Welcome to Episode 12 where Sara talks to Ireland’s most successful impressionist and satirist Mario Rosenstock. Mario first came to our attention as Dr. David Hanlon in Glenroe, a budding actor back in the day! He is now of course known as the creator of Gift Grub on Today FM’s Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show. It is now the longest-running breakfast show in Irish radio history. In that time Gift Grub has become the benchmark for topical and wittily surreal comedy satire. Its success has led to thirteen best-selling albums, half-a-million record sales and three hit TV series (The Mario Rosenstock show). Mario has also just launched his own podcast 'The Mario Rosenstock Podcast' which is available to listen now too, with his first guest, his work wife of 22 years - Ian Dempsey! Today is all about looking back on love and marriage! In that time Mario also fell in love and got married to Blaithnaid in the Trinity College Chapel and they now have two children together Dash and Bellamy. They met in The Kitchen nightclub in Dublin where Mario self confesses to have the most arrogant story of telling her she was a bad kisser and he would have to teach her! He said he was a major handful back in the day but they did end up dating from there on and things got serious. He proposed to Blaithnaid in Amsterdam where they decided to go to a diamond factory to find the right diamond for the engagement ring. He said he was not the main planner of the wedding event so the finer details may not be in Mario`s recollection! This is one belter of an episode, Mario imparts what he has learned from married life - how to be a better husband, how to parent and learning how to compromise. There are some quality moments ahead (and an unexpected Prime Time visitor?). Buckle in and enjoy this one!

EPISODE 59 AND FEELIN' FINE!Most 'normals' like to celebrate the new year on the 1st of January but real coolies like us know that the 12th of February is when it really gets going, OF COURSE. It is for that reason that I have chosen this day to release the first 2019 episode of The 80%. To kick off the new, real new year, I had to get someone completely brilliant and utterly charming for your teeny earbuds to enjoy and friends, I have done just that. May I present to you actor, writer, performer and star of the hugely successful Gift Grub on Today FM, Mr Mario Rosenstock. Readers, it was like looking in a mirror. Mario grew up in Waterford, home of the blaa but eventually made his way up to Dublin, home of Old Mr Brennan and never left. His first acting role was in Death of a Salesmen in secondary school and from then on he was bitten by the bug. By the time he got to Trinataaay Cawwwwledge (Trinity College) he acted his tiny tush off in several Player's Productions and was soon signed to the Lisa Richard's Agency, now one of Ireland's biggest agencies. Before long he was cast in Glenroe as dashing Dr. David Hanlon, starred opposite Mia Farrow and played in The Abbey. However, it wasn't until a small gig came up on Today FM, twenty years ago now, that brought Mario the success he still enjoys today. We talked about early burnout when he started Gift Grub, family tensions, the payoff that making people laugh brings and building your own raft to get through this little thing called life (Joan Bruton voice).I hope you enjoy our chat with Mario and if you do, leave a review! There's a strong possibility you will have seen my mate Enda on either TV, stage or cinema. He was a constant in a lot of our childhood's as Rev. Black in Glenroe or in most recent times Garda PJ in Damo & Ivor.Enda currently stars in RTE's "Fair City" and Amy Huberman's "Striking Out".A fine example of a Roscommon man, Enda's brilliant stories meant this episode could have gone on for hours if we had had the time.A man of powerful craic, talent and banter.
