Offenbar entsteht gerade so etwas wie ein „John Wick Cinematic Universe“ (JWCU), in der Auftragskiller komplexen Regeln unterliegen. Das ganze mit einer kleinen Portion Steampunk und einer winzigen Prise Märchen. Dazu ein starkes Ensemble hervorragender Nebendarsteller – zum Beispiel Ian McShane und der leider schon verstorbene Lance Reddick. Da passt Ana de Armas sehr gut hinein, die hier weitermacht, wo sie bei James Bond (NO TIME TO DIE) aufgehört hat. Die Geschichte ist nicht weiter von Bedeutung – es geht wieder einmal um Rache. Aber die zwei Stunden sind wie ein Showdown mit immer wechselnden Schauplätzen, Gegnern und Waffen inszeniert. Und da sind schon ein paar neue Ideen und Überraschungen dabei – der Einfallsreichtum (die Schlittschuhe!) und die Dichte und das Tempo der Kampfszenen und Schusswechsel sorgen dafür, dass BALLERINA ein sehr würdiger Beitrag zum JWCU ist. Zugegeben: Man muss schon ein Herz für das Genre haben, aber dann wird man auch mit ein paar Minuten Keanu Reeves belohnt. You know the John Wick movies are successful when they're making spin-off TV series and movies off of that franchise. This week we get the first, and most assuredly, not the last John Wick spin-off movie, “Ballerina.” Ana De Armas takes the starring role in this as another assassin who, like John Wick, was trained to kill by the Ruska Roma criminal organization. Perhaps she's even more lethal than Wick because no one expects her to be an assassin. We present our review of Ballerina (2025)!Ballerina (marketed as From the World of John Wick: Ballerina) is a 2025 American action thriller film, directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatten. It is the fifth installment in the John Wick franchise, and it is set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and Chapter 4 (2023). It stars Ana de Armas as the ballerina/assassin Eve Macarro, alongside Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus. Among those reprising their roles from the previous films include Anjelica Huston, Lance Reddick (in his final screen appearance), Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves.Lionsgate acquired Hatten's spec script for the spin-off film in 2017, leading to him contributing to the final script for Parabellum and serving as the lead writer for Chapter 4. In October 2019, Wiseman was hired as director; Chad Stahelski, who had directed the previous John Wick films, was confirmed as a producer by May 2020. Ballerina was officially announced in April 2022, with de Armas confirmed as the lead. Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay hit listeners with a twist they won't see coming, because it kinda doesn't make sense, while talking about the crime caper classic 'The Usual Suspects.' Andy kicks it off by telling a story about when he wound up in police custody after attending a Grateful Dead show, and similar to Benecio del Toro's infamous fart, he couldn't hold it in while standing in a police lineup.Then the fellas discuss a movie that put handicapped people on film back at least 15 years, and debate whether this movie that is noted for its labyrinthine storytelling still holds up. It features an uneven cast, but there are undeniably great turns from the likes of Gabriel Byrne, character actor Pete Postelthwaite, and Kevin Spacey's duplicitous criminal mastermind. The true star of this however is actor Christopher McQuarrie, but the guys have trouble figuring out why Spacey's Verbal Kint needed to tell lies that were structured around the postings on a police bulletin board. Much like this '90s banger, you'll be talking about — and scratching your head — well after this episode ends.
