Vikings Pro Bowl Running Back Dalvin Cook tells Rich what it was like to tear up the Steelers' defense on Monday Night Football for 205 yards despite playing with a torn labrum in his shoulder, why Minnesota has had big problems closing out games this season, and why he thinks the Vikes can still make the playoffs. Actor Clancy Brown joins the show in-studio and tells Rich congratulations on his Michigan win over Ohio State (even though it actually sounds pretty condescending), what his favorite scene from ‘The Shawshank Redemption' was, sings happy birthday to his 92-year-old mom, talks Showtime's ‘Dexter: New Blood' and ‘Billions,' and separates fact from fiction about his roles in ‘The Dukes of Hazzard,' ‘Bad Boys' with Sean Penn, ‘Highlander' and his discus throwing career at Northwestern in a round of ‘Celebrity True or False.' Dana and Tom welcome guest, Chris Hood (Digital Strategist and Host of the That Digital Show/check out ChrisHood.com) to the show to discuss what might be both the best Cable and Prison movie of all-time, The Shawshank Redemption, directed by Frank Darabont starring Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, Bob Gunton, and Clancy Brown. Plot Summary: In 1947 in Portland, Maine, banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover, and is sentenced to two consecutive life sentences at the Shawshank State Prison. He is befriended by Ellis "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman), an inmate and prison contraband smuggler serving a life sentence. Andy's sentence is more than life imprisonment as he has to also deal with Warden Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton), a pious and cruel man, Byron Hadley (Clancy Brown), a brutal and sadistic guard, and the other inmates. Andy attempts to adjust but faces repeated sexual assault from "The Sisters" as well as abuse from the guards. Using his skills as a banker, he eventually ends up with responsibilities beyond that of a prisoner. Andy and Red are eventually forced to face the difficulty of their situation and the fear of becoming “institutionalized,” a condition rendering them unable to survive outside the prison walls. Ultimately, will Andy and Red achieve redemption from their situation? Please follow, rate, and review the show wherever you get your podcasts. In this universe, Thor is an only child because Odin & Frigga never adopted Loki, who was instead raised by his biological parents as the Crown Prince of Jotunheim. Without Loki's influence, Thor grew to be a party boy instead of a hero. While his mother is away, Thor travels to Midgard to headline an intergalactic party and meets Dr. Jane Foster and Darcy Lewis, who tried to alert S.H.I.E.L.D. of Thor's arrival. Thor and his countless minions party hard all over Earth, creating problems for SHIELD and interim director Maria Hill. Loki and his Jotun entourage also join the party, encouraging Thor's reckless behavior. SHIELD enlists the aid of Captain Marvel to subdue Thor & the partygoers, but using her full power could do serious harm on earth. So Jane ultimately contacts Frigga via Heimdall, and Thor cleans up his global mess in time to avoid punishment from his mother. But a villainous version of Vision shows up at the very end, leaving us to wonder his motive. Episode 7 stars Jeffrey Wright, Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Tom Hiddleston, Jeff Goldblum, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Clark Gregg, Frank Grillo, Taika Waititi, Karen Gillan, Frank Grillo, Seth Green, Rachel House, Jaimie Alexander, Josette Eales, Alexandra Daniels, and Clancy Brown. Come with us listeners, back to the mist-shrouded 1980s, when hair was big and the Walkman was king, and sword and sorcery films were abundant. Why were there so many sword and sorcery films in that decade? Perhaps it was the lucky convergence of a number of things: the rise in popularity of Dungeons and Dragons, the prevalence of fantasy art such as the Hildebrandt Brothers, Boris Vallejo, and of course, Frazetta, the Marvel Conan comics, and other factors. While there were a number of terrible movies produced in the genre during this period, there were also some excellent or at least entertaining ones. Your crew will be discussing six of their favorites.Excalibur (1981) is a John Boorman film, and it looks absolutely beautiful. A retelling of the Arthurian legend, it has a dreamlike feeling, in an England that is moving from a magical realm to one ruled by Christianity. Highlights include Nichol Williamson as a very otherworldly Merlin, and a fantastic soundtrack that features classical music including Wagner. It is well worth seeing if you haven't!Highlander (1986) is something that started as a good idea, but suffered in the execution. Immortals scattered across the globe must battle until there is only one left -"There can be only one." When an immortal kills another immortal they gain the energies of that person and all the people they have killed. It had nice production design and an interesting cast that included Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, and Clancy Brown, but the story is lacking in parts. Still, it has its high points.Krull (1983) is an odd mix of science fiction and fantasy, with a Prince on a quest to save a Princess from an invading alien known as The Beast. He gathers a rag tag band of thugs, sorcerers and even a cyclops to help him on his rescue mission. He also acquires a magical weapon called the Glaive, which is essentially a large throwing star that always returns to his hand. Clearly influenced by Star Wars as well as fantasy films, Krull is definitely cheesy, but fun.Dragonslayer (1981) has what is still one of the best-looking dragons in all of cinema history, Vermithrax Pejorative. The film follows a young sorcerer's apprentice who tries to rid a village of a terrible dragon. This was a Disney production and featured work by ILM and Phil Tippett. The dragon was animated with Tippett's Go Motions process, and full-size pieces were also used (and a World War II flamethrower was used for the dragon's breath!). This is a cool and unique film well worth seeing.Conan the Barbarian (1982) is probably the premiere sword and sorcery film of the 80s. Nothing quite says sword and sorcery like Conan. Directed by John Milius and with a story from Oliver Stone, this film has a very hard, almost nihilistic edge. Conan sees his parents and village slaughtered in front of him as a child, is chained to the "wheel of pain" from adolescence into young adulthood, forced to become a gladiator, and freed to find his own way, in which he seeks revenge. It's hard to imagine anyone other than Arnold Schwarzenegger playing the Cimmerian. He was perfect for the role. The film also has terrific production values. It just looks like a fully realized world. The battles are exciting and most of the time it actually is Arnold in those scenes -they couldn't find a stunt man to double for him! If you haven't seen it, or it's been a while, check this out.Conan the Destroyer (1984) was the follow up to the first film and unlike the first film, this one was PG. It's obvious they wanted to reach a younger audience, but Conan loses some grit because of this. The production design also suffers some in this film. Still, there's much to enjoy, as this is a more straight-forward adventure where Conan builds a band of adventurers to obtain a magical item for a queen who offers to bring back his lost love, Valeria. Go into this one with reduced expectations and you'll probably get a kick out of it.We know there are many other sword and sorcery films from the 80s and we have certainly left out one of your favorites. Feel free to let us know what movie you would include on your list of favorites. For our Sensor Sweep, we have a completely unrelated item that Engineer Bob is excited about: the Godzilla pinball machine! Stern Pinball has partnered with Toho International to produce a line of Godzilla pinball machines. Godzilla and his kaiju allies fight off invading monsters like Ghidorah, Gigan, and Megalon. We are keeping this flying saucer spinning until the damn tractor beam falls off here for 2001: A Space Augusty. All month we are doing alien content and we hope you think it's... out of this world. ...don't worry, the jokes on the episode are better than that. This week, Producer C.H.A.D. swings by to talk about Paul Verhoeven's sometimes misinterpreted masterpiece, Starship Troopers. Verhoeven is obviously a master of satire, but it seems audiences mistook Johnny Rico as the American Jesus instead of a cautionary tale of the follies of fascism. Writer, Ed Neumeier, previously worked with Verhoeven on Robocop and this reunion is nothing short of gory, tongue in cheek bliss. We talk all about how Neumeier allegedly was working on an idea called, "Bug Hunt at Outpost 9," which was retconned to be an adaptation of Robert Anson Heinlein's 1959 novella. The film stars Casper Van Dien as the citizen hopeful, Johnny Rico. Van Dien uses the "Freddy Got Fingered" defense in explaining why the film was a financial flop. Find out why his reasoning is rather sound in the episode. Denise Richards plays Carmen Ibanez, who does not play any kind of guitar despite her namesake. Luckily, there is still a stringed instrument played by Jake Busey. That's right. It's the neon violin, which is tacky, terrible, and tantalizingly schlocky. Clancy Brown and Michael Ironside deliver what Jake contends are their top tier performances. Basil Poledouris does the music, and while not his most rousing score, it gets the job done. His daughter also gets a cameo. We talk about the sequels which vary wildly in quality from super bad to just kinda bad. Neumeier continued to direct, but even legendary effects maestro, Phil Tippett, helmed an installment. Did you ever watch Roughnecks? Because we briefly talk about that show too. Briefly. We spend a bit more grey matter and time on the Starship Troopers comic books, one of which was written by Transmetropolitan writer, Warren Ellis. In this episode, Apolonia talks with Clancy Brown, who is a physical therapist, a co-owner of a gym (Crossfit Endure in Windsor, Colorado), and the owner of a physical therapy and wellness company (Core Concept). Topics that Clancy and Apolonia discuss in this episode: * Clancy's view that CrossFit can sometimes be more helpful for people than a traditional healthcare setting. * Clancy's big decision to buy a gym with his wife. * How gyms can provide a sense of community for members. And how companies can learn about community from places such as gyms. * That people often don't need education as much as they need motivation and inspiration. This is where community comes in. Someone might know that they need to stop smoking and exercise more. But knowledge often isn't enough. Do they have a community supporting them and holding them accountable? * How the personal and the professional are intricately connected. Thanks so much to Clancy Brown for being a guest! There can be only one….podcast! And that podcast is Not A Bomb! On this immortal episode, Troy and Brad are once again joined by Josh from The VHS Files to discuss the 1986 action/sci-fi film - Highlander. This cult film from the 80's had a modest budget but failed to make an impact at the box office. However, VHS sales led to numerous sequels, TV shows, comics, books, and an anime film. You're in for a special treat as Brad and Troy do some pretty wonky Sean Connery and Christopher Lambert impressions as well as talk about rasslin', 80's music videos, New York vigilantes, Clancy “Mr. Krabs” Brown, The Gathering, and not so epic sword fights. We can't warn you enough - these impressions are bad….Brad and Troy need help!Highlander is directed by Russell Mulcahy and stars Christopher Lambert, Roxanne Hart, Clancy Brown and Sean Connery.Be sure to check out The VHS Files podcast! When I needed someone to discuss Highlander with me, I knew there could be only one - enter stage left Ben from the Film Floggers. It was great fun, and he was incredibly patient with me and saved me with his audio recordings, so a lot of love to him. The back and fourth of promoting the episode has been a blast too!!.Highlander though!!. We cover the music, the plot, the plot holes, the utterly bizarre casting, the sword fighting, the backflips, and we interweave our thoughts on the recently announced reboot, due to star Henry Cavil. We try to understand why its such a well loved movie and touch on the sequels, TV shows and cartoon show that are seen by many as a detriment to the original. Should there have been only one film!! Listen in to find out.Enjoy.Find all the film's that have been flogged here - https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/filmfloggers-1439626.Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/kwawwpodcast)

HEEEEERE WE ARE! It's one of the 80's most notorious cult classics and every mall samurai's fever dream, 1986's Highlander, which made no money but somehow spawned half a dozen sequels and four TV series! Directed by our old friend Russell Mulcahy and starring Matinee Manatee alumni Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, and Clancy Brown, along with newcomer Roxanne Hart, Highlander is just self-aware enough to make for some pretty spectacular schlock. It's got everything you could want! Queen! Swords! Very white sneakers! 80's lightning! Bad age makeup! And, an immortal elk? Sam shares wrestling facts, Ben rants about streaming services, both vow to watch the followups which probably neither of them do. Come float along and be bemused with us at this bizarre artifact of a more creative and, arguably, less demanding time. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/matinee-manatees/support

Andy and the latest candidate for "Dad of the Year" (who are we kidding, he's a shoo-in), Max Olson, discuss 2020 FBS stop rate standings. Which units topped college football in stopped drives percentage and why wasn't it Alabama (3:45)? Oklahoma is gradually building its defense into a top-tier clamp-down squadron (7:45). The Sooners weren't the only Big 12 school to frustrate offenses (13:30). What factors contributed to Iowa being the nation's best stop rate team (18:00)? Can LSU right last year's wrongs (20:30), and Mississippi State and Ole Miss are two intriguing SEC teams that, when/if their defenses improve, could cause problems (25:00). Amid the late-night diaper changes and feedings, you have to find a way to distract yourself. Max found that time-eater in "Billions". He and Andy rank their favorite characters from the series, plus, when Max's boy turns six, he'll be hearing a lot of Clancy Brown, that ol' salty dog (31:15). Clancy Brown (Shawshank, SpongeBob) joins me this week to share his personal experience with impostor syndrome throughout his career from its inception to highlights like The Shawshank Redemption. Clancy talks about how the industry had changed over the decades and how he feels blessed to have found voice acting for the presence it allows him to keep. We also get into some good ole Lex talk, how fame can drastically change a set, and even his personal experience working with the late great Sean Connery.
