Welcome to Past The Wire's podcast Gate To Wire! The Haskell sure came up special this year. Both Jack Christopher and Taiba are potential stars and either can easily wind up the Champion Three-Year Old. This is an exciting race to watch and a challenging one to bet as the two heavy favorites are tough to go against. Is Cyberknife good enough if he gets the pace and right set up? What about White Abarrio? This should be one good horse race. Listen to what Michael Vale and Jonathan Stettin think about this potential classic Haskell.
In a special edition of the show, JK, Brian Skirka, and Frank Mirahmadi are here to preview the all-graded-stakes Pick 4 on Haskell Day, including tips, picks, and analysis for the G3 Matchmaker, the G3 Molly Pitcher, the G1 United Nations, and of course the G1 Haskell, which features a showdown between the Bob Baffert-trained Taiba and the Chad Brown-trained Jack Christopher.

Michael Beychock, the 2012 National Handicapping Championship winner, has made plenty of headlines this year. A well-known, outspoken horseplayer, Beychok joined the latest episode of Bettor Things with Joe Bianca this week to talk about his class-action suit against Bob Baffert surrounding the since-vacated 2021 Kentucky Derby victory of Medina Spirit, his vow to move
The Haskell day card at Monmouth is phenomenal but I've narrowed this week's Key Races & Bets to cover three of the best races on the day - the Molly Pitcher Stakes, the United Nations Stakes and the Haskell Stakes, the latter featuring top three year olds like Cyberknife, White Abarrio and undefeated Jack Christopher.
In the end, things work because they work. We try stuff, often if not always with the best intentions, and see whether it gains our trust. Lived experience, among horsemen and fans, will eventually tell us whether an experiment has failed or whether, once every generation or so, we might have struck a game-changing seam
How poignant that, in this of all weeks, the two most breathtaking winners on Belmont day should both have prompted comparisons with Ghostzapper, whose GI Breeders' Cup Classic at Lone Star Park in 2004 was surely the greatest Thoroughbred performance ever on Texan soil. Because while the whole racing world came to Dallas that day, it
We ADORED the Belmont Days of racing last Friday and Saturday! Maybe our favorite race cards of the year! Timestamps follow as always. Forget the complaints about small fields, there were almost no undercards, the calliber of horses and races were so good! 3:03 Friday's Race 9, the True North G2 showed what a baller (and a boy) Jackie's Warrior is. 5:15 Friday's Race 10, the New York G1, had 4 Chad Brown entries, including the great Bleecker Street, Family Way (an Uncle Mo kid) and Flighty Lady, who came in for Trixie. 8:15 Saturday's Race 2 was an allowance where Weej won with Uncle Moonlight, progeny of… who else?! 8:43 R3, the Acorn G1, ended up with the 4 horses of the Apocolaypse after Echo Zulu's late scratch. Matareya dominated. 10:21 The Just a Game G1 turf, R4, offered a nice story for Peter Brant, owner of Just a Game, and now, of winner Regal Glory. 12:51 R5 was the Brooklyn G2, which Fearless won for Weej. 13:32 R6, the Woody Stephens G1 crowned Jack Christopher as a Elite

This will be a huge weekend for handicappers to start lining up their Breeders' Cup selections. There will be 9 Breeders' Cup “Win & You're In” events from Friday through Monday contested at both ends of the map. We will be joined by two of the country's most experienced handicappers Ralph Siraco and Anthony Stabile. Ralph Siraco is a former track announcer who became a turf writer and broadcaster. He currently hosts the racing radio show Race Day Las Vegas, broadcast on KSHP AM 1400 in Las Vegas. Ralph will cover several races from Santa Anita over Friday and Saturday. 2-year-olds will be featured first and the races are full of blue-blooded individuals with top connections. As usual, Bob Baffert's trainees will be front and center in both. At least three youngsters from his barn are set to make their mark in the G1, $300,000 American Pharoah, headed by his $1,500,000 baby Corniche. In the $200,000 G2 Chandelier, the white-haired wonder sends out two runners including Grace Alder, a smashing winner of the G1 Del Mar Debutante. Baffert is going to pass on the G1 Awesome Again with just one of his trainees, but he is sending out the first-place finisher of the Kentucky Derby. Laurel River won an allowance race at Del Mar so impressively in his two-turn debut earlier this month that Baffert initially entertained thoughts of running in the $300,000 Awesome Again on Saturday at Santa Anita, but upon further review Baffert said Tuesday. he would enter both Medina Spirit, the first-place finisher in the Kentucky Derby, and recent Del Mar allowance winner Azul Coast in the Awesome Again, a 1 1/8-mile race expected to include, among others, Tripoli and Tizamagician, the one-two finishers from last month's Pacific Classic at Del Mar. The Awesome Again is a Win and You're In for the Breeders' Cup Classic Nov. 6 at Del Mar. Anthony “the Big A” Stabile was born at the racetrack. He is now a popular host on Horse Racing Radio Network and will be giving in us his insights into the important races from Belmont Park. Stakes winners Gunite and Wit are expected to take on flashy debut winners Jack Christopher and My Prankster in Saturday's G1, $500,000 Champagne, a Win and You're In race for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Del Mar on Nov. 5. Gunite, trained by Steve Asmussen, won the G1 Hopeful, defeating Wit by 5 3/4 lengths. Wit, who won the G3 Sanford by eight lengths on July 17, stumbled at the start of the Hopeful but made a sustained bid, finishing three lengths clear of the remainder of the field in second. Wit is trained by Todd Pletcher, who also trains My Prankster, a 10-length debut winner at Saratoga on Aug. 21 going 6 1/2 furlongs. Could there be an upset brewing in the Woodward? Code of Honor, a son of Noble Mission, enjoyed a terrific 3-year-old campaign and figures to be among the choices in a deep Woodward field that is expected to include Art Collector, By My Standards, Dr Post, Forza Di Oro and Maxfield.
