In Season 4, episode 7, we head over to Israel, a relatively unexplored escape room region that has a bounty of creative, lighthearted themes. We chat with prolific escape room designer Gai Bosco of Cerebro, who has designed over 200 escape rooms, or roughly 25% of the Israeli market. Gai is not only an escape room creator, he is a mega-enthusiast and self-proclaimed nerd who got his start creating sci-fi fan fiction. The Israeli escape room scene is teeming with family-friendly fandom themes, with escape rooms playing homage to many movies including The Lion King, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and TV shows like Friends and How I Met Your Mother. One of the other notable and unique Israeli escape room themes we discussed culinary escape rooms, where you gather ingredients for a recipe and that you actually bake or cook over the course of your game. Gai is a passionate ambassador for Israeli escape rooms. His game The Sting is his love letter to escape rooms, and includes many enthusiast-insider nods and plays with the concept of escape room tropes. It was clear that Gai really loves his craft and wants to share the joy of Israeli escape rooms with the world.   Show Notes   Episode Sponsors Thank you to our sponsors:  Morty - A free app for discovering, planning, tracking, and reviewing your escape rooms and other immersive social outings. In the wake of the news of Netflix's financial woes, Gunnar and Wade discuss why HBO never seems to put out a "stinker" and always gets it right? Alex Joes has lost his day in court and owes almost a billion dollars to the plaintiffs. He obviously, will never be able to pay this amount, should the court make up some sort of "5 slap rule" from How I Met Your Mother to try and get a bit more out of the amount owed? #HBO #Chainsaw Man #Alex Jones #HowIMetYourMother #RIPCartoonNetwork #AdultSwim

It's a reunion!  Twenty years after being his production assistant on a film set in Austin, TX, Kal Penn and I get a chance to sit down and catch up about it all.Kal Penn, is an American actor, author, academic lecturer and former White House staff member in the Barack Obama administration. You may know him from television shows such as House, Designated Survivor, Sunnyside, and How I Met Your Mother. He is also recognized for his performance in the film The Namesake and of course the Harold and Kumar series (I personally still love Taj Mahal Badalandabad). Penn has taught at the University of Pennsylvania in the Cinema Studies Program as a visiting lecturerWe talk about it all from our first impressions, to those fantastic middle school years, to his job as a farmhand right before he went to UCLA. He talks about the meaning behind the Brown Catch-22, his journey with stereotyping in Hollywood, his experience going to India with President Barack Obama, and why he needed a mini-fridge in the White House. We of course bust out with some Gujarati (our native Indian language) which Kal definitely schools me on.His new memoir, You Can't Be Serious, is out and it's a fantastic read! There just wasn't enough time to give a shout out to all the uncles and aunties we loved growing up.....

Hey beautiful! So no one told you life was gonna be this way? I am back this week with a solo episode, and I had an urge to just talk about my 2 favorite shows: How I Met Your Mother and Friends. I thought, well these shows tackled a lot of issues and topics related to being in your 20s and felt like I needed to share my perspective of them with you all. I hope you enjoy me rambling on about these two shows and how they relate to my own 20s experience. I talk about examples like Chandler/Marshall being unemployed, Barney/Robin/Lily/Monica having daddy& mommy issues, as well as the most common dilemma of going out with your friends... splitting the bill *GASP*. This week's wine pairing is also a different one and relates to this week's mini wine lesson... a dessert wine! Yes, for all my sweet wine loving followers, this wine is a great one to try! It literally came straight from Greece as well. I go more into depth about the wine itself and how exactly dessert wines are made. Joe Thompson started his improv career 9 years ago at the University of Sheffield, where he joined and later became Artistic Director of the university improv society ‘The Shrimps'. Since then, he has been featured in the Leicester Comedy Award nominated long form group ‘Scriptless in Seattle' and performed at the Y-Not Festival with Sturike Comedy. Joe's interest in improv is academic as well – he got his Masters in Arts and Cultural Management and his thesis examined hierarchies within improv communities! (I've got to read that paper!) These days, you can find Joe running monthly nights with his production company Little Chicago as well as teaching and performing at various venues throughout the UK. Joe Thompson currently co-runs and teaches improv with the Spontaneity and Sheffield Steel (SASS Improv) theater group alongside improv colleague, Owen Scrivens. In our conversation, we first explored different styles of storytelling. We did a particular deep dive on JJ Abrams, who I really love! (oh hey, watch out because there are How I Met Your Mother spoilers in the opening discussion). Joe told me how the Pokemon shows he watched as a kid inspired him to create his own storylines at home when playing with his toys. We talk about immersive games and “playing narratively not competitively.” Joe and I connected on so many levels; this was a great conversation about creating art in our current cultural landscape. A big topic that came up multiple times was how sometimes making money with your art can affect the art that you create. We discussed how to find your own voice as an artist. This week on Yes But Why, I chatted with Joe Thompson, an improv performer and teacher based out of Sheffield, UK. Josh Radnor's career has spanned television (HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, HUNTERS), Broadway (DISGRACED, THE BABYLON LINE), film (HAPPYTHANKYOUMOREPLEASE, LIBERAL ARTS), and music, recording both as a solo arist and part of the duo RADNOR & LEE. On this week's episode of ARTS EDUCATORS SAVE THE WORLD, Josh links all these forms of storytelling back to his graduate education at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and, specifically, to his singing teacher, Deb Lapidus, who inspired him -- and us -- with her wisdom. She tells us "I think that the idea of 'getting it right' is the thing that can really limit people as they are trying to do their work. For me the only way to 'fail' is to not try." Cobie Smulders is an actress who is known for her role as Robin Scherbatsky in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. She's also starred in many movies, including her role as agent Maria Hill in Marvel movies.  She also knows a thing or two about resilience. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at age 25. She underwent multiple surgeries while starring in How I Met Your Mother and did not make her diagnosis public until several years later. Now, she's teamed up with Colgate because she wants kids to learn skills that can help them be resilient. She's concerned about the mental health health of young people following the pandemic, and she's launched a campaign to ensure young people are learning the skills they need to thrive during uncertain times. Some of the things she talks about today are why hope is such an important part of resilience, how nature improves her mental health, and why she apologizes to her kids (even though her parents never apologized to her).

Rewinding back to just a decade ago that seems unfathomable today where little indie pictures could still populate several hundred screens during their release, Mike introduces Dino to one of the more contemporary offerings in our canon in I Eat Movies #28: Dino's First Time - Jeff, Who Lives at Home (2011). Starring Jason Segel (TV's How I Met Your Mother) as a grieving stoner searching for a purpose in the signs that surround us everyday, this Duplass Brothers production finds Segel on a journey that finds him reconnecting with his estranged brother (Ed Helms, The Office) as they try to determine whether or not his wife is cheating on him. Along the way, their mother (played by the legendary Susan Sarandon, Thelma & Louise) is also longing for a connection not experienced since her husband passed away that will somehow lead this fractured family down a path they never could imagine. Will Mike's own emotional reaction to this charming little picture be enough to sway Dino? Find out in I Eat Movies #28: Dino's First Time - Jeff, Who Lives at Home (2011).

Azita Ghanizada is currently making her Broadway debut in "The Kite Runner" as Soraya, and is now the first woman of Afghan descent to originate a role on Broadway. As we learn, Azita's childhood life was far from ordinary and easy. Her family fled Afghanistan and ended up in the US as political asylum seekers. Similarly to what happens in “The Kite Runner”, she had trouble getting citizenship because she didn't have proper paperwork, including her birth certificate. She talks about growing up and learning how to speak English through watching tv shows and movies, which has also sparked her interest in acting. She shares how she pursued acting by buying a one-way ticket to Hollywood and ended up working at E! for a couple of years where she learned everything about show business. From finding a loophole in not getting jobs she used to get to being told she was white, Azita, together with other actors who joined her cause, successfully drafted a new SAG-AFTRA – AMPTP TV/Theatrical hiring contract for the first time in 37 years. She also talked about MENA Arts Advocacy Coalition, an organization she founded to support and educate. Azita reflects on the issues we still need to fight for such as inclusion, and why we have to create from our heart and operate from a place of truth and integrity. Azita Ghanizada is an Afghan American actress who began her on-air camera career as a commercial model. Her family fled Afghanistan to the US and were granted asylum to remain. She has appeared in numerous television series, including “How I Met Your Mother”, “Entourage”, “Veronica Mars”, “The Wedding Bells”, “NUMB3RS”, “Bones”, “Psych” and “Castle”. Her film credits include "Killroy Was Here", “Our Friend”, “We Broke Up”, “Draupadi Unleashed”, “Complete Unknown”, “X's & O's”, and “A Kiss on the Nose” where she received a film festival best actress nomination for her performance. She's the Founder and President of MENA Arts Advocacy Coalition, an organization she launched after helping build the MENA category into the SAG-AFTRA theatrical contracts. In 2020, she gave her first TEDx talk on the path to visibility in Hollywood. In addition to "Ballers," and Freeform's "Good Trouble," she's also got a recurring role on the CBS show, “United States of Al” and is currently performing in Broadway's "The Kite Runner" as Soraya.   Connect with Azita: Watch Azita's amazing TEDx Talk “The Invisible to Stereotyped: The Journey to Hollywood”  Twitter: @azitaghanizada Instagram: @azitagram MENA Arts Advocacy Connect with The Theatre Podcast: Support us on Patreon: Patreon.com/TheTheatrePodcast Twitter & Instagram: @theatre_podcast TikTok: @thetheatrepodcast Facebook.com/OfficialTheatrePodcast TheTheatrePodcast.com Alan's personal Instagram: @alanseales Email me at feedback@thetheatrepodcast.com. On this week's episode, Jared and Jordana are back in the studio talking about the art of eye foreplay and meeting new people when you go out alone. The first emailer asks about the infamous Hot/Crazy scale created by Barney on “How I Met Your Mother.” Are men really attracted to “crazy” women? And does the graph work if the genders are flipped? The Awkward Sexual Encounter includes a surprise visit from a landlord. The next email is from a listener wondering if she's the assh*le for being turned off by guys who go to therapy. Does being in therapy mean they're not ready to date? Are they bringing it up to be vulnerable or because they saw a TikTok saying that women want to date guys who go to therapy? Later, J&J finish the episode with a round of Red Flag or Deal Breaker about messy cars, dating profile updates, and gift shopping.
