James Sykes, President and CEO of Baselode Energy (TSX.V:FIND – OTC:BSENF) joins me for an exploration update from the Catharsis Uranium Project, Hook Uranium Project and Ackio Target, and the Bear Uranium Project; all in the Athabasca Basin, of Saskatchewan. We start off reviewing the unique “Athabasca 2.0” geological approach to exploration in areas along known mineralized trends, which have had limited to no drilling previously. Next we focus on the recent drill assays returned from Catharsis with 11 drill holes completed for 2,837 meters covering six different target areas, and where follow-up drilling will be focused. Then we reviewed the 7,500 meters of drilling from last year at the Hook Uranium Project, focused at the Akio Target around Pod 7 and Pod 4, and James outlined that there are 12,000 meters planned for follow-up in 2024 drilling. Additionally, there are 4,000 meters planned for regionally focused drilling on making a new uranium discovery across the Hook Project land package. Wrapping up we looked ahead to the inaugural 1,500 meter drill program at the Bear Project that starts in the next few weeks. There will be lots of drilling news over the course of 2024. Türkiye and Libya have signed a series of preliminary deals that include the potential exploration of hydrocarbons in Libya's territorial waters. Over the past decade, deposits of oil and natural gas have been discovered in the Eastern Mediterranean. Several countries have competing claims in those energy rich waters, with disputes over exploration rights being a major flashpoint. Türkiye's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, signed the memorandum of understanding with his Libyan counterpart Najla Mangoush in Tripoli. Cavusolgu said the exploration of hydrocarbons will take place on Libyan soil and territorial waters, involving companies from both countries. He also emphasized that the deal was between two sovereign states, and that third countries had no right to interfere. Libya's foreign minister from the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity, said the deal was crucial amid the global energy crisis. Libya, which is split between rival governments based in the east and west, has been trying to hold national elections to unify the country. But frequent clashes and fears of a return to a civil war have dashed hopes of a peaceful vote. How much can we really know about how levels of marine noise affects marine mammals, and other creatures? Consider the impact of propellors, underwater drilling, shipping, fishing, dredging, explosions, missiles and bombs for a start. But the good news is that concern about this is gathering momentum at a global level.

James Sykes, the Vice President of Exploration and Development with Appia Energy provides an update on the 2018 exploration plans for the company’s Alces Lake Rare Earth Element property. Alces Lake has already demonstrated some of the highest-grade REE occurrences known in Saskatchewan with grades comparable to those encountered in other world-class deposits. REE supply is scarce outside of China but is critical for use in magnets and batteries. The electrical vehicle revolution and the corresponding increase in the number of permanent magnet motors is a main driver of the demand for increased and a more jurisdictionally-stable supply of Rare Earth Elements. Appia is a Canadian uranium and rare earth Exploration and Development Company with properties in Elliot Lake Ontario and in the Athabasca Basin is Saskatchewan. Ticker symbol is API on the CSE and APAAF on the OTC in the States. Appia also trades under the symbol AOI on the German exchanges in Frankfort, Munich and Berlin. Find more information about the company at www.AppiaEnergy.ca Over the past decade, James Sykes has been directly and indirectly involved with the discovery of over 450 M lbs. of U3O8 in the Athabasca Basin. Most notably, James was the chief geologist leading the exploration program which resulted in NexGen’s Arrow discovery.

China and Russia are giant countries whose recent economic and energy experience could hardly be more different: in the one, unprecedentedly rapid industrialisation has sent its share of world primary energy consumption soaring from 7 to 20 percent since 1985 (overtaking the USA); in the other the collapse of centrally planned industry has reduced its share from 11 to 6 percent during the same period. China has tried to exploit its modest energy endowments sparingly, while forging a world-wide supply structure that prevents it from being deprived of the imports its economy needs. Russia meanwhile has become a major oil and gas exporter, possessing more than 20 percent of the world’s gas reserves, part of which it is eager to sell to China. Inevitably, therefore, energy is at the centre of relations between these two countries. Keun-Wook Paik is a specialist on Northeast Asia’s oil and gas issues, in particular Sino-Russian oil and gas cooperation, China’s natural gas industry, and DPRK’s offshore oil exploration. Dr Paik is a senior research fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies and is also an associate fellow, Energy, Environment and Development Programme, Chatham House. He is the author of Gas and Oil in Northeast Asia: Policies, Projects and Prospects (London: Royal Institute of International Affairs, 1995), and co-author/supervisor of China Natural Gas Report (China OGP, Xinhua News Agency & RIIA, 1998). The study on China’s gas expansion was done in 2004 and the edited version was published by Chatham House in 2005. Dr Paik has contributed well over 35 papers to Energy Policy, Journal of Energy and Development, Geopolitics of Energy, The Pacific Review, Energy Exploration & Exploitation, Oil & Gas Journal, Petroleum Economist, Pipeline and Gas Technology, FT Asia Gas Report, China Daily Business Weekly, China Brief, The World Today, RIIA Briefing papers, and Asia-Pacific Review. He served as advisor to Sin-Russian Oil and Gas Cooepration Committee, CNPC during March 1998-Decmber 1999 and advisor to Chairman of the Government, Sakha Republic during November 2000-November 2002. He also served as consultant for the establishment of UNDP GTI’s Energy Board and the Energy Expert Council during the first half of 2006.

It's hard to imagine Texas without the petroleum industry, and it's equally as difficult to picture Texas without a state-of-the art transportation system. In theory, the two work together, the highways allowing access to petroleum exploration and exploitation, which in turn brings money to Texas for more roads. Only that's not quite how it works in practice. In fact, the energy sector of the Texas economy, which now includes wind energy, is growing so quickly that the highway system is having trouble keeping up with repairs, let alone improvements and expansion. That reality prompted TxDOT's executive director, Phil Wilson, to take the lead in forming the Task Force on Texas' Energy Sector Roadway Needs in March of this year, with the stated goals of bringing together state agencies, local governments and the energy industry to improve not only the conditions of the roadways impacted by the energy sector, but the safety and longevity of those roads as well. For more information on the task force and its mission, log on to www.roadsfortexasenergy.com.
