Streaming kommt bisher vor allem im Videobereich zum Einsatz. Jetzt drängt die Technologie zunehmend auch in die Videospiel-Welt. Was hat das für Folgen für den Gaming-Markt? Die Idee des Games-Streaming ist simpel: Die Videospiele werden nicht auf einer dedizierten Plattform vor Ort berechnet. Stattdessen wird lediglich das Bild der Spiele übertragen, die eigentliche Berechnung führen Computer in Serverzentren durch. Wichtigste Voraussetzung ist eine sehr gute Infrastruktur vor Ort, mindestens fünf Mbit sind Pflicht, bei technisch höherwertigeren Angeboten mit sind mindestens 25 Mbit nötig. Nahezu alle großen Plattformen in der Videospielindustrie experimentieren mit Streaming-Technologien. Sony hat mit Playstation Now bereits ein Produkt auf dem Markt, ebenso wie der Grafikkartenhersteller Nvidia. Andere wie Microsoft sind noch im Experimentiermodus. Und neue Player drängen in den Markt: So hat Google angekündigt, zur Games Developer Conference ein Game-Streaming-Produkt vorzustellen. Print-Chefredakteur Luca Caracciolo und Online-Redaktionsleiter Sébastien Bonset sprechen über die technischen Vor- und Nachteile der Streaming-Technologie und diskutieren die Frage, wie Game-Streaming die Spiele selbst verändern könnte.
