Lee, a right winger, began his career with Bury in 1986. In five years at Gigg Lane, he made just over 200 league appearances and scored 35 goals.Southampton came in for his services in 1991 with a successful £350,000 bid. Lee's stay on the south coast was short-lived, however; after only twenty appearances he returned to the north-west with Bolton Wanderers in a one-month loan deal. In December 1992, Bolton made the move permanent in a £275,000 deal.[2]Lee remained at Burnden Park for five years, clocking up 147 appearances and scoring sixteen goals. Whilst at Bolton he played in the 1995 League Cup Final. In 1997, he joined Wigan Athletic for £250,000, and he maintained his goalscoring touch, netting eleven goals during his three years with the Latics. Whilst at Wigan he played in the final as a substitute as they won the 1998–99 Football League Trophy.[3]Lee joined Blackpool on loan in 1999, before making a permanent move to Carlisle United on a non-contract basis.A year later, the midfielder joined non-league side Morecambe, with whom he finished his career. Bury's expulsion from the EFL in August 2019 is one of English football's saddest stories and for no one more so than the club's fans, as writer and author James Bentley can testify to. In this episode James, who was born and bred in Bury and went to his first game in 1988, talks about what happened to the club he loved and how it felt like a death. James speaks with raw emotion, and that's also the case when he moves onto discussing Bury AFC, the phoenix club that was formed earlier this year and has led to a split in Bury's fanbase. James is among those who has got behind the new team but, as he explains, it was not an easy decision and one that has also led to pain and sadness. On a much happier note, James also chats about his many years supporting Bury - those magic nights at the magnificent Gigg Lane as well as those cracking away days, none more special than a trip to Bolton in 2002 that led to eating fried chicken at Franz Carr's dad's place. So download, listen and love. And after you have, please Rate and Review. It would mean a lot. Cheers!

Kelly Cates is joined by Steve Crossman and BBC Radio Manchester’s Mike Minay to react to the news that Bury Football Club has been expelled from the Football League. A takeover deal to buy Bury FC collapsed earlier on Tuesday and the club couldn’t prove to the EFL that it had the funds to continue or find a new buyer before the deadline of 5pm. The news broke at 11pm that the club had been expelled from the Football League and we were there to get the reaction from emotional fans who were still at Gigg Lane in the hope their club could be saved. We also discuss the news that Bolton Wanderers has been given an extension of 14 days, but as Mike explains, they could be the second club to be expelled from the Football League, sooner rather than later.
Welcome to your latest podcast on the Blood Red channel with a man who is not only a big Liverpool fan, but also one of the best young managers in the Football League, Ryan Lowe. Now you may remember the podcast we did with Ryan last summer before his Bury side took on his beloved Reds in a pre-season friendly at Gigg Lane. Well it turned out the words Jurgen Klopp said to the 40-year-old after the match helped inspire what was an incredible season for the Shakers. Bury won promotion to League One after scoring an impressive 82 goals in 46 games. But what made that achievement all the more remarkable was the off-the-field problems that Ryan, his coaching team and his players had to deal with. And sadly for Bury, it’s got much, much worse since then. They’ve been deducted 12 points, their opening game of the new League One season has been suspended, and there is a real threat they could be expelled from the Football League. Ryan took the reluctant but understandable decision to leave for Plymouth Argyle, who will be looking to win immediate promotion back to League One this season. So, in a catch-up with Paul Wheelock, Ryan not only talks about his new job and his time at Bury, but also the support Jurgen Klopp has shown him since their first meeting 12 months ago, a shock visit from Kenny Dalglish, and what it was like watching Liverpool be crowned champions of Europe for the sixth time as a fan in Madrid. Enjoy! For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy
The wait is over for supporters of Plymouth Argyle with a new man in charge following the appointment of Ryan Lowe as first team manager last week. The 40-year-old Liverpudlian leaves Bury, who he guided to promotion from League Two last season, to take over the job at Home Park with the Pilgrims believed to have paid £150,000 to settle his contract at Gigg Lane. It is certainly a signal of Simon Hallett's intent after taking ownership of the Home Park boardroom, so Chris Errington and Jak Ball join Stuart James to discuss the appointment and what could happen next for Argyle For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy
