On this week's show, the YP's football writing team of Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall join host Phil Harrison to salute the gallant efforts of our League One clubs as they took on Premier League opposition in the third round of the League Cup.Barnsley, Huddersfield Town, Doncaster Rovers and Bradford City all had giant-killing opportunities but, ultimately, it proved beyond them, despite some impressive performances. It is in League One where Yorkshire continues to thrive, though, Bradford City going top of the table after beating leaders Cardiff City, while Barnsley, Huddersfield Town and Doncaster Rovers remain close behind. At the other end of the table, we ask whether there is cause for concern at the New York Stadium after Rotherham United's 1-0 defeat at home to Stockport saw the Millers drop into the bottom three. We salutes Leeds United's first away win of their Premier League season and their first goals from open play since their return to the top-flight.In the Championship Middlesbrough moved four points, while Hull City – at home to Southampton – and Sheffield Wednesday – on the road at Portsmouth – recorded impressive wins. But there are still major causes for concern at Bramall Lane after Chris Wilder's first game in charge saw the Blades extend their losing start to the season to six games, conceding late on to lose 1-0 at home to Charlton.

Football Ruined My Life

Was 1985 English football's darkest year?  There could be a number of nominations for this much coveted title but 1985 contained the tragedies of Heysel Stadium and the Bradford City fire.  Weeks before these events the sixth round FA Cup replay between Luton Town and Millwall degenerated into a shocking riot.  The average attendance at a Division One match in 1972 had been over 30,000.  By 1985 that had slumped to just 18,374.  No British team had qualified for the Euros in France in 1984 so no British television channel bothered to cover it, so low was the interest in the game.  Football in 1985 said the Sunday Times was a slum sport played in slum stadiums and increasingly watched by slum people.  Jim White, Colin Shindler and Jon Holmes discuss whether or not that withering verdict was justified. Bradford is this year's UK City of Culture - but what does food have to do with it? Sheila Dillon visits the city to meet market traders, chefs and restaurateurs to find out how its industrial past has influenced the thriving food culture of today. She visits Bradford's St James wholesale market to discover how the Asian restaurant trade has been integral to the market's survival, before eating breakfast at The Sweet Centre, which serves the same Kashmiri breakfast speciality as it did for millworkers in the 60s. Two food projects are harnessing the vibrant multicultural nature of Bradford as part of its City of Culture celebrations. The Bradford Selection, orchestrated by artists Sonia Sandhu and Harry Jelley, tells the stories of Bradford communities through a series of biscuits. Meet My Mothers is a recipe book project representing the diverse food cultures in Bradford, as participant coordinator Aamta Waheed tells Sheila at the Women Zone community centre. Renowned Yorkshire food historian Peter Brears meets Sheila for a tea and some traditional pork ‘savoury duck' to talk about pre-industrial food of the Bradford district. Meanwhile, on BBC One, Harry Virdee is the eponymous detective star of thriller series Virdee, written by Bradford native A.A.Dhand. Sheila speaks to the bestselling author to find out how he wrote specific south Asian food and drink traditions into the series and his own childhood food memories of growing up in the city. How important is the city's food history, economics and culture to its hopes for regeneration? Shanaz Gulzar, creative director of Bradford 2025, summarises the city's belief in food as social cohesion and the confidence that the city feels after winning the title. Presenter: Sheila Dillon Producer: Nina Pullman
