Today's Combat Story is near and dear to my heart for reasons I can't share because they're classified. We hear the firsthand account from one of the men involved in the brutal 13 hours of fighting in Benghazi in 2012, Kris “Tanto” Paronto, who would later co-author the book “13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi” and advise Director Michael Bay and the cast who created the movie of the same name. This is one of my favorite episodes. Time flew by as we touched on so many topics from the learnings Kris shared in two other books (The Patriot's Creed: Inspiration and Advice for Living a Heroic Life and The Ranger Way: Living the Code On and Off the Battlefield) to insight into what it meant to be a part of the CIA's GRS or Global Response Staff (read this CIA Career page to hear how interesting this job is and trust me when I say these guys were great: https://www.cia.gov/careers/jobs/protective-agent/) to how it felt the moment he and a handful of selfless other men decided to defy direct orders from above and risk their lives for other Americans in Libya. There's ZERO politics in this episode. If you're looking for that, you won't find it here. This is all about what happened to the people on the ground at the time, which made me appreciate Kris and his perspective even more.Since leaving the military and Agency, Kris has become a serial entrepreneur with a clothing line, vodka brand, podcast, shooting and medical training courses, and is now making his tactical programs more of an experience with E3 Firearms which goes beyond just hitting the range and is something that I think many of our listeners will want to be a part of. I hope you appreciate this wide ranging, hilarious, and selfless Combat Story as much as I did. In today's episode, we review action Director Michael Bay's latest movie "Ambulance". This film is a remake of a Danish movie from 2005 of the same name. The cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Eiza González. DRONES! DRONES! DRONES! Did I mention this movie has a lot of awesome drone footage in it? While this might be one of Michael Bay's smaller movies budget-wise the energy in Michael Bay films (including this one) is always explosive. He last minute with no prep adds a scene in the LA river with 2 helicopters that secured at the last minute. Why? Because he can! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sohrabsmoviequeue/message
Director Michael Bay's 2013 movie PAIN & GAIN revolves around a crew of bodybuilding criminals in Miami. However, unlike most of the mayhem maestro's filmography, this one is actually based on reality! But how accurate is this story of beefy bandits Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Mackie and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson? Get yourself pumped and find out “WTF REALLY Happened to PAIN & GAIN!”
Director Michael Bay, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, actors Nicolas Cage and Ed Harris, and technical advisor Harry Humphries
In the new episode of Film Stories with Simon Brew, an action favourite with a lot of writers, and a war movie hit that ended up criticised in UK Parliament. The Rock (1996) utilised lots of writers, and its stars - Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage, Ed Harris - all had significant input. Director Michael Bay meanwhile would do a bit of battle with Disney over the film. Jonathan Mostow first had the inspiration for U-571 when he was developing The Game. But as he lost control of that film, his submarine movie bubbled up - and hit some controversial waters. Find Simon on Twitter at @simonbrew, and the podcast can be found at @filmstoriespod. Welcome to The Rock! In this episode, Jackie subjects Austin and Jenn to the cinematic stylings of Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage in all their glory. We learn that there’s a fill mining system below Alcatraz, sometimes Marines are the bad guys, and most importantly, that Sean Connery is…magic? Film: The Rock (1996) Director: Michael Bay
In 1995, Will Smith and Michael Bay were names known for things that were well outside the realm of blockbuster filmmaking. Oh sure, Bay had done quite a few well received music videos, and Smith was in millions of homes and stereos as The Fresh Prince. But once Bad Boys was released, everything changed. Smith became a huge box office draw and Bay would go on to make five films that contained robots fighting which we covered on this podcast last year. So what happened to the once top billed Martin Lawrence? And why are we getting Bad Boys For Life a mere 17 years following the second installment? Those are among the many things this retrospective featuring myself, Matt, and Michael Guarnieri, will explore. In 2003, two out of the three principle stars of the Bad Boys franchise needed a hit. Director Michael Bay was two years removed from a strike out at an attempt at credibility with 2001's Pearl Harbor, and Martin Lawrence was doing, well, Martin Lawrence things. Will Smith, on the other hand, was newly minted as an Oscar nominee for Ali. But he also was coming off a pretty bad one two punch, this one containing Legend of Bagger Vance and Wild Wild West. So eight years after the first Bad Boys was released, all three stars finally came together for its sequel. Which is what we are here to discuss. Bad Boys II. A film both reviled and loved by many. What else is new with Michael Bay? Yet, how will we feel about it? Listen to Matt, Mike, and myself dissect the, uhhh, plot to the film, and try to determine if Joey Pants had a career immediately following its release. Be sure to check back next week as all three of us will return for a full review of Bad Boys For Life! Bad Boys II (2003) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10) CLICK ABOVE TO LISTEN NOW! Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher discuss the last of the Sam Witwicky trilogy of live-action Transformers flicks, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Chicago, a mustached robot, and sliding down buildings collide in another overlong entry of the Transformers series. Sam (Shia LaBeouf) is a young man looking for a job in the big city, but the Transformers have other plans on their mind. The evil Decepticons are trying to transport their homeworld of Cybertron into Earth through the use of space transportation, pilars, and gumption. The Autobots can't let that happen, so they once again pull Sam away from his responsibilities to help them plan a counterattack. Director Michael Bay adds better action, a slightly more coherent story, and a real sense of spectacle to the proceedings this time around, but it's starting to feel long in the tooth. Mat picked up the Back to the Future: 30th Anniversary video game on sale simply because Tom Wilson reprises his role as Biff Tannen; in the original release of this graphic adventure, a soundalike was used. Thrasher found Justice League to be an adequate time at the movies. Both of them discuss the recent rumblings of a Disney-Fox merger that looks like it shall come to pass. The Alien Queen will finally be a Disney Princess after all these years! Listen to this episode while bragging about your Deep Wang for maximum enjoyment. The Seibertron.com Twincast Podcast's latest episode catches up with the latest news and notes about the upcoming next chapter in the Transformers live action movie franchise, The Last Knight, from Paramount and Director Michael Bay. Impressions of the footage shown at this past week's IMAX Fan Event preview are discussed, along with the special trip Seibertron.com's owner got to experience. After a long look at these topics, some of the upcoming toys to support the film are discussed, including the recently seen Voyager Class Nitro, Deluxe Class Skullitron, and the speculative look at Cogman. Kabam's mobile platform fighting video game, Transformers: Forged to Fight has launched, and the cast members that have already started on this latest adventure fill in listeners on what they can expect from this game. A brief discussion about the IDW Hasbro Universe then occurs, including reasons why Transformers fans can enjoy those comics on their own without needing to necessarily follow other Hasbro property series. The show wraps up with a long 'freestyle' segment, where cast members can bring up any topic they choose. This ends up including things ranging from the recently released Masterpiece MP-36 Megatron from Takara Tomy, and even 3D printing and how that could affect the future of the Transformers brand.
