Josh Graham is back, and surrounded by some of the finest gentlemen around - like Intronaut's Sacha Dunable, Generation Of Vipers' Billy Graves and guitarist Dan Hawkins who played on the last A Storm Of Light record - under the name of Guiltless, he is now ready to unleash this new band's debut full-length. We sat down with the musician and visual artist to talk a bit more not just about this crushing new album and how Guiltless came to be, but also about his other musical and artistic activities.

What do you get when you combine members of Generation of Vipers, A Storm of Light and Intronaut, then get their collective creative juices flowing about, well... a lot of really heavy shit? (Think global warming, AI, the slow decay of human society in real time... you know! Fun stuff!)Well, you get GUILTLESS! (And also, you get one hell of a heavy listen.)Back in February, the intranational quartet released their new EP, Thorns, via Neurot Recordings, and Buke sat down with guitarist Josh Graham to learn a bit more about it. Throughout their conversation, the duo chat about the band's origins, how they came to work with Neurot, and the long debate they had over whether to release Thorns as an EP or try to stretch it into a full-length. Then, as tends to happen in conversations like these, things diverge. They talk about Graham's "day job" in design, and the increasing creep of AI into his livelihood. They talk about a harsh lesson Graham learned about the music business while performing in an industrial band in high school. They even trade GWAR stories! It's a short and sweet (by our standards), yet still wide-ranging conversation that you won't want to miss. Check it out!  9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

This week we somewhat go full cycle as we talk with the first person to give us an interview (a written one that is, or was back in 2021) - Josh Graham. The focus of our conversation is his new band Guitless with Sasha from Intronaut, Billy from Generation of Vipers and his bandmate from A Storm of Light, Dan. Interestingly, one of these guys was willing and keen to switch instruments and even funnier is the fact that the four guys haven't been in one room at the same time. That again, naturally, has implications for their songwriting process. Their debut EP Thorns will be released via Neurot Recordings on February 23. We also talk about the name of the band and the question whether people are guiltless or not, so you see there is also some really deep talk going on here, which is a result of Josh being such an easy person to talk with and him giving such well-versed answers. We also talk about ideas for a tour which at first glance seems unlikely given the schedule of these guys, but as the first full-length is already in preparation nothing seems unlikely for Guiltless! Enjoy!

J wanted to share some of his experiences as an introvert, and dispel some myths like 14.10MINSGoing back to The Career Author podcast, J shares how Zach and him met, and how they became co-hosts (as well as great friends and writing partners). “You have to be a more amplified version of yourself behind the microphone to be an engaging podcaster”.  In The Writers Well, J was the most vulnerable he's ever been, due to his relationship with co-host Rachael Herron and the format, where they would ask each other one question on the show, some of which were very personal.  21.10MINSJ and Rachael really hit it off when J appeared in Rachael's show and they started to podcast together, first as The Petal to the Metal, a name they changed pretty early on as it didn't convey what the show was about. “Podcast and book titles are not the places you want to be cute, because all that does is confuse.” The Author Life was created as a way of answering questions that were emerging in their community's online space. We talked about his early music career and how Craig and him were in some of their first bands playing their first shows together as kids.We talked about the Elephant in the Room, A couple years ago he was caught in the wav of the Metoo movement and accused of physical abuse. Naturally the reaction was massive losing ties with a lot of his bands labels and drum sponsors and friends. As we all know the truth is not always what it seems in the land of public opinion and social media. The new norm seems that you are guilty till proven innocent. We Had Danny explain his side of the whole messy tale. Fluid Existential Inversions is the sixth full length from L.A.'s Intronaut and it's another stellar stop on their journey that's taken them from sludge to atmospheric post-metal to truly progressive metal and everything in between. But, one thing is, and has been, abundantly clear about the band; each new album sees them actually progress in lieu of stagnate. Because of that, the conversation was all over the place but a deep discussion was had and resoundingly everyone liked it to one degree or another. Jon had the pick this month and was joined by first-timer Ian and long-timer Vince with Charles and Buke rounding out the bullpen. There's lots of talk surrounding Intronaut's past and how it has shaped their trajectory over the years, the effects of a new drummer on this recording, the band's Cloudkicker connection, and BASS LINES aplenty, as well as colorful commentary surrounding the genius of Fluid Existential Inversions and how it stacks up. All that, and of course lots of talk surrounding several other albums that piqued everyone's interest in February. And, since we missed January's pick, there's plenty more from the first month of the year. At a little over an hour there's a load of talk and great music mentioned, so jump in and satiate your desire for podcast companionship. Throughout the years, our beloved genre has been represented in the cinematic world time and again. A lot of these flicks our veterans listeners no doubt practically have committed to memory. These films also produce a number of characters whose stories ended as the credits rolled. This week, fresh off of finally seeing "This Is Spinal Tap" in a theatrical setting, we took it upon ourselves to complete these character's stories. Knowing what we know now with how the music biz has evolved we took some educated guesses and came up with some rather novel ideas of these lives and times. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we pour some Lemmys and crank some tunage from Intronaut, Stallion, Black Flag, and introduce Denmark's Vansind in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns!! Someone in a local music scene somewhere is always talking about how they watched band X grow, or how they've seen their music mature over the years. I'm not gonna be that guy. You've heard it all before.I knew John before I knew of his band Vasa. Our paths crossed when he was somehow added to the writing staff of Daily Dischord, a music website I used to (sorta still do?) run. I've seen him grow as a writer and over the years I guess his band have just always been there. Once I heard about his band, once I met the man himself, they seemed to be omnipresent in the Glasgow music scene and wherever his band was not, John was.I'm not going to talk about how much Vasa have changed since 2011. What I'm going to say is far more direct – their debut album ‘Colours' is a triumph. You'll hear us talk extensively about the record itself in the interview, but I think it's important to mention how interesting it is. It's dynamic, with huge production, odd and engaging arrangements, and with no shortage of hooks.Their ascension has been as well earned. Their star will, I think, continue to rise. This is the first interview I've ever conducted at home. I went mic to mic, breaking out the SM58 and leaving on the capsule mic for some ambience. There's weird noise in the background from time to time, and occasionally you can hear us laughing for what seems to be no reason – that's because my pet rabbit was out and about, causing trouble and generally being an adorable wee bastard.Highlights include: How he's waiting for the band to say something incredibly stupid in an interview Having been sitting on the album for ten months The reason Cynthia was added to the album Heavy, happy post rock Blaine as the primary songwriter Being heavier than most post rock bands Moving away from being a post rock band to just a general rock band And not being a math band The attraction to playing instrumental music stemming from hearing This Will Destroy You How Europe is so far ahead of the UK when it comes to playing shows and having friendly promoters with receptive crowds Shout out to Bloc in Glasgow for being one of the very few places that have a European style outlook on music – free entry, rider, food and payment Ruminating on why European shows are different from British ones John Niblock Loves Mudvayne (In a Non Ironic Way) Getting into bass, learning from Intronaut and Primus The John Niblock Toilet Graffiti Nexus and a shout out to Fecking Bahamas Why bass and not guitar Writing hooks in songs and how Blaine has a natural talent for writing them Asinine questions in interviews about the lack of vocalist and the origin of the name Where the drive to keep touring comes from Love for the new defunct The Darien Venture, Crusades and DIRTDRINKER The annoyance of not seeing bands fulfil their potential Being a relentless gobshite and talking to everyone The Creative Scotland application process The album recording process at The Ranch with Neil Kennedy and Daly George And my embarrassing bandsJohn's one of the easiest guys in the world to chat to and I think that come through in this interview. I hope you enjoy the episode.Featured MusicIntro: Voodoo Puppets – Electric Chair Blues (used under CC licence, you can check it out here).Vasa - The Angry DomeVasa - Ergonomic KeyboardVasa - Poseidon's KissLinksYou can buy their debut album over on their website.
