John & John reunite for the first time in months, and unfortunately the first topic they have to discuss is something no one wanted to be talking about: the incredibly tragic and sudden news of PAC passing away. That's right at the start so wanted to make sure I noted it for anyone listening who isn't ready to hear that sort of thing- it does come up a few more times in the episode as well. RIP to an incredible professional wrestler and, by all accounts, an even more incredible man.They then have to make an awkward transition over to discussing the imminent closing of an iconic Japanese wrestling venue, Shinjuku FACE, as John takes you through some of their own personal history with the venue and talks about how much they're going to miss banging their head on the bathroom ceiling, ahead of discussing a bunch of final FACE shows later in the episode. But first they head over to the thankfully not closing Korakuen Hall to discuss the finals of an eventful AJPW Oudou Tournament, discussing the first of two bonafide MOTYCs, a homegrown wrestler finally winning the big one, and more. They also look ahead to an upcoming AJPW tour that really spreads the wealth around a bunch of different shows, so to speak.Then it's over to the King of Sports to discuss a somewhat underwhelming Destruction in Kobe show, at least until a fantastic main event saved it somewhat. There's lots of speculation about where things might be headed into Wrestle Kingdom season too, as they look ahead first to the upcoming King of Pro Wrestling show (and two Korakuen title matches as well).And then they finally get to the whole load of final shows for each promotion at iconic venues, starting with DDT (maybe the promotion most synonymous with the venue of all!). They discuss a final title challenge, Daisuke Sasaki's incredibly high memorabilia valuation, and more! Afterward it's time to finally leave the men's wrestling behind and shift into joshi, first with Sareee-ism Chapter XII, a fantastic show with another bonafide MOTYC in the main event. This week, Wrestling Tonight heads to Chicago for a massive preview of AEW All Out and WWE x AAA Worlds Collide, two major shows running the same day in the same market. AEW returns All Out to the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, while WWE brings Worlds Collide to the nearby Allstate Arena in Rosemont with Chicago native CM Punk positioned prominently on the card. For AEW, this is a genuine homecoming. All Out returns to the building connected to the independent All In in 2018 and some of the biggest moments in AEW history, with Will Ospreay defending the AEW World Championship against Jon Moxley in a main event that feels like a confrontation between where AEW has been and where it wants to go next. We break down the entire eleven-match All Out card, including Cage and Cope defending against FTR and The Young Bucks in a three-way ladder match, Swerve Strickland and The New Level battling "Hangman" Adam Page and Brodido, Thekla facing Willow Nightingale, Kazuchika Okada defending against Tommaso Ciampa, Andrade El Ídolo facing PAC and Darby Allin teaming with Steven Borden. With seven championships involved, there is plenty beyond the main event that could reshape AEW heading into the fall. Then attention turns 20 minutes down the road, where WWE x AAA Worlds Collide has become something considerably bigger than another crossover show. WWE finalized its acquisition of AAA last year, WWE talent and AAA championships have increasingly crossed between the two brands, and this third Worlds Collide since June 2025 arrives with the relationship more integrated than ever. We preview La Catalina against Roxanne Perez for the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship, the Lucha Brothers reuniting against Los Perros del Mal, Las Tóxicas against Fatal Influence, Dragon Lee against Jack Cartwheel, the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship contender match and the Relevos Atómicos de Locura. We also look at the larger question surrounding AAA under WWE ownership: can WWE expand AAA's reach without gradually turning the promotion into another extension of the WWE machine? That question leads into WWE's much longer history of working with the outside wrestling world. From the NWA, NJPW, AJPW and SWS to Smoky Mountain Wrestling, ECW, Michinoku Pro, AAA, TNA and NOAH, WWE has opened its doors plenty of times before, usually when the company on the other side offered something WWE wanted. The difference in 2026 is that WWE no longer simply has a working relationship with AAA. WWE owns it. And then there is CM Punk. Punk teams with Rey Mysterio and El Grande Americano against Omos, Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh, while teasing callbacks to his past with his old lucha mask and "This Fire Burns." Putting one of wrestling's most famous Chicago stars at the Allstate Arena while AEW runs All Out nearby gives this match a significance that goes well beyond what happens between the ropes. There is also an incredible reversal in Punk being on this side of the fence. For years, Punk carried the aura of somebody connected to the cool-kids side of wrestling outside WWE's corporate bubble. Now he is one of WWE's biggest stars as the company brings an event built around its newly acquired wrestling promotion into Chicago opposite AEW. We get into that irony, what Punk represents on this particular weekend and why WWE's version of the "Forbidden Door" has always been more complicated than simply opening itself to the rest of professional wrestling. It is AEW All Out against WWE x AAA Worlds Collide, two buildings, two very different wrestling shows and one enormous Saturday in Chicago. We preview every match, make our predictions and examine the history and business sitting underneath a weekend that feels much bigger than either card alone. John is flying solo this week on Wrestling Omakase due to being at another anime convention, although this one came with an indoor waterpark! Wow! In theory they were doing this episode on the road, although in practice most of it ended up being recorded at home anyway. They start things out with STARDOM's latest PPV event from Yokohama Arena from this past Saturday (9/12), discussing a couple really good matches, some kinda meh booking, and an, uh, interesting debut for a new English announcer! Then it's over to Dragongate for their own major show from 9/12, which had all the meh booking of the STARDOM show but none of the high end match quality to make up for it. Of course the big booking decision everyone's talking about came in the Brave Gate match, and John breaks down both sides of that debate in detail!Then it's back to the tournaments, starting out with the entire first round of AJPW's Oudou Tournament broken down over three nights! It's time already for another super packed episode of Wrestling Omakase, as tournament season waits for no man, woman or enby! John is back on another Japan trip eve-eve, so they're filled with restless energy at the prospect of soon being back in a giant metal tube for 14 hours and they're pretty sure it showed! Thankfully returning guest Velkej is here to help them break down the end of the NJPW Best of the Super Juniors tournament, and boy is there a lot to talk about: the very divisive winner, who had the best and worst tournaments, the giant gap between A and B blocks, and a whole lot more! Plus, a preview of a very underwhelming-on-paper Dominion card for Osaka Jo Hall (not ideal when you're going to it of course!).Then it's over to Tokyo Joshi for nothing but unabashed praise (well, not quite as much from Velkej but hey) as John happened to think this random Korakuen show from them ended up being one of the very best shows of the year- from any promotion. Afterwar they head back to Dragongate for a very mixed bag of two more Korakuen Hall shows, including the enormous news of Shun Skywalker's imminent departure. They break down the perplexing way that's been handled so far, comparisons to Okada's NJPW departure, some really weird and stupid angles, and Kobe World being booked seemingly on the fly.Finally, John goes solo to break down AJPW's 6/6 show from Nikko, another fun show from the most improved promotion of 2026. John is back alongside returning guest Velkej Bracha as they open things up with the start of NJPW's annual Best of the Super Juniors tournament! They discuss all the tournament action from nights 1 through 3 all around Tokyo, breaking down which performances have been entertaining and which ones have been grating so far (and there's been plenty of both!). Then they head back to AJPW to wrap up their surprisingly good 2026 Champion Carnival, in front of one of their biggest crowds in years at Ota, before looking ahead to some big upcoming shows next month.Next up it's back to the World Wonder Ring, as John & Velkej discuss another solid Korakuen Hall show from STARDOM, celebrate the long-awaited return of the Artist six-woman belts (and talk a little about why they've been so important to the promotion historically), and then preview this coming weekend's Queen's Dynasty PPV from Aichi. John is back on the air for a special split episode! They start things out with returning guest Chris from Social Suplex, making his first appearance since the MOTY episode a few months back. After much complaining about broken phones and Apple bullshit they reminisce a little about being in Vegas for the Marvelous & West Coast shows, which is an excellent transition into the review of Marvelous' huge 10th Anniversary Show from Yokohama Buntai! They discuss a divisive main event and a ton of other huge matches. Then it's over to Sendai Girls for a typically low key but enjoyable 5/10 Shin Kiba show, featuring another great performance from Chihiro Hashimoto (but what else is new this year). To wrap up the joshi talk, John then goes solo to discuss the back half of Ice Ribbon's 5/10 show featuring a great world title match.Then John is joined by John Bivins, making his second straight appearance, as they cover all the men's wrestling together for the week. It starts out with Pro Wrestling NOAH, who we haven't covered in a while on this show and as it turns out for good reason, as they bury a mostly quite bad major show from Ryogoku, discuss a better effort from Korakuen Hall a few days later, and just generally talk about the current state of the once-proud green ring. Then it's back to AJPW to wrap up the Champion Carnival's last two block nights, which continued the trend of a quite enjoyable tournament. Speaking of enjoyable tournaments, it's the second round of the King of DDT from Shinjuku FACE! And finally, John goes solo again for a review of Dragongate's 5/8 Korakuen, as they talk the directions (and lack thereof) coming out of the big Nagoya event and some really weird booking in general, even if the show was mostly pretty good in ring wise.
