Is this real life? Jodi and Nora start out with some things from around the internet this week that sound really fake, including Brianna "Chickenfry" LaPaglia's bisexual jorts era, Jane Goodall's appearance on Call Her Daddy, a Whac-A-Mole movie, Selena Gomez Oreos, Skims nipple piercing bras, Chappell Roan's opinions about Pop Crave, and Romy Mars releasing new music (4:35). Then we continue our in-depth coverage of Jordon Hudson with some brand-new reporting around engagement rumors and an alleged incident between her and Bill Belichick's ex-girlfriend in Nantucket (24:40). At long last, the girls talk about Hailey and Justin Bieber in the form of her Vogue cover and his accompanying Instagram caption drama (40:58). And finally, they go to Cannes to talk about some fantastic fashion choices from Pedro Pascal and Alexander Skarsgard, plus Tom Cruise's deranged popcorn-centric lore (56:20), before suggesting some of their personal party-throwing must-haves (1:17:00). Vulture's Kathryn VanArendonk is back to talk about Apple TV+'s Murderbot, and whether the books do a better job of exploring questions of gender and essential humanity without Alexander Skarsgard's Ken-doll crotch confusing matters. This week on DtW, fast drivin', hard crimin' meets robot angst and action! Dan and Raul watched the first eps of Duster and Murderbot, a couple of shows with not a lot in common outside a toy-centric opening intro. Duster is an old school 70s crime series about a seasoned getaway driver played by Sawyer from Lost, teaming up with the first Black female FBI agent as they attempt to prove or disprove that boss Keth David had the Duster driver's brother killed. The pretty straightforward, pulpy yet breezy crime drama stands quite in contrast with Murderbot, the new AppleTV+ book series adaptation where a newly sentient security robot with a perfectly human face attempts to pass off as a perfectly normal functioning security bot, poorly. After the first two eps, it seems as though the self-named Murderbot (played by Alexander Skarsgard with the helmet off) might be finding a place among his hippie space community, though word of his autonomy spreading might endanger this. All in all, a good couple of shows worth finding out about, so have a listen and check em out!

AudioFile's Leslie Fine and host Jo Reed discuss how narrator Alexander Skarsgard provides the ideal voice for this audiobook. Just as one settles in with what seems like a typical Western, something occurs that reveals there's nothing typical about it. Hakan, a reserved Swede of intimidating size, must navigate a strange country where dangers abound. Skarsgard's gentle tone suggests an innocence glowing halo-like over Hakan. At the same time, a tone of melancholy suggests the folly of that expectation. Not for the faint of heart, this story will awaken an appreciation for the better aspects of human nature. Our second discussion is with Academy Award winning actress Kate Winslet who was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her turn as photographer Elizabeth 'Lee' Miller in Ellen Kuras' Lee. We first meet Lee in the months before WW2 commences, where Lee worked as a fashion model before forging a path for women journalists in wartime as she became a war correspondent for Vogue magazine.Lee's photography from that era is some of the finest work you will see focused on WW2, yet after the war, she sought to hide much of the work she did, with her son eventually finding many of her photos after she had passed away. Kuras and Winslet choose to frame Lee's story with an impossible conversation that sees Josh O'Connor's Antony Penrose sitting down with Lee Miller to talk through her life and her work in a haze of cigarette smoke. There's an emotional truth here that resonates strongly throughout the film that is keenly felt by the original writing by Penrose himself, otherwise known as the son of Sir Roland Penrose and Lee Miller. In the following conversation, Kate talks about the journey of bringing Lee's story to life, including the importance of engaging in era-specific photography, as well as the need to be able to tell these kinds of stories in todays day and age. This conversation is pulled from two separate discussions, one from a panel discussion, and the second as a one on one interview with Kate. In the first discussion, I was briefly interrupted, which is what you will hear in the following chat.Lee is now available to view on demand in Australia. It is as good as any wartime biopic that you'll see, with Winslet giving a powerful and impactful performance which is deftly supported by a rare dramatic turn from Andy Samberg, who equally deserves recognition and accolades for his work. They're both supported by a cast that includes Oscar nominee Andrea Riseborough, Oscar winner Marion Cotillard, and Alexander Skarsgard. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The gang learns the meaning of Wasted Potential this week, as they review the 4th offering from director Duncan Jones... Mute (2018). The first Netflix original movie from Germany, and directed by the son of David Bowie, starring Alexander Skarsgard and Paul Rudd, yet still this project seems to be a doomed one. The official soft sequel to Moon, but lacking all the charm of that freshman movie, Mute seems to be a movie that most people watch and forget, or never give the time of day. Watch on Netflix, then find out if you agree, or are a Mute apologist.Thank you to Class Clown, Jack, for this Patreon pick! You sunk my Battleship! That's probably what the executives at Universal Pictures were thinking the weekend Battleship, Peter Berg's megabudget adaptation of the board game, opened in theaters. Costing a massive $200 million, Battleship was meant to kick off a franchise, but it landed with a thud both critically and commercially. While star Taylor Kitsch unfairly took a lot of blame, with it one of two back-to-back flops for the unproven lead (alongside the excellent John Carter), there was a lot about Battleship that didn't make sense, with them turning the board game, which was all about strategy, into a generic alien invasion thriller. In this episode, we dig into the many things that went wrong, including casting Liam Neeson in a role with no action, killing Alexander Skarsgard in the first act, etc. Not even Rihanna could save this one from a grisly box office fate, as we explain in this week's WTF Happened to this Movie!
Maddie and Colleen join Caitlin to cover Brandon Cronenberg's Infinity Pool. We look at themes of wealth, privilege, hedonism, exploitative tourism, and ethics. But most importantly, we relish the opportunity to do impressions of Mia Goth's deranged baby voice and discuss Skarsgard on a leash. Tangents include: Colleen's delightful fixations, Caitlin's borderline unhealthy obsession with her friends, Maddie's trip to FRAHHHNCE, Culkins vs Skarsgards, board game failures (oopsie), celebrity hair, fantasy pets, sandwiches, bird poop, deer, cryptids, bigfoot erotica, cosplay, eye rolling, Swifties/Gaylors, infinity pools, scary insects, clones, favorite meals, and friendship love fests. Shoutout to AC for being the question MVP this episode. Be sure to check out My Cryptid's Keeper and Roll 4 Improv. We were just being silly gooses, your honor!

This week! The writers' strike is a week in and Josh is feeling it. The AMPTPA is full of evil-doers, the WGA rules, and AI can't write a good CSI: Miami. Drusilla watched Norma Rae, Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Cycle, and Mike Leigh's Mean Time. Josh watched And Then the Darkness. Also discussed: Life is Sweet, Legend of Hell House, The Vanishing. The TWINS sequel that got squashed, Danny DeVito was almost in Conan the Destroyer, Coma, House of Yes, Sid & Nancy, Christiane F., Sweet Valley High, American Psycho, Valley of the Dolls, Mia Goth, Pearl, Infinity Pool, Alexander Skarsgard, She-Devil.And, of course, all things Cronenberg. From wiki: “Dead Ringers is a 1988 psychological thriller film starring Jeremy Irons in a dual role as identical twin gynecologists. David Cronenberg directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Norman Snider. Their script was based on the lives of Stewart and Cyril Marcus and on the novel Twins by Bari Wood and Jack Geasland, a "highly fictionalized" version of the Marcuses' story.” Support the WGA: https://mashable.com/article/how-to-support-wga-writer-strikeNEXT WEEK: The Wicker Man (1973)Website: http://www.bloodhauspod.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/BloodhausPodInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/bloodhauspod/ Email: bloodhauspod@gmail.com Drusilla's art: https://www.sisterhydedesign.com/Drusilla's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hydesister/Drusilla's Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/drew_phillips/Joshua's website: https://www.joshuaconkel.com/Joshua's Twitter: https://twitter.com/JoshuaConkel Joshua's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshua_conkel/Joshua's Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/joshuaconkel

This week we're taking a look at Brandon Cronenberg's latest film "Infinity Pool: Uncut", starring Mia Goth and Alexander Skarsgard.
Another Empire Podcast episode, another bumper selection of guests this week, as Chris Hewitt sits down (in person) with Ian McShane, star of John Wick Chapter 4, and they chat about hotels, Lovejoy, McShane's start in acting, and (of course) Columbo. (Note: this interview was conducted before the news broke of the death of McShane's John Wick co-star, Lance Reddick) Chris also has a fantastic chat with John Boyega, star of Breaking, which is released on PVOD on Monday (March 27th), in which they talk about the film's social conscience, how Boyega navigated his career post-Attack The Block and Star Wars, and how he celebrates his birthdays. And then there's a clash of the Alexes, as our Mr Godfrey chats with Infinity Pool star Alexander Skarsgard about his crazy and intense new movie. Be warned: there's talk galore of dog collars and giant penises. The usual. Then, in the podbooth, Helen O'Hara hosts and is joined by James Dyer and Sophie Butcher for a fun episode in which they discuss unusual movie murder weapons, John Williams, the week's movie news, and review the likes of John Wick Chapter 4, The Five Devils, A Good Person, and Infinity Pool. Enjoy!

Son of Cronenberg (Brandon) Returns! Deep in lockdown, we covered his film Possessor (2020) which pulverized us. This time around Alexander Skarsgard plays a struggling writer in a resort town who gets killed and cloned with the help of Mia Goth and her sordid cohorts. Sex & drugs & violence were amply served to us, but was that enough to win us over? Brandon Cronenberg and Mia Goth were in the AMC Burbank 16 to introduce the film, and Kevin Sorbo also made a cameo appearance! We'll tell you all about our experience of this twisted sci-fi horror flick!
In this episode, we review the latest film from Brandon Cronenberg starring Mia Goth & Alexander Skarsgard titled Infinity Pool. We discuss how the plot and twists in this film kept us guessing, we praise the performance of Mia Goth, and we wonder if the theme of “rich people doing bad things” is becoming tiresome in horror films Learn more about your ad choices. We review two extremely different movies set in places that only look like paradise on the latest Breakfast All Day. First, Christy and Alonso are split on Brandon Cronenberg's graphic and disturbing "Infinity Pool," starring Mia Goth and Alexander Skarsgard. So many bodily fluids! Then, Nick Bell from the Fish Jelly Film Reviews YouTube channel joins Christy to discuss "Shotgun Wedding," a lifeless Jennifer Lopez rom-com that's streaming on Prime Video. And over at our Patreon, we recap the first four episodes of the Rian Johnson-Natasha Lyonne mystery series "Poker Face" on Peacock, which we're loving. Thanks for joining us!

Melancholy evokes images of poets and artists for whom suffering and giftedness go hand in hand. Creative ability as compensation for affliction is depicted in Greek myth by the god Hephaestus. Rejected by his goddess mother and cast out of Olympus, alienated Hephaestus forged magnificent, magical objects for the gods. Such archetypal imagery can inform our understanding of the kind of depression that seems intrinsic but may have roots in early, adverse childhood experiences of emotional deprivation or rejection. Early loss, separation from a primary caregiver, or relational abandonment can have lifelong repercussions. Such disruptive events, though not available to consciousness, nonetheless infuse adult attitudes and attachments. To name the void creates space for mourning and healing, and like Hephaestus, finding the inner fire to forge something new. Dream In my dream I am walking, I think toward a house. I'm walking through a wilderness area that has many, like at least 2 dozen, dead rabbits. They are dismembered. And I look at them, but when I do, I feel that I have violated their death. I'm not sure. I know a wolf got them but I never see the wolf. I see one of the rabbit's faces, and even though it is missing it's lower half (and is quite bloody), I know its soul is still alive, though its body is dead. I don't ponder this for very long in the dream. After that, I pass the rabbits, and I'm in the yard of what I think might be my home. But it is flooded - the aftermath of a flood. There is a large (80 foot) oak tree in the middle of the flood waters. Next to it is a tower of toadstools, each growing on top of one another. They are beautiful. They are lime green and white, almost glowing. I never go into the house because I'm amazed by the mushrooms. I take picture after picture of them from various angles.
