MDJ Script/ Top Stories for September 3rd Publish Date: September 3rd Commercial: From the BG Ad Group Studio, Welcome to the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast. Today is Wednesday, September 3rd and Happy Birthday to Charlie Sheen I’m Keith Ippolito and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Times Journal 113-home development rezoning request tabled KSU recognized as Military Support College of Distinction Dove hunting this year? Make sure you have completed a hunter education course All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! BREAK: INGLES 7 STORY 1: 113-home development rezoning request tabled A rezoning request for a 113-home development near I-75 and South Marietta Parkway has been put on hold—at the owner’s request. The plan? Single-family homes and townhomes on 19.5 acres, though the builder, Traton, LLC, flagged some design and engineering tweaks. Kevin Moore, the project’s attorney, said revisions are underway to meet technical requirements and ensure the project’s feasibility. This isn’t the land’s first rodeo. Back in 2021, a 204-townhome proposal for the same area was shot down after community pushback. Will this smaller plan fare better? Time will tell. STORY 2: KSU recognized as Military Support College of Distinction Kennesaw State University has earned the title of Military Support College of Distinction—one of only two schools in Georgia to snag the honor. It’s not just a badge; it’s a nod to KSU’s deep commitment to veterans, service members, and their families. From scholarships that fill funding gaps to partnerships with groups like the Warrior Alliance and Wounded Warrior Project, KSU goes beyond academics. They even host Georgia’s only VetSuccess on Campus counselor, guiding veterans through benefits, careers, and life’s next steps. STORY 3: Dove hunting this year? Make sure you have completed a hunter education course Got your eye on the perfect dove field this season? Before you grab your gear, make sure you’ve checked off one thing: hunter education. The Georgia DNR’s Wildlife Resources Division makes it easy with online and in-person options. Online courses (10 options, one in Spanish) range from free to $49.95, while in-person classes are free. Born after Jan. 1, 1961? You’ll need this. Details at GeorgiaWildlife.com. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info. We’ll be right back. Break: Ingles 7 STORY 4: Cobb District Attorney’s Office launches Victim Advocates Academy Last month, District Attorney Sonya Allen’s office kicked off its first-ever Victim Advocates’ Academy—a five-session program aimed at giving advocates the tools, knowledge, and trauma-informed practices they need to better support crime victims. The next session? Thursday, Sept. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cobb Public Safety Training Center in Austell. This one dives into post-conviction advocacy, including the Pardon & Parole process, with statewide resources shared by the Office of Victim Services. STORY 5: UPDATE: Fire destroys east Cobb restaurant An overnight fire gutted Chin Chin Chinese Restaurant, a beloved east Cobb spot that had been part of the community for 30 years. Owner Jasmine Chen, heartbroken, said the flames consumed everything. “I locked up around 10:15 p.m.,” Chen said. “By morning, it was gone.” A friend, who didn’t want to be named, said the fire likely started in the kitchen around 12:30 a.m. and spread fast. Chen, who’s owned the restaurant for 15 years, said, “Everyone knows Chin Chin. East Cobb has been so good to us.” Now, she waits for the insurance investigation. Break: STORY 6: Waterfowl Hunters: Early Teal and Goose season opportunities Duck, duck…goose season’s almost here, y’all! Georgia hunters, it’s time to gear up for early teal and Canada goose season. Mark your calendars: goose season runs Sept. 6-28, 2025 (daily limit: five), and teal season is Sept. 13-21, 2025 (daily limit: six). Looking for a spot? Check out WMAs open for small game, or hit lakes like Juliette and Clarks Hill. Don’t forget your licenses and stamps—grab ’em at GoOutdoorsGeorgia.com. STORY 7: $3.3M roundabout project proposed at Powder Springs intersection Powder Springs and GDOT want your thoughts on a $3.3 million roundabout project at Austell-Powder Springs Road and Marietta Street. Right now, it’s just a traffic light and two lanes—but the plan? A four-exit roundabout, 6-foot sidewalks, and 10-foot bike paths connecting to the Silver Comet Trail. Why the change? Between 2020 and 2024, 69 crashes happened there—most right in the intersection. GDOT says the roundabout could cut injury crashes by 78%. Got opinions? Share them by Friday online, by mail, or email. Questions? Call the city or GDOT. Your voice could shape the final design—or stop it altogether. We’ll have closing comments after this.

The Game Changers podcast celebrates those true pioneers in education who are building schools for tomorrow. In episode 193 of Game Changers, Phil Cummins joins in conversation with Benjamin Cooper, Executive Chef at Chin Chin for a holiday special. Hailing from the small town of Taree in New South Wales, Benjamin Cooper has been Executive Chef at beloved Southeast Asian restaurant Chin Chin for the past 13 years. He has worked with several of Australia's most celebrated chefs, flexing his skill and knowledge in kitchens across Melbourne and the UK. Originally aiming to pursue a career in economics, Benjamin ended up completing a culinary apprenticeship on a gap year — and never looked back. The early days of his career saw him head to the UK, where he worked with head chefs at renowned restaurants including Nobu London, Bluebird in Chelsea and Smiths of Smithfield. Cooper's passion for authentic techniques and high-quality ingredients grew as he worked with Australia's best-known Thai cuisine chef, David Thompson, at Nahm within London's The Halkin — the first Michelin-starred Thai restaurant in Europe. Returning to Melbourne, Benjamin worked as Head Chef at fine-diner Ezard and esteemed Thai restaurant Longrain, both stints cementing his love of fresh and fiery flavours. In 2011, Benjamin joined restaurateur Chris Lucas to launch Chin Chin, where his now trademark big, brash flavour combinations had diners lining up down the street from day one. An icon of Melbourne's food scene, Chin Chin arguably kickstarted the city's trend of dining with energy, colour and music from its location on Flinders Lane. Benjamin's passion, understanding of ingredients and knack for experimenting with flavours and texture combinations has redefined Southeast Asian cuisine in Australia. It's helped drive Chin Chin's incredible success within the country's hospitality scene, not just with the restaurant's original Melbourne location, but also its second outpost in Sydney's Surry Hills (opened in 2017) and the addition of Club Chin Chin at GMHBA Stadium (2024). Aside from the fiery Asian food he brings to life at Chin Chin, Cooper is passionate about coffee and cheese, and shares his years of culinary experience with those keen to learn via Chin Chin's own ‘Cooking with Cooper' classes. Benjamin's recipes and kitchen experience have also contributed to Chin Chin's three cookbooks, ‘Chin Chin: The Book', ‘Chin Chin: Feed Me' and the just-released ‘Chin Chin: Still Hungry'. The Game Changers podcast is produced by Evan Phillips supported by a School for tomorrow (aschoolfortomorrow.com), and powered by CIRCLE. The podcast is hosted on SoundCloud and distributed through Spotify, Google Podcasts, and Apple Podcasts. Please subscribe and tell your friends you like what you are hearing. This podcast covers New Girl Season 4, Episode 8, Teachers, which originally aired on Nov 8, 2014 and was written by Kim Rosenstock and directed by Trent O'Donnell. Here's a quick recap of the episode:Jess and Coach go to a teachers' conference where she has to spend the weekend with Ryan, forcing her to face her feelings for him. Meanwhile Winston, Nick, and Schmidt have a “guys night”.This episode got a 8/10 rating from Kritika whose favorite character was Winston and Kelly rated this episode a 7.5/10 and her favorite character was Jess! While not discussed in the podcast, we noted other references in this episode including:Chicago Bulls Logo - When the guys were looking at a health textbook, they said the female reproductive system kind of looked like the Chicago Bulls symbol.[Pi Beta Phi] - In the flashback of Schmidt doing laundry, he saw a group of women he referred to as “Pi-Phis”, likely referring to the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women. Elizabeth - When Cece was reading Jess the letter Jess wrote to herself, she posed the question, "Did you learn nothing from the movie Elizabeth, you stupid little bitch?" because “No one respects a queen who sleeps with her subjects.” Denzel Washington / The Preacher's Wife - When Jess was describing Ryan to Cece, Jess shared “he might be an angel sent down to Earth like Denzel Washington in The Preacher's Wife.” She later also shares the same reference directly with Ryan. Magic Johnson / Kobe Bryant - When Coach was determining how he would teach Health, he said he would maybe bring up Magic Johnson or Kobe Bryant, but the other teacher's weren't sure that would be effective. Agic Chin-Chin - When Jess and Ryan were drinking from mini alcohol bottles they cheers with Jess saying “Chin-Chin”.Thanks for listening and stay tuned for Episode 9! Building a successful wedding and event planning company can't be easy, but it's all in a day's work for Lin Ching Ching of Taipei's Chin Chin Weddings. Hear how the self-confessed "farm girl" built a thriving business by doing something young men and women can dream about -- owning a high-end event planning firm with a designer client roster.
Sonia and Stu are the husband and wife behind Chin Chin Farm in Chintin, VIC. The award winning farm is a regeneration success story with Sonia and Stu originally realising that they had bought a "capeweed farm".Over the last few years Sonia and Stu have begun a program of improving soil health, making decisions that are best for the land and what's growing on it and trying to transform it into a viable commercial success. They have applied regenerative and natural sequence farming principles instead of chemical intervention to restore and rebuild their now thriving polyculture. They sit as award winning Lavender farmers, with Stu ascending to the position of treasurer for The Australian Lavender Growing Association (Talga) and helping drive forward Australia's emerging Lavender industry. Not content at that, they have also developed the farm to provide viable honey, Lamb and wildflower produce as well as growing "bush foods", which they are using in a variety of their products.Lastly they are now hosting on farm workshops in a giant Swedish teepee that they have erected on the farm, meaning people can not just enjoy their hand crafted products, from lavender oil to bush food jam but they can enjoy the farm itself.Hosts: Jayde Timms & Sam Baff from Grown Not FlownGuest: Sonia and Stuart Whiteman from Chin Chin Farm. In today's episode, we discuss the Oklahoma beatdown and the firing of Coach Chinandner.
Starting out my 2022 Sweeps Period, this is a re-edited episode that is my absolute favorite from An Older Gay Guy Show. This took place in the early 1980's while I was working as a Funeral Director & Embalmer on Cape Cod. It is the most memorable and unique experience that I ever had in the Funeral industry. It is a story that I shall never forget, and I hope you get a laugh and that it touches your heart, as it did mine. Thank you to all my wonderful listeners for once again making me a Finalist in this year's People Choice Podcast Awards ! Hugs to all of you. ~Joey
