Transformers: The Last Knight is the fifth film directed by Michael Bay about the storied toy line. The prior four were of varying quality, but The Last Knight stands out as by far the worst. A convoluted mess, it rewrites the legend of King Arthur, infusing the Autobots into the tale. This, of course, leads to a whole bunch of other nonsense, including Merlin's magical staff being of Cybertron origin. Anyway, as we rumble through this slog, we're treated to secret societies, moronic plot twists, and a smorgasbord of explosions and CGI bombast. It's a lot to digest, folks. Mercifully, though, The Last Knight's poor box office performance and abysmal reviews ensured this would be the last of the so-called Bayformers. Now, sit back, transform your taste buds with an Automatic IPA from Creature Comforts, and don't let Merlin's staff fall into Megatron's hands! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are sliding under giant robots and wielding Excalibur! This Week's Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – Every legend hides a secret! (0:00) Lingering Questions – Why? Just why?! (34:43) The "Sir Edmund Burton" Trivia Challenge – Chumpzilla challenges the field to trivia about the movie. (54:10) Recommendations – We offer our picks for the week and next up: We kick off our 90s Cult Flops series with Keanu Reeves' precursor to The Matrix and Cyberpunk 2077, Johnny Mnemonic! The Last Jedi, despite being a massive financial success, has been highly divisive since its release in December 2017. Sure, there are those who love and defend it, especially for its willingness to subvert expectations. Its detractors, though, often cite The Last Jedi's nonsensical plot and less than favorable depiction of beloved Star Wars hero Luke Skywalker for why they hate it. The pod tends to lean toward the latter. For all its exceptional visuals and some genuinely great Star Wars moments, The Last Jedi often feels like a muddled mess—less a sequel to a $2 billion movie, more a piece of odd fan fiction. Hence the divide between fans. As the middle part of a trilogy, The Last Jedi too often throws away or outright dismisses plot threads from The Force Awakens. When there was still a film to follow it, perhaps writing the characters into a narrative corner wasn't the best idea. Now, sit back, feel the Force with a Mind Haze Cosmic Crusher from Firestone Walker Brewing, and find the master codebreaker! The Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are seeing who can chug the most thala-siren milk! This Week's Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – Let the past die! (0:00) Lingering Questions – When subverting expectations goes wrong... (36:47) The "Jar of Snokes" Trivia Challenge – The Thunderous Wizard challenges the field to trivia about the movie. (1:03:51) Recommendations – We offer our picks for the week and next up: We finish our $1 billion+ follow up flops with a doozy of a dumpster fire, Transformers: The Last Knight! (1:12:11) And, as always, hit us up on Threads, Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram to check out all the interesting factoids from this week's episode!
The Transformers: Reactivate video game has been canceled, and it's yet another blow against Hasbro's robot franchise. This coming after the failure of Transformers One at the box office, and the underperformance of Rise of the Beasts before that. Transformers as a mainstream brand is effectively dead or dying, with the Earth Spark cartoon show's non-binary character controversy alienating kids and toy-buying parents. Hasbro's stock is underperforming long-term, with a recent dip due to Elon Musk rumors, despite overall market downturn. Transformers Reactivate game was cancelled after toy release due to being overly ambitious and likely including loot boxes and online components similar to Overwatch. Transformers brand troubles stem from Transformers: The Last Knight movie's box office failure and Transformers 1 movie's poor reception. IDW's Transformers comics cultivated a specific queer audience while alienating others, contributing to Hasbro's perceived "woke history" and product avoidance by parents. Transformers franchise's future is uncertain due to lack of confidence in games and Hasbro's desperate need for money.

This month, we are joined with a special guest, Tim Ryan, the King of Janitors, for a watch of Michael Bay's Arthurian epic, Transformers: The Last Knight, in which Mark Wahlberg teams up with a hot Oxford don who is apparently the last descendent of Merlin, and a selection of Autobots, to take on a corrupted Optimus Prime, using Excalibur. No, I'm not making this up. It's a complete nonsense movie. Starring Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Anthony Hopkins, Stanley Tucci, Laura Haddock, Isabela Moner, Jerrod Carmichael, Tony Hale, Mitch Pileggi, Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, Gemma Chan, John Goodman, and Omar Sy. Trying something new this week: You'll notice this episode has a cold open, where Stew and Justin have a bit of small talk before the episode begins. What do you think? Do you like it or should we just get right into it like we usually do? Let us know! Continuing with the Transformers franchise, the guys dive into the prequel/reboot starring everyone's favorite loveable mute Transformer, Bumblebee! Following on the heels of the disastrously bad Transformers: The Last Knight, Bumblebee reinvigorated the franchise by focusing on less Transformers and making the whole thing a bit more small scale (Chicago doesn't get destroyed again!). With a new cast and new, more classic, designs for the Transformers (and a new director), Bumblebee made Transformers fans happy, but is it truly the best Transformers film? Check out what the guys think and let us know what you think of Bumblebee! Cinema Heroes YouTube Instagram

In this episode Bunny is in the garden with Jim Carter. For Downtown Abbey fans, Jim is instantly recognisable as the butler Carson. Aside from being Carson he has starred in many tv series and films including ‘Shakespeare in Love', ‘The Golden Compass', ‘Transformers: The Last Knight', and ‘The Good Liar'. Most recently he starred as Abacus Crunch, in the 2023 film Wonka. Hear about how gardening is a brilliant hobby for actors to have, as it fits in well with down time between acting commitments, so much so that it united the actors on the set of Downton Abbey. Listen how Jim exploits his front garden, sitting in it and enjoy it, as well as this back garden. In England this is rare, as most front gardens have a street frontage and are lacking in the all important privacy. Hear Bunny's envy on seeing Jim's man cave, the most beautiful arranged shed, the envy of any gardener. And discover how Jim is trying to get gardening on the curriculum.

It took 9 weeks, but Ben & Matt finally disagree about the quality of a movie. For Mat, The Last Knight is one of the worst things he has ever seen in his entire life and potentially permanently altered his brain chemistry. Ben contends that while it's bad, it's not only not the worst Transformers movie, but not even the second worst! They discuss Cogman, 'Hot Rod' (it ain't right what they done to our boy), sozzled Merlin, poor Gemma Chan, awkwardly smushing two ideas together (again!) and generally become delirious. Thankfully, Mark had plenty of experience working on big action franchise films. Mark began his career as an assistant working on Bond films like ;TOMORROW NEVER DIES (1997) and THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH (1999), and also director Stephen Sommers' THE MUMMY (1999) and THE MUMMY RETURNS (2001). As a lead editor, Mark helmed the Avid for TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT (2017), MOWGLI: LEGEND OF THE JUNGLE (2018) and POKÉMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU (2019). Amongst all these big films, the critical highlight of his career would come in 2014, when Mark would win the Oscar for Best Film Editing for his work on GRAVITY (2013). The plot of JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION is this...Four years after the cataclysmic volcanic eruption on Isla Nublar and the Lockwood Estate incident, de-extinct dinosaurs freely roam the earth, causing environmental upheaval and human deaths. With government approval, Biosyn Genetics has established a dinosaur sanctuary in Italy's Dolomite Mountains where they conduct genomics research, ostensibly seeking groundbreaking pharmacological and agronomic applications. The film stars an ensemble cast including Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, DeWanda Wise, Mamoudou Athie, BD Wong, and Omar Sy. Dern, Goldblum, and Neill reprise their roles from the Jurassic Park trilogy, appearing together for the first time since the 1993 film JURASSIC PARK.
