The Cigar Mile Handicap this weekend at Aqueduct takes center stage on the Ron Flatter Racing Pod. Maggie Wolfendale Morley of Fox Sports analyzes the race and discusses the current outbreak of the equine herpesvirus in Kentucky. Owner Jeffrey Drown talks about Zandon's bid to win the Cigar Mile and his late push for an Eclipse Award. David Levitch, the Paddock Prince, handicaps weekend races at Aqueduct and Del Mar. The Ron Flatter Racing Pod via Horse Racing Nation is available via free subscription from Apple, Google, Spotify and Stitcher as well as HorseRacingNation.com.
Strictly, it's the very reverse of what he's doing—which is actually to revert from two turns to one. In a sense, however, the return of Zandon (Upstart) to Aqueduct on Saturday will bring things full circle.
We kick off the show with Dale Romans talking about exciting two-year-olds and the effect that KTDF funding has had on his racing operation in Kentucky. Our sport thrives on anticipation; our business, on outcomes. But actually it can take a while to unpick one from the other—especially when even a race as storied as the GI Travers S. is not just an end in itself, but also a potential means to viability for the whole program of whoever is lucky

In the end, things work because they work. We try stuff, often if not always with the best intentions, and see whether it gains our trust. Lived experience, among horsemen and fans, will eventually tell us whether an experiment has failed or whether, once every generation or so, we might have struck a game-changing seam

Brace yourselves sports fans. This is a jam packed, fast paced sports podcast to get your week off and running. I have tons to delve in as the sports world has much to offer on the latest episode. On deck: (3:24) The Suns and Heat have given back 2-0 series leads to the Mavericks and Sixers respectively. Will both teams be able to thwart the underdogs and move onto a conference final? Do the Mavs or Sixers have the means to pull off an astonishing upset? Can Chris Paul bounce back from two subpar games? Is Joel Embiid's return enough to put them over the top? The Warriors ran the Grizzlies out of the gym on Saturday night, and in the process, the Grizz will be without their best player Ja Morant in Game 4. Does Memphis have any shot of winning in an enormous swing game in this series? Was Jordan Poole's tug on Morant's knee a dirty play? Also, can the Bucks take a commanding lead in their series against Boston with a win tonight? Will Jayson Tatum rebound from a nightmare game. A lot of intrigue has taken the second round by storm as the NBA playoffs march on. (26:13) The Stanley Cup Playoffs has gotten off to a great start. We already have a team that's come back from an 0-2 deficit in the Boston Bruins. Will they have enough to overtake the Carolina Hurricanes and steal this first round series? The Florida Panthers have a lot to answer as their season could be on the brink with a pivotal Game 4 in Washington, down 2-1. Same could be said for the Rangers as they're staring at a 3-1 series possibility. What about their young, high prized draft picks? (Kaapo Kakko and Alexis Lafreniere) The Rangers are hoping for more of a contribution in order to extend this series as far as they can go. Plus, Tampa gets back in the win column to tie up their series with Toronto. The Kings also even their series with the Oilers. Are the Flames in trouble vs. the Stars? Colorado is the only team in cruise control as they're on the verge of a sweep? And the Blues and Wild looks like it's going to go to a Game 7 as expected as I'll cover all that's happening on the ice as we get deeper into this first round. (39:39) I'll take a look at the MLB landscape as there have been some injuries to reports (i.e. Marcus Stroman, Zach Wheeler) but with the first month of the season completed, I'll recap what's happening on the diamond as the Mets continue to win series and have the biggest division lead in the sport as of today, the Twins, White Sox, Angels & Astros have played well, the Brewers and Cardinals are holding it down in the NL Central and the NL West has been competitive to date. (46:14) The Kentucky Derby provided an all time upset as Rich Strike, a horse that was filling in as an alternate for the scratched Ethereal Road at 80-1, wins over heavily favored horses Epicenter and Zandon to finish the first leg of the Triple Crown. Does Rich Strike have a shot to win at the Preakness? Is he a one-hit wonder? (51:40) Canelo Alvarez was surprisingly dominated by Dmitry Bivol on Saturday night in a WBA super light heavyweight fight. Was that expected from a guy who only lost one other fight previously in his career? (53:46) Charles Oliveira defeated Justin Gaethje in UFC 274, but did not come out with the belt as the lightweight champion. Why was that the case? (55:47) The next great tennis star has arrived. Carlos Alcaraz, an 18 year old Spaniard had an impressive run at the Madrid Open winning his fourth title of 2022. Who he beat in the process? You'll have to listen for yourself as this is a guy we'll have to pay attention to on the tennis circuit for years to come. (58:13) In closing, my Hero and Zero of the Week. Joe Gibbs Racing driver Christopher Bell finished fourth. The race was red-flagged Sunday with teammates Kyle Larson and Elliott sitting first and second. NFL – NFL clears Browns after former coach said team tanked games An independent investigation launched by the NFL found no evidence the Cleveland Browns purposely lost games during the 2016 and 2017 seasons as former coach Hue Jackson claimed. The league said that a 60-day independent review determined “none of the allegations could be substantiated.” Former U.S. Attorney and SEC Chair Mary Jo White led the investigative team. Jackson went 3-36-1 in two-plus seasons for Cleveland before he was fired eight games into the 2018 season. In February, Jackson said Browns owner Dee and Jimmy Haslam incentivized people in the organization to lose over a four-year period. NCAAFB – Big Ten – Huskers’ Frost to sit out 5 days in ’22 season for violation Scott Frost will not be allowed to perform his coaching duties for five consecutive days this football season as part of Nebraska’s negotiated settlement with the NCAA for allowing an unauthorized staff member to do hands-on special teams coaching in 2020. The NCAA said Frost failed to monitor former special teams analyst Jonathan Rutledge’s activities. Rutledge was found to work directly with players during special teams drills and assist or make tactical decisions in games. Among other penalties are a $10,000 fine, probation through April 2023 and removal of non-coaching staff members from practice or competition for five days. Horse Racing – Zandon is 3-1 favorite for Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs Zandon and filly Nest are the morning-line favorites for the 148th Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs. The Kentucky track will host both marquee races at full capacity for the first time since 2019. Zandon is trained by Chad Brown, drew 3-1 odds and will start Saturday from the No. 10 post among 20 horses for the $3 million marquee event for 3-year-olds. Nest drew the No. 4 post among 14 fillies for the Oaks and is the 5-2 favorite for Friday’s $1.25 million, 1 1/8th-mile race. Ukraine/Russia – Finland and Sweden banning KHL players from national teams Finland and Sweden will ban from their national ice hockey teams any of their players who appear in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League from next season. Both ice hockey federations announced their decisions on Monday, two days after the KHL season ended. The statement followed public and media criticism of players in their respective men’s national teams who appeared in the KHL. Most foreign players left the KHL after Russia invaded Ukraine in late February, but defenseman Mikko Lehtonen was one prominent Finn who stayed to the end. Three Swedes also featured in the KHL finals. Figure Skating – Figure skating body details proposal to hike age limit to 17 Figure skating’s governing body has detailed a proposal to raise the athlete age limit to 17 at the Olympics and other international events. The proposal was expected even before 15-year-old Kamila Valieva’s doping case dominated the women’s event at the Beijing Olympics in February. The International Skating Union wants the new age limit phased in before the 2026 Olympics in Italy and published a proposal to be voted on at its June 5-10 meetings in Thailand. The ISU’s medical commission cited concerns with “burnout, disordered eating, and long-term consequences of injury” for young athletes. WNBA – AP source: WNBA to honor Griner with decal on teams’ floor The WNBA will honor Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner with a floor decal, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press. The decal will feature Griner’s initials “BG” as well as her No. 42. All 12 teams will have the decal on their home courts starting with the season opener Friday night. Griner is still being detained in Russia. The league’s Board of Governors also approved Phoenix paying Griner’s salary and not have it count against the cap, according to a different person familiar with that decision told the AP. The Mercury would have had to decide whether to suspend Griner without pay or keep her on the roster and cost the team a roster spot. Both people spoke on condition of anonymity because the decisions haven’t been announced publicly. Three-time AL MVP Mike Trout struck out in all four at-bats, three against Cease. The Angels star, who homered and doubled in a win Sunday, fanned against Liam Hendriks to end the game. Angels two-way start Shohei Ohtani didn’t start, a day after making an early exit because of groin tightness. The reigning AL MVP grounded out as a pinch-hitter in the eighth. Elliott led the final 53 laps and won his 14th career Cup race. He made it another win for Hendrick Motorsports on the mile concrete track. Elliott followed teammate Alex Bowman’s checkered flag a year ago, and a Hendrick driver won for the 22nd time at Dover. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was second and had his first top-five finish of the season for JTG Daugherty Racing. Ross Chastain was third for Trackhouse Racing. 00:38 Last weekend's Rachel Alexandra (G2) at Fair Grounds in New Orleans. Race 12's odds had us asking: What do people know about Hidden Connection? We liked La Crete and North County, but… 2:35 La Crete was injured and has since had what seems to be successful surgery. Props to jockey Joel Rosario. 4:09 Goddess of Fire surprised us—When will we learn?! Trainer Todd Pletcher always has a reason for placing a horse somewhere. 4:43 Trixie did WIN modestly by betting on #7 Turnerloose and #9 Awake at Midnyte to come into the money, mostly because she is coming to adore Nyquist's kids (Nyquist is out of Uncle Mo, another great sire). 5:39 North County's odds at 8-1 made Weej curious, but the move up in class was rough. 7:12 Race 13 was the Risen Star G2, a star-studded race with champs-in-waiting Pappacap, Smile Happy, Zandon, and Epicenter, among others. We were HIGH on Nyquist kid Slow Down Andy and his nice G2 win against Messier at Los Alamitos, but he stunk here! 8:36 Had to put a buck on Russian Tank, just in case that huge long shot came in. (Spoiler: Nope) 9:09 Trafalgar may be dead to Trixie. Smile Happy didn't walk away with a win, but Placed and is still legit. 11:03 Holy Noodle Casserole! Epicenter killed it! His last humiliation by closer Call Me Midnight seems to have fired him up to dominate. Watching the young horses mature is so satisfying. Post Risen Star, we scan the rearranged Derby leaderboard. 13:55 Covering the Hyacinth Stakes, a Japanese Derby prep, and also the G1 February Stakes in Japan. We got the year's first Breeders Cup Classic win-and-you're-in entrant, 5 year-old colt Cafe Pharaoh, the defending and still-champion of this $2.2M race. 15:44 Moving onto FAT POINTS/FAT PURSES prep races at Oaklawn in Arkansas this weekend, February 26th. We have the Rebel Stakes (G2) at 1 and 1/16 miles on dirt for a purse of $1 million. For the fillies, the Honeybee (G3), a $300K prep for the Kentucky Oaks. 16:49 Weej reviews the Rebel field, including Baffert colt Newgrange—about whom we have Derby-related questions—and Un Ojo, Texas Red Hot, Stellar Tap, Ben Diesel, Chasing Time , Barber Road, Ethereal Road, and Dash Attack. 23:59 Onto reviewing the 6 entrants for the Honeybee, including Optionality, Yuugiri, Secret Oath, Ice Orchid, Free Like a Girl, and Red Queen. 24:53 We love marquis Saturday racing, but… it's never where we earn the mo$t as bettors. Spectacle is fabulous and exciting, but we love a long shot coming in during a weekday claimer! If you haven't checked it out, we just added a new episode—right before this one—to the #historyandscandals playlist (S2 Ep 8). Of course, it includes coverage of the Baffert/Medina Spirit disqualification from the 2021 Kentucky Derby and the consequences. But in that episode, we also examine the loooong history of doping and the Jockey Club's eerily modern concerns about it, as well as cases of a few more dirtbags (in our non legally-binding opinions): a crooked vet, perpetrating pharmacist, and roving doper, um, trainer. We love making jokes, but love

Da un'intervista di G. Zandonà. (2020).

Ela pode levar a diversas consequências, incluindo a infertilidade. Por isso, trouxemos a ginecologista, Dra. Jéssica Zandoná, para conversar conosco acerca dessa patologia.
