On this special edition of the "Big Fight Weekend Preview" podcast, our Dan Rafael scored a one on one conversation with Regis Prograis, who will battle Jose Zepeda in Las Vegas this Saturday night for the vacant WBC Jr. welterweight world title.Prograis (27-1, 23 KOs), 33, a southpaw from New Orleans, won the WBA title by sixth-round knockout of Kiryl Relikh during the World Boxing Series tournament in April 2019 but lost it by majority decision to Taylor in his first defense, a unification fight in the October 2019 tournament final.Prograis has wanted another title shot since and been vocal about it, especially when he was initially passed over to fight for the vacant WBC and WBA belts. Since the loss to Taylor, Prograis has won three fights in a row, all by knockout. Most recently, he stopped Tyrone McKenna in the sixth round on March 19 in Dubai.Zepeda (35-2, 27 KOs), 33, a southpaw from La Puente, California, will be getting his third title shot. Besides the disputed loss to Ramirez, he suffered a dislocated left shoulder that caused a second-round stoppage loss to Terry Flanagan for the vacant WBO lightweight title in 2015.Zepeda is riding a five-fight winning streak, including a highlight-reel fifth-round knockout of former titlist Ivan Baranchyk in the unforgettable 2020 fight of the year in which they were each knocked down four times and there were knockdowns in every round. In his most recent fight, Zepeda crushed Josue Vargas in the first round in October.Their bout will stream Saturday night through MarvNation PP, Fite TV and PPV.com.Make sure you are following/subscribing to the Big Fight Weekend podcast feed for great content like this on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google, etc.!!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/big-fight-weekend/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman once again spoke with our colleagues Chris Baldwin of the WAAR Room (https://waarsports.com) and Malissa Smith of Girlboxing (https://girlboxing.org) on the WAAR Room. A video of this discussion has also been posted on the WAAR Sports YouTube page (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMW16qQlnyWR-xyd2jZF1IA).We spoke with them Sunday, October 31.We had a busy weekend of boxing with two fantastic championship women's bouts including the first of two Super Lightweight unification bouts. This weekend the WBC/IBF unification battle was fought between between the WBC British fighter Chantelle Cameron (15-0, 8 KOs) and the IBF American champion Mary McGee (27-4, 15 KOs). The pair battled wall-to-wall for ten rounds with Cameron showing the superior boxing skills, getting the undisputed win and the first Ring Magazine Championship belt to boot. The second amazing women's boxing battle was between two veteran Mexican fighters: Jackie Nava (39-4-4, 16 KOs) and Mariana Juarez (55-11-4, 19 KOs) in a Super Bantamweight WBC Diamond Belt match. Much as other rivalries in boxing, the Nava/Jaurez fight took many, many years to get on the books—but was truly worth the wait. Both fighters are 41 years of age, but one could easily have assumed they were at least ten years younger. Both brought top-notch skills and ring savvy into the bout, but it was Nava who showed levels of boxing prowess that proved her to be the better fighter.Multi-divisional boxing champion Claressa Shields also had her second MMA fight this past week, and it did not go her way, as she lost a split decision to Abigail Montes. Shields is scheduled to return to the boxing ring December 11, and we shall see how her foray into the MMA cage has affected her boxing skills, if at all. Also this past week, there were a pair of first-round knockouts, as Jaron "Boots" Ennis stopped veteran Thomas Dulorme in Las Vegas, as did Jose Zepeda to Josue Vargas in New York. There was also a main event upset, as favorite Jamal James was stopped by Radzhab Butaev in the ninth round, also in Las Vegas. We discussed these fights and more on this edition of the show. All this is part of our in-depth coverage of the corrupt world of boxing and sports governance in general. Please also subscribe to the No Holds Barred page on Patreon for much more exclusive premium No Holds Barred content, at https://www.patreon.com/join/eddiegoldman/checkout.Now you can also support our independent, No Holds Barred journalism by purchasing items such as T-shirts, hoodies, tank tops, mugs, pillows, masks, and even mini-skirts at the new No Holds Barred with Eddie Goldman shop on Redbubble. Robert Winfree and Mark Radulich provide alternative commentary for Jose Zepeda vs Josue Vargas in 10 rounds of boxing on Top Rank Boxing on ESPN+! Zepeda (34-2, 21 KOs) is unbeaten in five bouts since a tight majority decision loss to then-WBC world champion Jose Ramirez in February 2019. The slick-boxing Zepeda participated in the 2020 Fight of the Year. He knocked out Ivan Baranchyk in the fifth round of a bout that featured eight total knockdowns. He returned in May on the Josh Taylor-Ramirez undercard and outboxed “Hammerin” Hank Lundy over 10 rounds. Zepeda hopes a win over Vargas leads to a Ramirez rematch or perhaps a crack at undisputed king Taylor. Vargas (19-1, 9 KOs) earned his nickname as a wunderkind in the Bronx, where he compiled a 72-8 amateur record and won six New York City Metro championships. Apart from a controversial disqualification loss early in his pro career, Vargas has been near-perfect. He fought twice in 2020 inside the MGM Grand Bubble, notching wide points wins over Salvador Briceno and Kendo Castaneda. He last fought April 24 in Kissimmee, Florida, and turned back the awkward challenge of Willie Shaw over 10 rounds. Can't believe we've made it to episode 14 already! This guest is really special for us, someone who has been recommended from the beginning of the Based days. Introducing Lando & The Infinite Sadness, a musical project by Josue Vargas to fuse his affinity for jazz/hip-hop/emo/neo soul. Lando released Dark Matter early this year, and has gained overwhelming support ever since. Believe it or not, Lando is essentially a one man band. He is able to lay down the drums, bass, guitar, and keys on every record and then hands it over to a trusted friend to polish with sax. Vargas produced the bulk of Dark Matter with little more than a laptop, a MIDI keyboard, and a bass guitar. As a huge fan of jazz and accompanying genres, he is able to morph his sound to reflect his influences, while keeping fresh and pushing the creative envelope. In this episode, Lando highlights some of the records on this project, talks to us about his creative process in and out of COVID, and debuts some exclusive unreleased special tracks. He also talks about working with other musicians in Miami and multiple musical projects with different sounds. Lando was such a pleasure to have as a guest, Jordie + Cate are so grateful for opportunities like these! If you like what you heard, follow us on Instagram @based90.5! Thanks for your support + DM us for appearances.
