Simon was raised in Devon, UK. “I have this amazing memory of my Dad taking me to see Raiders of The Lost Ark when I was 9 and just being blown away! I had no clue then I would end up behind a camera years later.” Studying Graphic Design at Torquay Fine Art School he discovered a love of B&W photography as well as daydreaming about movies and movie making. “So I borrowed lights and a Super 8 camera from the school and made my first short film with my brother as the lead and my mum as the gaffer!“ He attended the Napier Film School in Edinburgh wanting, like most, to be a director yet discovered another key role he felt instantly drawn to - cinematographer. He spent his entire grant on old Arriflex ST camera from a former BBC Cameraman and began shooting a number of music promos and shorts films with friends, learning as he went. (One short, SEX & DEATH, won a Scottish BAFTA Television Craft Award for Lighting). In 2002 he shot his first feature film THE LAST GREAT WILDERNESS for Oscar winning director, David MacKenzie. His first real break came with feature film THE SWEENEY (2012 d. Nick Love) based on the 70’s TV show. “I remember taking my parents to see it at a Multiplex in Devon and that feeling of shear pride and knowing no matter how hard this industry can be, cinematography, and the artistry that came with it was my lifelong passion.” For his first TV experience he shot one episode of DOCTOR WHO (2013 d. Colm McCarthy) which led to episodes of RIPPER STREET (2013 d. Kieron Hawkes) and then the entire Season 2 of the acclaimed show PEAKY BLINDERS (2014 d. Colm McCarthy) which earned him a BAFTA & RTS nomination. In New Orleans he shot AMERICAN HERO (2015 d. Nick love) a documentary style feature film giving him an insight into the American film scene. It was while shooting the Canadian based movie I STILL SEE YOU (2017 d. Scott Speer) he was invited to LA to shoot the series THE ASSASSINATION OF GIANNI VERSACE (2018) a vast TV production for Ryan Murphy Productions and Fox Studios (that went on to be nominated for 18 Emmys). “I couldn’t believe my luck so I put my head down and worked and created as hard as I could” Since then he has photographed the powerful transgender TV show, POSE (2018-19) in New York (based on the 1990 documentary, Paris is Burning ) and more recently the alternative vision of discrimination in HOLLYWOOD (2020) for Netflix which both changed his view on the power of entertainment and "how it can make a difference by challenging and possibly healing key social issues." He was invited into the BSC in 2018. Scott Walker is one of my all-time favourite singers and songwriters. He once asked me to provide the booklet notes for his 5 CD box set, Five Easy Pieces. Scott also loved my 1985 review of Climate of Hunter and said it helped him crystalise his understanding of how it could best be described, "Schubert meets Schoenberg in a rock context." So in 1995, when he was selecting journalists - very few - to talk with, he gave me two interviews. This is a fragment about Johana, I Still See You and the question of how much of the tension in Walker's work was rooted in his own sexual tensions. I will be putting together an Ebook and digital magazine featuring the entire interview, and the essay we ended up not using oin that box set. Check joejacksoninterviewer.com

A perfect episode of BEHIND THE LENS as we're talking about love, baseball, and love of baseball with BRAMPTON'S OWN, and our love of Dermot Mulroney as he talks about I STILL SEE YOU. Kicking off the show is our prerecorded exclusive interview with actor DERMOT MULRONEY. Long a favorite among moviegoers, and always one of my personal favorites and fun to speak with about film, Dermot is one of the few actors who has seamlessly successfully navigated among genres and character types to create a diverse and eclectic cinematic resume; and, he's also one of the lucky ones to be a part of some of the most beloved movies on the big and small screens. Co-starring with Bella Thorne and Richard Harmon, Dermot is currently back on the big screen with the supernatural psychological thriller, I STILL SEE YOU, and it is truly a "must see" film. Based on the novel, "Break My Heart 1000 Times" by Daniel Waters, directed by Scott Speer, I STILL SEE YOU is set 9-years after an apocalyptic event which killed millions. But instead of leaving physical evidence of the deaths, those who died remain present as "spectral remnants" or "REMS" which appear every day at the same time, in the same place, wearing the same clothes, doing the same thing, as they were the moment they died. One of the novelties of this story, though, is that the spectral remnants are a part of everyday life and everyone sees them. It's normal. The other novelty is that while the living can see the REMS, there is no way to connect or interact with them. Dermot plays beloved Professor August Bitner who studies the spectral remnants, desperate to figure out how to connect with them. An interesting role and something quite different for him, take a listen as we go deep into the character, the film as a whole, the production values and effects (Dermot is very film savvy), doing his own underwater stunt work, and his overall career choices, including some beloved Hallmark holiday movies. Then writer/director MICHAEL DONEGAR joins the fun to talk about BRAMPTON'S OWN. The story of Alex, a smalltown guy whose heart and head and lifelong focus is set on making it to "The Show" aka Major League Baseball, frustration sets in when he is passed over again by his current Minor League club. Back to his hometown and his mom when the season ends, Alex starts questioning his choices in life, both personally and professionally. A story about sacrifice and choices, there is resonance for all. One of my favorite interviews and guests to appear on #BTLRadioShow, listen as Michael talks about the genesis of the film and his personal connection to the themes in play, casting (including the marvelous Jean Smart), shooting logistics (how about a 42-page shot list?), cinematography, visual design, development and lensing of some wonderful sequences involving pitching machines, and of course, influences of baseball movies that have come before. http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Jason Fuchs looks familiar. It’s either his youthful optimism or the fact that you’ve seen him repeatedly over the last two decades on episodes of 'Law & Order,' 'The Sopranos,' in 'La La Land,' and opposite Elijah Wood in 'Flipper.' While truly enjoying his acting career, Fuchs has found a new spotlight in screenwriting. After selling a handful of scripts and being brought on to chisel out 'Ice Age 4,' his new project is one of lifelong obsession. Fuchs’ passion project hit the big screen with the guidance of his pen and the masterful direction of Joe Wright. Currently, Fuchs is also working on ’I Still See You,’ ‘Minecraft: The Movie,’ and ‘Luna Park,’ which comes from a Mark Bowden story, along with his story credit for 'Wonder Woman.' In addition, the print interview for this conversation is available on Creative Screenwriting Magazine’s website. Stay up-to-date on other creative advice at www.creativeprinciples.live
