Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! It's May, which means it's time for the AIPT Movies podcast's “Mayhem” series! Where we cover movies that kick ass in the literal sense! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and guest Tony Sedani discuss Brandon Lee's 1992 fusion of American and Hong Kong-style action movies, Rapid Fire!Bowling-related gun violence! A mild electrocution! Cops in suits! Goons with sunglasses! Characters cranked up to 11! A restaurant with an emergency mounted machine gun! An undercover operation in a bowling alley! Seedy Chicago locations! A shirtless running shot that may have inspired Michael Bay's Bad Boys! A very 90s musical score from the prolific Christopher Young, plus hair metal songs from the band Hardline! Impressive action set pieces that pay homage to Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan while affecting how action would be handled in movies to this very day! A cast of character actors that includes Al Leong, Tzi Ma, François Chau, a brief Richard Schiff cameo, and Powers Boothe in a rare good guy role! Brandon Lee doing a brief Clark Kent impression and delivering a charismatic performance that shows he could've been one of cinema's greatest action stars if given the chance! In addition, Alex and Tony share some spoiler-free thoughts on Sinners, Thunderbolts, The Accountant 2, and the newest action epic from the director of The Raid, the gritty Tom Hardy shoot-em-up, Havoc! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. This week is Marcey's pick for a film, her original pick was taken off of Tubi (WHYYYYYYYY?) so she had to go with a back-up pick and it's another video game adaptation for this month with Double Dragon (1994)! It may seem quite surprising that Double Dragon has not been picked before, considering it has been a main stay of the Tubi catalogue for years! So sit back, relax and enjoy the show!Double Dragon was directed by James Yukich, it stars Robert Patrick, Mark Dacascos, Scott Wolf, Alyssa Milano, Kristina Wagner, Julia Nickson, Al Leong, Jeff Imada with Nils Allen Stewart and Henry Kingi as Bo Abobo. If you have never listened to a commentary before and want to watch the film along with the podcast, here is how it works. You simply need to grab a copy of the film or load it up on Tubi (you may need alcohol), and sync up the podcast audio with the film. We will tell you when to press and you follow along, it is that easy! Because we have watched the films on Tubi, it is a free service and there are ads, however we will give a warning when it comes up, so you can pause the film and provide time stamps to keep in sync.Highlights include:* How dare Tubi remove a movie before we can record the episode!* Indeed it is about time Double Dragon was picked for this show!* Everyone is confused about the relationship between Satori and the Lee brothers!* Vanilla Ice and the T-1000 combined makes Robert Patrick as Koga Shuko!* Kraven is making a Broadway musical starring animals!* Louise is still in jail having weird wrestling matches!* Why did they turn Bo Abobo into a giant testicle?* How many bad jokes were made this episode?* Plus much, much more!Check out The Super Network on Patreon to gain early access to The Tubi Tuesdays Podcast!DISCLAIMER: This audio commentary isn't meant to be taken seriously, it is just a humourous look at a film. Actors that we talk about include Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall, Dennis Dun, Victor Wong, James Hong, Danny Trejo, He Huy Quan, Al Leong (here's his wedding announcement), Dennis Quaid, Harrison Ford, Jason Mantzoukas, Tom Cruise, Jackie Chan and Rodney Dangerfield. Other movies discussed include Everything Everywhere All at Once, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Overboard (which Phil thinks is really indefensible because Kurt Russell's character brainwashes Goldie Hawn's; “it's a Rapemantic comedy”), Minority Report, Dreamscape (filmed in Stockton, CA), Innerspace, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Golden Child, Friday, Caddyshack, The Matrix, Trading Places, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Flashdance, The Truman Show, The Wizard of Oz, Howard the Duck and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Jack Burton is a very influential protagonist, maybe even more so than Snake Plissken. He's sort of John Wayne as a buffoon. Bruce Willis' persona owes something to Jack Burton. If you want to hear an even more in-depth discussion of Big Trouble in Little China, check out this episode of the Blank Check podcast. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson owns the remake rights to Big Trouble in Little China and makes noises about a remake from time to time. John Carpenter's soundtrack (and especially the theme song) are a must-listen. Here's the New York Magazine article in which Jody Rosen first coined the term “Bro-Country.” Here's a history of the Country laundry-list song. Dr. Suess' pants with no one inside them are from the last story in the Sneetches book. “Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line is maybe the ur-text of Bro-Country. Or– going further back– in could be either “Honky Tonkin'” or “Jambalaya” by Hank Williams. Other songs discussed by include “Big Green Tractor” and “Dirt Road Anthem” by Jason Aldean, “Sand in My Boots” by Morgan Wallen, “Jack & Diane” by John Mellencamp, “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” by Trace Adkins, “Dilemma” by Nelly w/ Kelly Rowland, “If That Ain't Country” by David Allan Coe, “That's My Kind of Night” by Luke Brian, “Friday” by Rebecca Black, “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight” by Hank Williams Jr., “If You've Got the Money, I've Got the Time” by Lefty Frizzell, “Friends In Low Places” by Garth Brooks, “Tulsa Time” by Don Williams, “Boys Round Here” by Blake Shelton, “New Truck” by Dylan Scott, “Beer With My Friends” by Shy Carter, “Beer” and “Turned Up On the Weekend” by Branchez & Big Wet, “American Pie” by Don McLean, “Do You Know the Way to San Jose” by Dionne Warwick, and “Santa Baby” by Eartha Kitt. Searching For Atticus

New York cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) ruins a perfectly good Christmas Eve in Los Angeles for Hans Gruber and his friends (Alan Rickman, Alexander Godunov & Al Leong among others) - at least that's how director John McTiernan is said to have approached this Christmas classic.Rich, Blake & Kofi discuss why Die Hard IS a Christmas movie; how intense experiences can engender quick bonds between men; and how we cast people as villains or allies in our own lives. Happy Holidays!

That's right the Facebook group voted so Charlie and Dan kinda listened as they break down the cultural icon that Die Hard became instead of a play by play of a movie everyone has seen. The guys talk about their earliest memories of seeing the movie as well as the impact it had on the action genre itself moving forward. So take off your shoes, make fists with your toes, and sit back and enjoy a holiday treat as you hide from the family this Christmas!!!   P.S...... Al Leong is in this movie!!!!!! It has taken six years for director James Nunn to bring his one-take, real-time action movie to the screen. During that time, 'one-shot' movies like 'Birdman' and '1917' have not only dominated at the box office, but they have also been lauded by critics. In many ways, Nunn's intense, relentless thriller, 'One Shot' - which is released theatrically and on VOD services in the USA on 5 November 2021 courtesy of Screen Media Films - is an even more remarkable achievement, considering its comparatively low-budget and 20-day shooting schedule ('1917', by comparison, was made in 65 days). Nunn puts the success of the film down to a huge amount of preparation, and an incredibly hard-working cast and crew - especially its leading actor, Scott Adkins, who is intimately followed through every long-take, moving from dialogue scenes to gun battles, knife fights, explosions and punch-ups. As a technical feat, there's nothing quite like it in the DTV action world. In this conversation, James explores the film's many great performances - from Adkins to co-stars Ashley Greene Khoury, Ryan Phillippe, and the MMA fighter Jess Liaudin - and lifts the lid on how it was made. Lee Charles - "the Al Leong of British cinema", according to fight choreographer Tim Man - has fought on-screen with some of the world's biggest action stars. He took a clobbering from Dave Bautista in 'Final Score' (2018), and tired to take out Sope Dirisu as 'Lenn the Butcher' in an iconic, grisly battle scene in the TV show, 'Gangs of London', co-created by 'The Raid's Gareth Evans. His role as a French mercenary in 'One Shot' marks another opportunity for him to go toe-to-toe with Scott Adkins - the duo worked together on Nunn's previous Adkins flicks, 'Green Street 3: Never Back Down' (2013) and 'Eliminators' (2016), plus roles in 'Accident Man' (2018) and 'Avengement' (2019). Charles is the walking embodiment of his own life motto - that anything is achievable through hard work. He's currently working with his childhood hero, Sylvester Stallone, on the all-star action sequel, 'The Expendables 4'. We discuss his multifaceted life and career; from Everton FC to six-time World Kickboxing Champion, training with Benny "The Jet" Urquidez and making it in the movies. WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD *Each season we will be doing a bonus episode in which we will look at a film that is in some way connected to the main season. Be it through a co-star, director or theme. In this first one we will be looking at "Rapid Fire" which was directed by "Marked for Death" director Dwight H. Little. Over course of the episode you will hear Scott and Kyle merrily discover way more Seaglian connections than they thought this movie had in the first place and talk about how this might be one of the 90s most underrated and underseen action movies. As well as lamenting the fact that we were robbed of having more Brandon Lee action by his tragically young death. Elsewhere you can hear a lot of chat about this movies love for Brandon Lee's abs, our surprise at Powers Boothe being a good guy and our complete lack of surprise at Nick Mancuso being the exact character you expect him to be. As well as discussing how Al Leong truly is one of the all time best henchmen in action cinema history. "All '90s Action, All The Time" is produced by Scott Murphy, Kyle Hintz and Craig Draheim. Music by Elyssa Vulpes. Editing by Scott Murphy.

It's cult-classic time once again here on Precinct 13, and this week, Chris and Nick are jumping aboard the Porkchop Express for part one of a two-part discussion of Carpenter's mid-eighties action-comedy Big Trouble in Little China. You know the deal: Kurt Russell stars as trucker Jack Burton in a wildly colorful movie that goes so far over-the-top with its martial arts and mystical mayhem, it's almost too much to absorb in a single sitting. For part one of our exploration of Big Trouble, we take a look at the film's pre-production challenges (at one point, this movie was going to fit into another genre entirely!), the introduction of Russell's bumbling hero and his much-more-competent companions, and the influence of both Hong Kong action cinema and the silent comedy tradition. Oh, and there's also another iconic Carpenter musical score, cinematographer Dean Cundey's dazzling return to the filmography, a future Sex and the City  co-star who lands one of the best character names in the Carpenter canon... We've got a lot to talk about with this one (and, don't worry, we promise we'll get to Al Leong next episode!).
