Welcome back to TableSetters, your ultimate destination for all things baseball! Steve and Devin are here, and we've got a fantastic guest joining us for today's episode. We're thrilled to welcome Keith Raad, the play-by-play broadcaster for the New York Mets on WCBS 880. Keith works alongside Mets Hall of Famer Howie Rose, bringing all the action and insights to Mets fans throughout the season. You can follow Keith on X @keith_raad and catch him live on the Mets' broadcast! In this episode, we dive into a range of topics about the Mets and the 2024 season. We start by hearing about Keith's journey in baseball broadcasting—how he got started and what steps led him to his current role with the Mets. We also talk about his experience working alongside the legendary Howie Rose and the lessons he's learned about calling a game and connecting with an audience. The 2024 Mets have been one of the most talked-about teams this season, and rightfully so! From unforgettable moments to a unique clubhouse vibe, Keith shares his favorite highlight of the year and what made this Mets team stand out. We also discuss Carlos Mendoza, one of the rising stars in the managerial ranks, and what makes him such an effective leader. Looking ahead, the Mets have a busy offseason. We get Keith's take on whether Juan Soto should be their top target, or if other areas should take precedence in their plans. With several expiring contracts and potential roster changes, Keith breaks down which players might return in 2025 and how the team's financial flexibility could play a role in bringing in new talent. We also dive into the Mets' promising young talent—players like Brett Baty, Ronnie Mauricio, and Francisco Álvarez—and what we can expect from them next season. We discuss the possibility of Mark Vientos being locked up long-term, how the Mets could use their farm system for potential trades, and the future of Francisco Álvarez—especially as it relates to his offensive consistency and what adjustments might be in store. To close, Keith reflects on the most rewarding part of his role with the Mets and what he hopes to bring to the passionate Mets fanbase in the years to come. This is one episode you won't want to miss, so grab your headphones and get ready for an insightful conversation with Keith Raad. It's all here, on TableSetters—where every inning tells a story, and every pitch sets the stage for baseball's greatest moments! And don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Twitter @TableSettersPod for exclusive updates, behind-the-scenes content, and interactive fan polls. We want to hear from you!
2024 National League Championship Series New York Mets @ Los Angeles Dodgers - Games One and Two Once again we have a battle between Los Angeles and New York in the playoffs, but instead of Dodgers and Yankees (which we may yet see in the World Series) it will be the Dodgers taking on the Mets. Carlos Mendoza's squad took down their division rival Phillies in just four games, behind strong starting pitching from Severino, Manaea, and Quintana, as well as clutch hitting from Mark Vientos, Pete Alonso, and superstar Francisco Lindor. These Mets don't mind being the underdog, but they will have yet another tall task ahead of them in the NLCS. The Dodgers also took down their division rival in the San Diego Padres, though Dave Roberts's team was pushed to the brink in five games. They rode unbelievable pitching to ultimately advance, holding the Padres scoreless for the final 24 innings in the series. If they somehow shut out the Mets in game one, they would tie the all-time postseason scoreless streak (which was inflicted upon the Dodgers by the Orioles in the 1966 World Series). Shohei Ohtani's first postseason has been successful so far, mainly because he has come through nearly every time with runners on base (he's been hitless with the bases empty.) Mookie Betts has finally returned to form in the playoffs, while the Hernández brothers*(not actually brothers) provided the punch in the clinching game. Game one will feature hometown kid Jack Flaherty, who looks to be much better than in his Dodger postseason debut. Opposing him will be Kodai Senga, making just his third start this season. It is unclear how long the Mets will let him pitch, but the Dodgers offense might have more of a say in that decision than anything. In game two, the Dodgers will go with a bullpen game, which worked to perfection against San Diego. The Mets will counter with their big lefty, Sean Manaea, who was brilliant against Philadelphia. Past matchups between these teams in the playoffs have been electric, with a classic seven gamer in 1988 and some fireworks in the 2015 NLDS. We should be in store for plenty of drama. Audio clips from MLB.tv LAD radio 570 AM - Stephen Nelson and Rick Monday NYM radio WCBS 880 AM - Howie Rose and Keith Raad As always, shout out to Baseball Reference and SABR for statistics, box scores, background information, and much, much more. SERIES 2 EPISODE 7: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump. Friday, Microsoft said the Iranians would try to meddle in the election. SATURDAY… YOUR campaign computers get hacked - you say. By the Iranians – you say. And you didn't report it to the FBII. Even though it's by Iran and part of your whole campaign scam, Trump, is that Iran is the root of all evil. And you didn't report it to the F-B-I, and you didn't provide any evidence. Only yesterday, the FBI issued another anonymous, not even a spokesman's name attached to it, just like that No-He-Was-Too-Hit-By-A-Bullet announcement – gave a clear and compelling picture of the vast team that has fanned out across the country, across the internet, across the world to track down this evil. Quote: “We can confirm the FBI is investigating this matter.” Investigating… who? Investigating… what? Whether they were really hacked? Whether they were really hacked by the Iranians? Whether Trump made it all up? Whether the Trump campaign fell for some sort of phishing by a porn site? Also the material was supposed to hurt Trump? And was leaked to The Washington Post and Politico, which have repeatedly been helping Trump in this campaign? What's hurting Trump, and which the media is under-reporting, is that his polls are now cratering. Last week The New York Times had Kamala Harris ahead by 4 in each of the Rust Belt States. Now, Bullfinch Group for a site supposedly servicing independent voters: Harris by FOUR in Pennsylvania, by FIVE in Michigan, by NINE in Wisconsin. There's a tie in North Carolina. There's a lead of nearly three points at 538 and of more than half a point at the right-poisoned RCP poll of polls. And most staggeringly - and most undercovered - from The New York Times: “Two private polls conducted in Ohio recently by Republican poillsters – which Mr. Trump carried in 2020 with 53 percent of the vote – showed him receiving less than 50 percent of the vote against Ms. Harris in the state, according to a person with direct knowledge of the data.” Holy crap. B-Block (31:40) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: The unaided ease by which that Turkish guy won a shooting medal at the Olympics has the inevitable side effect. 27% of Brits tell pollsters that if they started now THEY could make the 2028 British Olympic team. The aforementioned LaCivita gets blown up by Matt Dowd over Swift Boating. And the tape CNN found from January 6th from the North Carolina candidate to run schools there, Michele Morrow. All it is is a demand that Trump conduct a military coup against then President-elect Biden. (41:50) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: In memory of WCBS Radio, the day its news director validated my entire existence as an aspiring 20-year old broadcaster. The saga of The Adler Letter.
