Lecturas y videos recomendados:Libro: Gawande, A. American Trade Unions and IrelandLast Friday I spent an enjoyable couple of hours in the company of my good friend American Trade Union leader John Samuelson and the staff of Áras Uí Chonghaile and Fáilte Feirste Thiar – the west Belfast Tourist Board. Unbeknownst to John both organisations had agreed to name one of the Áras rooms after himself and a former Transport Workers Union, (TWU) President Mike Quill. Keeping the Faith for UnityThis Easter the Good Friday Agreement is 28 years old. It only seems like yesterday that we were all gathered in Castle Buildings wondering if David Trimble was going to take the leap. He hadn't spoken to Sinn Féin at any time during the negotiations – except on one occasion when I said hello to him in the toilet and he told me to grow up. But on Friday 10 April 1998 he signed up to the Agreement. It was a defining moment in our recent history. It was a compromise between conflicting political positions. For the first time since partition the Agreement brought peace, stability and hope, and the opportunity for a better future for all the people of the island of Ireland. Terry ‘Cruncher O'NeillIt was the profound sadness that I heard on Sunday of the death of my friend and comrade Terry ‘Cruncher' O'Neill. Cruncher was an incomparable singer of Irish songs of resistance. Type his name into google and you Will discover videos and audio recordings of Cruncher singing. My memory is full of occasions when he enthralled an audience. There is a great Frankie Quinn photo of himself, Joe Cahill, me and Gerry Kelly singing ‘Something Inside So Strong' at the tops of our voices outside the old Sevastopol Street office. Cleaky is in the foreground looking after us. Gabriel Rosenstock. As we go to press I am also sorry to hear of the death of Gabriel Rosenstock, poet, play wright, haikuist and writer. Gabriel was one of the leading lights of Irish language literature. He was the author and translator of more than 180 books and publisher of over 400.

So we've got a very different kind of episode for you this time. A few weeks ago Karl Deeter joined me here on the show and, after we had finished recording, he hit me with an idea – would I be up for the tables being turned, and me being the guest on my own podcast? And as evidenced by what you're about to hear, I said yes!I'm definitely little too close to it to have a sense of how it went or what you're going to think, so I guess I'm just going to let you have a listen and see for yourself. Hopefully you trust that at this stage, we like to put on a good show here on the podcast and you'll always hear something that might give you a laugh, something new to think about, or a little bit of escape to wind down from a tough week. [REBROADCAST FROM April 8, 2025] In the Emmy nominated series "Dying for Sex," a woman diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer decides to end her marriage to go on a journey of sexual self-discovery. The series stars Michelle Williams as Molly and Emmy nominated actor Jenny Slate as her friend Nikki. The show is based on a podcast of the same name by Nikki Boyer. Slate and the series co-creator, writer, and executive producer Kim Rosenstock discuss the series, which is streaming now on FX on Hulu.
Today on Script Apart, the next in our run of conversations with nominees for this year's Emmy Awards. Dying For Sex – created by Liz Meriwether and my guest today, Kim Rosenstock – is an adaptation of the popular Wondry podcast series of the same name about one Molly Kochan – a writer diagnosed with terminal cancer, who documents her sexual reawakening in the aftermath of that diagnosis. Played in the show by Michelle Williams, Molly leaves her husband and embarks on an odyssey of eroticism that forces her to confront a childhood trauma that has stalked her her entire adult life. Did I mention this is, at least in part, a comedy? At least, I laughed constantly throughout this series, which is tender and terrifically funny in equal measure, and well deserving of its Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. In the spoiler conversation you're about to hear, Kim breaks down all the key scenes and characters from the show, getting into how, ironically, this is deep down a story about healing. We contemplate what it is about death that as a society we can't help but turn away from – and why we stand to benefit from staring it straight in the eye with our pop culture, rather than flinching away from the abyss it can resemble. You'll hear about why the show invented the neighbour character played by Rob Delaney in the series, as an act almost of wish fulfilment, giving Molly the chance to fall in love that she was denied in real life – and how working on this series affected Kim herself. "Dying For Sex" is an American comedy-drama miniseries based loosely on the real-life experiences of Molly Kochan (Michelle Williams) and written by Liz Meriwether and Kim Rosenstock; the show depicts her being diagnosed with terminal cancer and leaving her husband in search of an orgasm. It has received positive reviews for Williams and Jenny Slate's performances, the direction from Shannon Murphy, and sharp writing. Murphy, Meriwether, and Rosenstock were all kind enough to spend some time speaking with us about their work on the miniseries, which you can listen to below. JOIN TSL WORKSHOPS: https://tslworkshops.circle.so This week, we're joined by Kim Rosenstock (Dying for Sex) to explore how a complicated protagonist with a simple goal drives interesting, rich, and emotionally resonant storytelling. Through the lens of her deeply personal and genre-blending show, which she co-crated with Liz Merriwether, Kim shares how clarity of objective gave Dying for Sex its emotional depth, tonal range, and narrative momentum — and why writers shouldn't be afraid to keep their characters' goals simple, even when the journey is anything but. On today's episode of Write On, we chat with Kim Rosenstock, co-creator and co-showrunner for the new limited series, Dying For Sex, starring Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate and Sissy Spacek. Based on a true story, Dying for Sex is about a woman diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer who abandons her husband of 15 years to begin a journey of sexual discovery. Rosenstock talks about her background as a playwright, nearly missing out on the opportunity to write for the hit show New Girl, and navigating the complicated tone of Dying For Sex that balances a woman having unconventional, often hilarious sexual escapades with facing her own mortality. “We need humor the most as human beings, so don't be afraid of injecting humor and joy and levity into these sort of subject matters… If you have the impulse to make it funny or to make it feel joyful or hopeful, lean into that and don't be afraid of it. I also think that is what makes it feel real, actually. To me, that makes it feel more honest, not the other way around… I think what's exciting is that audiences are embracing these kinds of stories that can kind of go into darker and lighter places at the same time,” says Rosenstock about mixing joy and sadness in Dying For Sex. To hear more, listen to the podcast. Please be advised the interview includes discussion of sexual abuse. Dying for Sex is currently streaming on Hulu.

“Dumbfounded, downtrodden and dejected/Crestfallen, grief-stricken and exhausted.” All hail the king of anxiety. Pop-punk legend Jeff Rosenstock mutated his career for the…at least third time with a wallop of hyper-catchy, hyper-depressing albums. Anthemic to the core, POST- was the grandest of them all, a personal and political dissection in the wake of Trump's election. No one gets out unscathed, especially not Rosenstock. It's hard too say if there's hope ringing out of the album, but at the very least it's one of the finest albums to scream along to this decade. So listen to our interview with Rosenstock, read our thoughts on POST- and see why it's one of the best of the 10s. “‘Aw yeah that was the best!' No it wasn't! I was sad then too!” — Jeff Rosenstock

As a queer, polyamorous, white-presenting Nuyorican Jew, Yael has always been interested in understanding the multi-level experiences of individuals. Through her company, she facilitates workshops, develops curriculum, offers Identity Exploration Coaching, and publishes narratives often left out of mainstream publishing. An upcoming publication is a coffee-table book representing the narratives and images from the photo-interview series, the Diverse Bodies Project, of which she is a founding member. Yael has been engaged in workshop development and facilitation since she joined the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) as a teen peer reproductive rights educator at 15 years old. Since then, she has served as an educator with children ranging from 10 months old to adults in their 70s with different organizations and communities. In her work as first Program Coordinator, then Director of Programming, and finally Associate Director of the Center for Ethnic, Racial, and Religious Understanding, Yael developed and led events, workshops, and programs with an intersectionality lens. Throughout Yael's career, there has been an emphasis on sex, gender, and diversity. Her undergraduate thesis, "A Not so Silent Voice for Female Sexuality: Empowering Examples from Literature Cross-Culturally" and Master's thesis, "Dismantling Rape Culture through an Exploration of Consent, Desire, and Pleasure," created space for her to explore sexuality, consent, and pleasure through different perspectives and disciplines. In 2018 she published "An Introguide to a Sex Positive You: Lessons, Tales, and Tips," a queer and trans inclusive book, and has since begun offering Sex Coaching services. It's that most joyous time of year…unless you're a Turkey, of course. On this month's episode, Dustin the Turkey asks us all to go vegan for Christmas or, at the very least, to consider sitting down to a nice, roast seagull. Sure you've never seen a turkey rob your chips on Dollymount strand! First up, though, Jen sits down with comedian, impressionist, and father of two Mario Rosenstock. They chat about Mario's childhood, growing up on a farm, and one truly awful chat-up line. He discusses his kids, his approach to parenting, and balancing life as a touring comedian with family life. And, of course, along the way there are some celebrity appearances from Leo, Paschal, Miriam, Roy, Gaybo, and many more. Mario talks about honing his craft, from talking to himself in the shower to encounters with some less-than-impressed celebrities! Finally, Dustin updates us all on what's happening at RTÉ, and his latest ambitions as a politician (is he Poultry Before People these days, or is it Fianna Fowl?), before singing us out with a classic Dustin Christmas tune!
