listen to find out!

Bass wunderkind Dan Briggs of Between the Buried and Me, Trioscapes and Orbs guests this week on the podcast. We discuss the foundations of his writing techniques, playing with two bands on the same tour, and why the members of BTBAM choose not to interact with their fans at shows. Chuck and Godless discuss the recent fascination with Babymetal, Unlocking the Truth and metal "youngsters" in general. Do we not have enough young blood making music, or are we setting the bar too high for these up-and-comers? We also discuss whether $25K is a good salary for a touring musician in light of the revealing statement released by ex-Testament bass player Greg Christian. Autopilot 05 - Mission Impossible Mission: Impossible is a U.S television series that was created and initially produced by Bruce Geller. It chronicles the missions of a team of secret government agents known as the Impossible Missions Force (IMF). In the first season, the team is led by Dan Briggs, played by Steven Hill; Jim Phelps, played by Peter Graves, takes charge for the remaining seasons. A hallmark of the series shows Briggs or Phelps receiving his instructions on a recording that then self-destructs, followed by the theme music composed by Lalo Schifrin.
