Challenges of Life: Living, Surviving, Shining
The Fruitful Life | Living Inside Out | Part 1 | Phil Valdez by passionlifechurch.com
You would think being the first and only American to summit an 8000m peak in winter would be the climb of a lifetime... but for renowned National Geographic photographer, writer, authort, and climber, Cory Richards' journey with mental health has been the true summit. Although he grew up in a picture-perfect family, Cory's journey began with a violent relationship with his brother and being diagnosed with bipolar II at a young age. From childhood trauma to addiction, Cory went on to accomplish incredible things, but what shines even brighter than the accolades is the human experience Cory has lived and has come to share with the world. In today's episode, we dive in to men's mental health, how mental health doesn't discriminate based on privilege or status, overcoming addiction, true ownership of your life, and how to stop getting stuck in the stories you tell about yourself so you can live truly free. How to Live a Worthy Life: Living as Citizens of Heaven - Philippians 2:1-4 - Stephen Watson
Welcome to another episode of THRIVE
Every believer faces the challenge of living with consistency. Life gets busy, distractions creep in, and before we know it, we feel distant from God. So how can we cultivate a steadfast faith that resists drifting, stumbling, and apathy? The answer is simple, yet it requires more than our own effort—it takes supernatural strength. But in Ephesians 1, Paul's prayer reveals what enlightens, energizes, and equips us to fully embrace and enjoy the life we have in Christ—the saint life.

Today is the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. In recognition of this, please listen to this re-release of an interview I did with Holocaust survivor, Gene Klein. In the spring of 1944, a teenage Gene Klein and his family were taken from their village in Hungary and thrown into the infamous Nazi extermination camp known as Auschwitz. His father was taken straight to the gas chamber. Klein was forced into slave labor until liberated in the spring of 1945, and he spent two years as a refugee before his and other family members were allowed to immigrate to the United States. “Eventually, I decided that, like [Elie ] Wiesel, I needed to be public about being a survivor and that, in my own small way, I should contribute to the mission of educating the world about the Holocaust,” he wrote.“I will tell our story,” he continued, “and I will speak — especially in these times — about the tolerance and compassion necessary to prevent what happened to us from happening to others.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Engage with scripture readings, heartfelt devotionals, and collective prayers that draw you into the heart of God's love. Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome, dear listeners, to the January 5th, 2025 episode of the Daily Radio Bible. I'm your host, Hunter, and I'm thrilled to have you join us today on our journey through the Bible. Together, we'll read Genesis chapters 12 through 14, exploring the story of Abram's call and his adventures in Canaan and Egypt. We'll then turn to Luke chapter 5, witnessing Jesus' miraculous catch of fish, his healing of a man with leprosy, and his powerful teaching that challenged religious expectations. Our goal is not just to read these scriptures, but to see Jesus, to be transformed by His love, and to walk in His ways as beloved children of God. Let's dive in and embrace this journey together, welcoming the new life and abundant joy that comes from walking with our Bridegroom, Jesus. Join me as we explore, reflect, and pray through these timeless passages. TODAY'S DEVOTION: The religious leaders are upset. They're disturbed by Jesus and his disciples. They're always eating and drinking, they said to Jesus. And Jesus' response leads us to a question, especially if you've been at this Christian experience for any length of time. The question that rose up in my own heart was this, is the bridegroom with us or not? Jesus says if the bridegroom is not with us, it calls for fasting. Then he says there's gonna be a time, a time, when that happens. But if he is with us, here right It's time to eat and drink. It's time to go out into our day and live it in the reality of the bridegroom's presence with us. They were being critical of Jesus and his followers because they weren't showing the requisite religious, I don't know, gloom that was required or expected of holy people. They were eating and drinking. They were learning to live and exude that unselfconscious, childlike abundant life in the presence of the bridegroom. New life in a new way, probably much to the surprise of the disciples themselves. Luke seems to be saying that when you are walking with the bridegroom, you will walk in this new life in a new way because the one who renews us is with us, and he will one day renew all things. Now there is a time to mourn. There is a time to weep. There is a time to fast. For everything, there is a season. But in all things and in all seasons, we now do them in the presence and the company of the bridegroom. He is our comforter in times of trouble. He is our strength and our shield. He is our wisdom and our light. He walks with us through the valley of the shadow of death, and he prepares a banquet for us in the presence of our enemies. He is our bright and morning star. He is our joy and our life. So that means in the wake of loss and strife and hardships and even death, he is with us. This is his new wine abiding in you, and it is a new thing. And the prayer of my own heart today is that I will live awake to the bridegroom's presence with me today, that I will grow in that unselfconscious, childlike, abundant life, and maybe even surprise myself today by living free of the requisite religious gloom that my old religious self would require and instead live as the child of God that I am. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. Mark concludes the Unhurried Life series by discussing a Rule of Life and living on purpose. Exploring the life and example of Daniel, we see how to be faithful when we are living in a world contrary to God's unhurried pace. Daniel 1:8-16 and 6:6-12. www.thevineaustin.org DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: 1. What has been your experience with The Unhurried Life podcast? Is there an episode that has lingered with you? 2. What is something from the sermon that has stayed with you- either as encouraging, curious or confusing? 3. As you consider Daniel 1, why is choosing to reject royal food/drink so important? How could that translate to our life and what we consume? 4. Read Daniel 6:10. "Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.” Discuss why this practice of prayer would have been so powerful for Daniel, especially as a exile. 5. As you consider developing a rule of life going forward, what are you wanting to include in your rule of life? 6. As we conclude this series, what are some lessons, experiences, or practices that you take with you? Ann Wilson is a South African who leads a unique lifestyle immersed in the wild, sharing her experiences through engaging videos. Her home features an eight-foot-high outdoor tub where giraffes and elephants occasionally come to drink, providing a glimpse into her extraordinary surroundings. As winter settles in, she humorously recounts the mischief caused by roaming elephants, which she incorporates into her maintenance budget. Reflecting on her journey, Ann feels privileged to live in such a vibrant environment, though she acknowledges the hard work that has gone into achieving her dream. Growing up as the fifth of six children in a typical middle-class South African family during the height of apartheid, Ann was shaped by the struggles of her upbringing. Her father worked tirelessly to support the family, while her mother instilled the value of education as a pathway to success. Witnessing societal injustices fueled Ann's activism during her university years, where she became involved in the anti-apartheid movement. Throughout her life, Ann has lived in various parts of the world, but she cherishes her life in South Africa, often highlighting the laid-back, positive attitudes of her friends. Her journey towards financial independence and security began after witnessing her mother's challenges following their father's passing, which motivated Ann to seek a stable career in civil engineering. However, her quest for true financial freedom led her to explore unconventional paths, including real estate and investing. Today, Ann is not only a wildlife enthusiast but also a passionate advocate for conservation and community empowerment. Through her experiences, she emphasizes the importance of gratitude and living a fulfilling life that goes beyond mere financial success.

"We are pulled away from this very early on. This is why we call it magic because it's there, it's natural, it's nature, but we are disconnected from it from very early on because we are told not follow our hearts and not live in accordance with our own inner knowing that we stop abiding in that and start to do things that are solely from a state of survival and societal norms. Following the heart doesn't make sense in a world solely led by intellect. Intellect is not the only way to exist. It's like driving a car on one wheel."Welcome back to Journey with Akia. ESGfitness.co.uk AI Takeaways Balancing work and family life can be challenging, but it's important to embrace the present moment and enjoy the time spent with loved ones. Incorporating weight workouts into a busy schedule can be achieved by adding shorter workouts during the week in addition to a longer session on the weekend. When trying to lose the last few pounds, it's important to continue lifting weights to maintain muscle mass and focus on overall body recomp. Setting goals beyond weight loss, such as performance goals or pursuing hobbies, can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Mobility training can be a useful addition to most people's fitness routines, and it's important to start with basic exercises and gradually progress. Mobility training is important if it helps improve day-to-day activities or addresses specific mobility issues, but it may not be necessary for everyone. Lifting weights with good form can also improve mobility. Consult a doctor if you have low iron levels, as they can provide guidance on supplementation. Food preferences vary among individuals, and it's okay to not enjoy certain foods that others love. When camping, it's important to make sensible food choices, but also to enjoy the experience and not stress too much about food.

What does it mean to love God? And how can we know that we love Him? Unlike the common perception of love, as merely a feeling, the reality is love is more than just an emotion. In today's passage, we hear Jesus clearly explain what Love for Him truly entails: Through this talk, which continues through the book of John, we are reminded of how Jesus demonstrated the true definition of love, and encouraged to recognize the true meaning and immense benefit of loving Christ.

Most people go about their lives reacting to the circumstances they are in and the events they experience. There is another way to live, a way of curating how you feel and creating the reality around you on purpose. In this episode of the Playful Spirituality podcast Cara dives into the distinction between these two; reacting versus creating. She shares a personal (and a little bit embarrassing) experience of this recently in her life, to demonstrate how normal it is even for those who know how to create on purpose, to sometimes slip back into just reacting. If this is you lately don't worry! You may not even realize that you have slipped into reacting instead of creating, and that life could feel so much better than it does! Growing up in rural Tennessee, Gretchen Bates was always very active. She spent long summer days in her childhood exploring the woods, swimming in creeks, and playing with friends. As a teenager and young adult, Gretchen was competitive in sports and was an avid cyclist, kayaker, open-water swimmer and triathlete. By her early 30s, she had completed her first full-length Ironman competition, logged over 15,000 miles on her bike, and finished three separate, fully independent bicycle tours. At 5'6” tall (167 CM) and 160 pounds (73 kg), she was a healthy, athletically built woman. By her late 30s, Gretchen left her physically active career to return to school for her Masters Degree. She started a new career after graduation, leading to long hours behind a desk. The new stationary career and her naturally slowing metabolism started to take its toll. By her 40th birthday, Gretchen weighed 185 pounds (84 kg). To control her weight, she spent several years experimenting with low-calorie and fad diets. Nothing seemed to work. At 44 years old, Gretchen's weight ballooned again when her mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Gretchen became her primary caregiver, took on the management of her mother's small business, and was responsible for her mother's personal and health affairs, all while juggling her career. The weight of being a full-time caregiver left Gretchen physically and emotionally exhausted. Like many caregivers, she was chronically stressed and started suffering from depression. Simultaneously, the Covid pandemic swept through North America, her mother's condition worsened, and by 46 years old, Gretchen had reached her all-time highest weight of 220 pounds (100 kg). A sudden health scare forced Gretchen to take a hard look at her lifestyle and to make drastic changes to reclaim her health. After 15 months of Intermittent Fasting, Gretchen reached her goal weight range of 140-150 pounds (63-68 kg). She continues to try new fasting protocols and works to strengthen her fasting muscles by practising TRE, mindful eating, and avoiding sugar and processed foods. She fully embraces her new fasting lifestyle and strives for optimal health. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/graeme-currie/message

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, they kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen.
