Professor Julian Wamble, who we first had on our show back in 2023 on MuggleCast #619, once more graces us with his presence as we discuss Chapter 28 of Order of the Phoenix, "Snape's Worst Memory." Julian teaches Political Science at George Washington University, and his podcast Critical Magic Theory as well as Instagram and TikTok content are worth checking out! Welcome back to the show, Professor Julian Wamble! News: Tom Felton to reprise his role as Draco Malfoy, in New York's production of Cursed Child! Chapter-by-Chapter returns with Chapter 28 of Order of the Phoenix, "Snape's Worst Memory." Our Time Turner segment takes us back to Episode 465 of MuggleCast, titled "How I Met Your Mother." How are we going to top that title on *this* re-read? (Speaking of reading, here is that episode's transcript.) Umbridge's ascent to headmistress of Hogwarts has some classic authoritarian playbook strategies. The hosts dissect. Is the appointment of the Inquisitorial Squad merely a natural response to the thought that Dumbledore was raising an army? Andrew explains. We look at what Umbridge promised Filch, and consider whether she intends to keep those promises. Harry would've been poisoned, if it weren't for a singularly interesting cat... that reminds us of a scene from Deathly Hallows... Would Snape have actually given truth serum to Umbridge, and why not? The hosts discuss his loyalties. Fred and George have a perfect tonic for Umbridge's control, and it perfectly exploits her vulnerabilities. It's a good thing Harry's Occlumency lesson is interrupted... because he didn't do the homework! What makes Harry enter the pensieve despite how dangerous the threat of being caught is? What Marauders' personality traits did the hosts most enjoy on this readthrough? How will the Harry Potter TV show handle Snape's Worst Memory? Professor Wamble has thoughts. Are there more traits between Harry and his dad, or Harry and his mom, and what are they? The hosts pick a favorite moment of mayhem from this chapter. In our Lynx Line segment for the week, we ask our Patrons to build their own Inquisitorial Squad to serve a purpose at Hogwarts that is currently underserved, and ask what the team would do. In Part 2 of our conversation with Lynnsey Robinson, we go deeper into the woo (and the why) — decoding what our dreams are really trying to tell us, how to approach tarot as a tool for self-reflection (not fortune-telling), and how to actually use affirmations so they don't feel like empty words. We talk about what it means when you keep having the same dream over and over again, how tarot can help you get unstuck, and why slapping “I am confident” on your mirror isn't enough if your subconscious isn't on board. Send us a textWho would emerge victorious in a fight between your favorite TV dads, sidekicks, and everyday characters? That's the question at the heart of our hilariously chaotic "Average Joe Beatdown" tournament, where we pit characters like Fonzie, Marshall Erickson, and Hank Schrader against each other in increasingly absurd showdowns. The rules are simple: no characters with military backgrounds or supernatural abilities—just regular folks thrown into extraordinary combat scenarios. What begins as a straightforward tournament quickly descends into delightful madness as the competitors face off in locations ranging from the Batcave to Santa's Workshop, wielding everything from brass knuckles to saxophones. The tournament takes unexpected turns when Marshall Erickson, the gentle giant from How I Met Your Mother, goes on a shocking winning streak. prompting increasingly bewildered reactions from us as hosts. Throughout these fictional battles, we debate each character's hidden strengths, unlikely skills, and potential strategies. Would Ron Swanson's woodworking expertise translate to combat prowess? Could Dr. Cox's medical knowledge give him an edge in a fight? These questions lead to passionate debates, surprising insights, and moments of pure comedic gold.By the final duel on a skyscraper rooftop, only one character can claim the title of ultimate Average Joe champion. Listen now to discover who emerges victorious, and let us know your dream match ups for our next tournament! In part four of our discussion of The Office, we dive in to the various romance storylines the show featured, and how we feel about them! From the classic sitcom "will-they-or-won't-they" tension between Jim and Pam, to Michael and Holly's second chance romance, to the hilariously toxic relationship between Kelly and Ryan, there's a little something for everyone. (Erin's personal favorite is, of course, Dwangela.)Our exploration veers into a series of hot takes on romance novel tropes like enemies to lovers, mutual pining, and love triangles, and you know how Rhonda feels about love triangles (she thinks they're good, actually). We also look at how the romances on The Office compare to love stories in other sitcoms, like New Girl, How I Met Your Mother, Abbott Elementary, and Friends. And this episode features our Finer Things Club discussion of the book Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. Our next episode is our last planned installment of our Office discussion, so be sure not to miss it! How I Met Your Mother is a sitcom filled with all kinds of drama – miniscule to major – but one big fight that's stayed a topic of conversation even all of these years later is the blowup between Lily Aldrin and Ted Mosby. It's not necessarily the most dramatic or consequential fight of the show but it is surprisingly important. Taking a second look at their battle after some time allows us to see it in a new light, and gives us insight into the deeper, more important layer to their problem. (And this also gives us some pretty useful pointers for our own lives, too!) So what's the truth about Lily and Ted's big fight? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

IT'S LETTER DAY! It's 2 PM before the soirée! Anne and Harville discuss women's vs. men's constancy, Wentworth writes Anne a kicker of a letter, and they FINALLY talk about their feelings for each other.Topics discussed include internal panic, Wentworth's attempts to attach himself to Louisa, whether Anne was right to be persuaded by Lady Russell, Wentworth's pride, and whether hazelnuts poop Nutella.Glossary of Terms and Phrases:innoxious (adj.): having no adverse effect. innocuous. not injurious to physical or mental health.Glossary of People, Places, and Things: The Notebook, Amanda Fagan - Half Agony, Half Hope, Veronica Mars, The Good Place, How I Met Your Mother, Spongebob, Kacey Musgraves - Happy & Sad, BeyoncePatron Study Questions:Adrianna: How does the conversation between Anne and Harville resemble the hazelnut conversation from earlier in the novel, and does this parallel show the development of Anne, Wentworth, and their relationship?Avi: In this chapter, there is a discussion between Anne and Captain Harville about the feelings of men versus women. From this discussion, and from the other books you have read, what do you think Jane Austen is saying about the perception of women in her society?Ghenet: OH BABY THIS CHAPTER! 1. What does Mrs. Croft and Mrs. Musgrove's conversation about engagements show us about society and about Anne and Wentworth, their feelings and their own engagement? Why does this conversation get them so in their feels? 2. Where does the ‘half agony half hope' proposal rank for you in other main character proposals from the books you've read so far (ie Edward, Darcy, Knightley etc)!Anna: If Mrs. Croft represents the best case scenario for what Anne's life would have been if she'd married Wentworth all those years ago, Mrs. Smith in many ways represents the worst-case scenario (widowed with no income, cut off from helpful connections, etc.). Does seeing both outcomes affect your opinion on Anne's original decision all those years ago? How do you think that affect's Anne's ultimate opinion on her actions? Becca's Study Questions: Topics discussed include Austen's beliefs on constancy and moving on, the letter's role in the story, Wentworth's heartbreak playlist and his journey through the book.Quote: "I am half agony, half hope."Questions Moving Forward: What will Anne's family say? What will happen with Elliot and Mrs. Smith?Who wins the chapters?
