We talked about where that search stands and if the Owls can close out the season with a win over North Texas. And on his way out as Everett Withers enters his last game as Temple's interim head coach, the longtime college football veteran did not hold back on his assessment of today's game and what Temple must do to keep up with it. “I hope this administration hears the need for finances to keep good players on this football team,” Withers said Monday during his weekly availability as Temple's interim head coach. You'll hear audio from that interview and more about Temple basketball. Adam Fisher's Owls will see familiar faces in Fran Dunphy and Jahlil White up at La Salle Saturday, with the winner moving on to play St. Joe's for the Big 5 Classic championship. After leading New Mexico to the Mountain West Conference championship and into the NCAA Tournament, Jamal Mashburn Jr. entered the transfer portal and picked Temple, where he'll take the floor for the Owls as a preseason first-team All-American Athletic Conference selection. In his 1-on-1 interview with OwlScoop.com for this week's episode of The Scoop, Mashburn Jr. said he'll be playing his fair share of possessions on the ball as a point guard for second-year head coach Adam Fisher. Mashburn Jr. has seen enough from his new teammates on and off the court to have him believing Temple could be playing some meaningful basketball in March. “It's just been a family-oriented deal over here,” Mashburn Jr. told OwlScoop. “All the players, they love me for who I truly am and who I authentically am, and we're able to have those tough conversations early, which is what a good team needs in order to succeed in January and February. So, it's just this group is great. I think we're going to do some special things. We just got to go out there and continue to stack days.” On this week's podcast, Mashburn Jr. talked about his relationship with his father, offered a detailed breakdown of Temple's roster and talked about what is important to him off the court. Temple is licking its wounds after a 28-point loss last Thursday to Army, and now the Owls have another quarterback question on their hands. With third-year head coach Stan Drayton electing to keep starter Evan Simon on the field late in the fourth quarter of an unwinnable game, the Rutgers transfer took a hard hit and is now questionable with an SC joint injury in his shoulder heading into Saturday's road game at UConn. Who would start it he can't go? Can a Temple team that has continued to miss tackles on defense and miss assignments on the offensive line slow down a Huskies team that hasn't lost at home? John DiCarlo and Declan Landis take a look at all of that on this week's podcast, in addition to answering mailbag questions about a Temple men's basketball team that heads into head coach Adam Fisher's second season with a lot of potential. Intro: 0:00 – 3:30 On (or around) this date: 3:30 – 13:15 Recapping Temple's loss to Army: 13:15 – 25:27 Previewing Saturday's game at UConn: 25:27 – 36:37 Adam Fisher offers a look at Dillon Battie: 36:37 – 39:55 ‘Hello, Goodbye' with Cam Miles and KJ Cochran: 39:55 – 42:05 Mailbag: 42:05 – end

They look back on that incredible conference tournament run, talk about his road to Temple, discuss when he first knew he wanted to coach and much more. “1-on-1 with Matt Leon” is a KYW Newsradio original podcast. The Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race took place on August 10, 2024, and my good friend, Steve Bennett was up for the challenge. Steve has loved his mountain bike since he was young, and throughout the years has dabbled in different disciplines of the sport. Steve loves to race, and has had quite the success, even though he is so humble about how skilled he is on a bike. On a whim, he put in for the lottery for Leadville, and to his surprise found out he was in. He and his friend, Adam Fisher, made there way to Colorado a week before the race, and both made it over the finish line. Steve was so patient with my questions, and he went through every detail of his experience, his gear and more. I so appreciate Steve for stepping out of his comfort zone and sitting down with me to share his journey to the finish line in Leadville, CO. Westtown School 4-star guard Cam Wallace, the 116th-ranked player in Rivals' 2025 class, got the week off to a great start for the Owls when he announced his verbal commitment to Temple, and 3-star DME Academy forward Babatunde Durodola kept the energy going Friday when he announced he was reclassifying to the 2024 class and signing with Temple, giving the Owls a 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward who had a very solid summer on the Under Armour AAU Circuit with Canada Elite and played this past season down in Florida against the respective consensus No. 1 players in the 2024 and 2025 classes in Duke recruit Cooper Flagg and A.J. Dybantsa. You'll hear part of our 1-on-1 conversations with Wallace, Durodola and Canada Elite Co-Director Jordan McFarlane, who has coached Durodola on the AAU circuit and mentored him since the fourth grade. You'll also hear why Drayton is taking his team to Franklin Field Friday night for the Owls' next preseason scrimmage that will help the staff make some decisions on the depth chart and also hear from the third-year head coach about why he's taken his time with the single-digit voting. Temple's Board of Trustees unanimously appointed John Fry as the university's 15th president Wednesday morning, and we talked on this week's episode of The Scoop about how Drexel's former president might impact the Owls' athletic programs. Fry, who has served as Drexel's president for the last 14 years and helped it raise more than $800 million over a five-year span from 2017 to 2022, spoke with The Temple News Wednesday about a number of topics, including athletics. Temple's student newspaper shared some of that audio with OwlScoop that you'll hear on the Scoop, including Fry's initial thoughts on Temple's lease agreement with the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field and what he would like to see change in order for the Owls to be successful. And in the mailbag, OwlScoop editors John DiCarlo and Kyle Gauss answered questions about how Adam Fisher and his staff might use their last available scholarship for the 2024 class and if the Owls have a good enough roster to potentially earn an at-large NCAA Tournament bid. This week's episode of OwlScoop.com's podcast is packed with a little bit of everything, so time stamps will be your friend. Temple men's basketball fans can enjoy the first part of our 1-on-1 interview with Owls forward Steve Settle, who explained how he and his teammates turned around their season in the span of five games to get to the brink of a conference championship and NCAA Tournament berth. If you're curious about what the latest House v. NCAA settlement will mean for a program like Temple, Philadelphia lawyer Andrew Hope joined us on The Scoop again to lend his legal perspective to the issue and explained while it may not be such a bad thing for the Owls and the landscape of college athletics. And fans of yesterday and today can tune in for the unveiling of our first Summertime Madness bracket that pits former and current Temple food spots against each other in tournament matchups that will be decided by you – the listeners and voters – and the OwlScoop staff. Where do pizza places like Eddie's, Fames and Philly Style check in? Remember the place on campus back in the 90s on Broad Street that served Chines food and donuts? It made the field, too. What's the latest on the recruiting front as Adam Fisher and his staff look to fill out their last two scholarship spots? The transfer portal has its ups and downs, and Stan Drayton's football program experienced both feelings in the same week. Just days after getting a verbal commitment from Division II defensive tackle Collin Vaughn, Temple lost Vaughn to Utah State after he changed his mind less than a week later. So what's next for Drayton's football program and Adam Fisher's men's basketball program on the recruiting front? What's an early educated guess at Fisher's starting five? Want to hear a story about Allen Iverson and Aaron McKie during their time together with the 76ers? We dove into that and much more on this week's mailbag and talked more about our Scoop Summer Madness field of 34 food bracket, which will be revealed next week.
After landing New Mexico transfer Jamal Mashburn Jr., Temple head coach Adam Fisher and his staff added two more important players to their backcourt in St. Joe's transfer and legacy recruit Lynn Greer III and Penn State transfer Jameel Brown, who grew up just a few blocks from Temple's North Philadelphia campus. Scoop listeners will hear exclusive audio from Greer III and Brown in this week's episode, a detailed report on Diane Richardson's revamped women's basketball roster, and answers to your questions from a very full mailbag. With top-five marks among all linebackers in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump and broad jump at last week's NFL Scouting Combine, former Temple linebacker Jordan Magee helped his draft stock as next month's NFL Draft approaches, and he joined us on The Scoop this week to talk about his success out in Indianapolis. Magee is back in Philadelphia and told OwlScoop.com he plans to be around his former team for its first spring practice next week, and we talked about some of the names to watch as third-year head coach Stan Drayton and his staff look to build a team that can blend in more than 40 new players. That, answers to your mailbag questions and more await on this week's OwlScoop.com podcast.

The second-team all-American Athletic Conference selection led the Owls in tackles for a second consecutive season and posted 14 TFL, and now he's training in Fort Myers, Florida as he continues to recover from a torn right biceps that prematurely ended his 2023 season and his Temple career. The Dover, Delaware native talked about his draft prep and where he is with his recovery, and OwlScoop.com subscribers will have access to our full interview with Magee later this week. John DiCarlo and Declan Landis also recapped a tough week for Adam Fisher's men's basketball team and a big win for Diane Richardson's women's squad and answered mailbag questions about Stan Drayton's football team and even the Justice League in this week's mailbag.
