It's ten years since Jason Quigley became the first Irishman to reach the final of the World Championships In a breakout 2013, he won his first Irish Elite title, followed up with European senior gold and then reached the decider of the Worlds in Russia, going down to Zhanibek Alimkhanuly of Kazakhstan. It was to be his last amateur contest. Since then he's operated as a professional boxer, graced some of the finest venues in the world, rubbed shoulders with legends and fought for the world title in 2021. Quigley has a few more strings to his bow as well, carving out a niche as a media commentator in the sport and recently, making moves into fighter management and promotion. It's been 13 years since professional boxing was staged in Donegal but on November 18, Quigley and his partners at Elite Sheer are bringing it back. His old amateur team-mate Joe Ward will headline the event and here, Jason talks about sparring sessions with ‘Mighty Joe', identifying with Oscar De La Hoya's well-publicised troubles, separating the man from the boxer, his last outing against Edgar Berlanga and a future in the sport – inside and outside the ropes. On this episode of Slip The Jab, we recap Valentina Shevchenko getting robbed at UFC Noche, how judge Mike Bell handed Alexa Grasso a bulletproof vest by getting paid off to give her a 10-8 in the 5th, and break down the fight round by round. We also recap the bonus, winners and highlights of what we both felt was the best Fight Night event in years. We also give our Slip Picks and Ianalysis for UFC Vegas, 79; Rafael Fiziev vs. Mateusz Gamrot, Cyril Gane saying he doesn't want to fight Tom Aspinall unless it's for the UFC title, D Tier basketball player James Johnson thinking he can beat Jon Jones after only a year of training, and Sam Alvey beating the scale by using the towel trick at Karate Combat. We also talk about the Oscar De La Hoya documentary and him getting ab implants, which leads us down another plastic surgery road and Lino saying he wants hair plugs if he ever loses his hair. Lino thinks the Alex Pereira's kids pranking him was staged, but Ian has similar stories, Lino tells a story of his own about getting expelled from high school for a day, and as always we end with our Post Fight Song of the Week. Adam welcomes radio personality and voice actor Phil Hendrie for a comical look at some ‘Crank Yankers' prank calls, as well as some of Phil's classic voices and characters that were so realistic people thought they were in fact, real. We find he essentially created the original ‘Karen' with one of his character voices. We also hear a hilarious clip of a past radio host blasting Adam, in which Adam explains the nature of the entire misunderstanding. Chris introduces some entertaining news of the day starting with the controversy surrounding Spanish soccer chief Luis Rubiales. Adam has some saucy opinions on the entire debacle. In entertainment, Jimmy Kimmel and a comedian crew of other late night hosts have teamed up on a podcast called, ‘Strike Force 5' wherein all the proceeds go to out of work staff from the writer's strike. Adam then welcomes businesswoman and former sports broadcaster Holly Sonders to discuss an upcoming topless sports league she created. Holly combines her own knowledge and experience with sports to create a titillating, one of a kind entertainment service and talks to Adam about all the nitty gritty of her alluring new service. She and Adam also discuss her relationship with Oscar De La Hoya and a tattoo of the boxer on her back that was essentially a gift for Oscar. On this episode, we talk about the rise of Jake Paul in the ring. From a YouTube hellion and obnoxious Influencer to a boxing star, Jake Paul has become one of the truly improbable sports transformations of the 21st century. He may be polarizing and milage varies greatly on his likability. But as a celebrity committed to a sudden calling after a quarter life crises and cultural cancellation, Jake Paul is a pretty remarkable figure, who has only proved himself time and time again as a formidable contender against a ragtag albeit talented group of ex-MMA fighters and seasoned athletes. Is this a puff piece? If the ubiquity of Prime drinks is any indication, the Paul brothers' trademark self-mythology and promotional acuity is all over this thing. And there's no doubt the Jake Paul has some warranted behind-the-scenes stains on his past — along with some overblown controversies. He's played the heel, the villain, the antihero, and the problem child for years, making a killing out of marketing himself as the person people want to see being pummeled in the ring. What's crazy is that the opposite happens, repeatedly, putting the likes of Mike Tyson, Oscar De La Hoya, the Fury family, and Dana White on blast as they're forced to chew their words, eat crow, and watch in awe. Whether you're frothing at the bit to see where Paul's boxing career goes next or prefer to hate watch one of Influencer culture's prime public enemies, there's no denying that the entertainment factor is off-the-charts. He may be a douchebag, a shameless self-marketer, a chauvinist, or whatever, but he's also chosen a wise venue to pursue: a space of pugilistic primality where one's moral shortcomings and social pretenses are stripped away by the savage ferocity of sparring and spectacle. Carrying the dying sport of boxing on his bulky tattooed back, Jake Paul is a bleach-haired pug with a rabid will to power. He's as American, for better and worse, as an acidic apple pie smashed straight to the jugular.

The golden left hook, the golden looks, and the Olympic gold medal - Oscar De La Hoya was The Golden Boy. On July 24 HBO released the 2-part documentary THE GOLDEN BOY. A must watch for any fan of the sport of boxing and for non-fans it's an interesting look at a man who seemingly had it all, yet still faced serious struggles in his personal life. De La Hoya was the classic case of women wanting him and men wanting to be him. A gold medalist, an 11-time world champion, and a successful promoter and businessman. What more could someone want? As with all success stories though there were definitely trials and tribulations to be overcome. Join our conversation as we discuss the documentary and the fighter who could be considered one of the greatest of all time. Floyd Mayweather's victory over Oscar de la Hoya was a star-making performance, yet many seem to disagree with the final decision. That makes it a good fight to revisit and re-score. There was also a small matter of Oscar de la Hoya's recent "documentary" to discuss. "The Golden Boy" recently debuted on HBO's streaming service, and might figure into the Mayweather-De la Hoya discussion more than previously realized. We have a murder, while he's still in the womb, more death & murder, before the age of 8. He also joined a gang, had a major concussion, and fought drunken adults for money, at the behest of his grandfather. All before the age of 12. Then he starts boxing, and gets VERY into cocaine! Pure crazy!Watch a pregnant woman be launched from a bus window when you're 7, fight adult men at age 10, so your grandfather can win a few bets, and love cocaine more than ship captains love ships with Johnny Tapia!!Check us out, every Tuesday! We will continue to bring you the biggest idiots in sports history!! Hour 3: Eddie thinks CBS Sports Network's Stephen Waldron looks like Oscar De La Hoya. Gio doesn't think so at all. In less than an hour we will know if Boomer is going into the Bengals Ring of Honor this year. Ken Rosenthal reported that the Yankees could look to “buy and sell” at the trade deadline in order to get under their current luxury tax tier. CLo returns and the three guys watch the British Open together. Gio wants to hear the old Bengals fight song. The Yankees did not play very well in Anaheim. Carlos Rodon struggled and blew a kiss to a heckling fan. Aaron Judge thinks it would be exciting to watch Shohei Ohtani break his single-season HR record. The Mets had a nice and tidy win. In the final segment of the hour, Gio tells Boomer about a story he heard Joe & Evan talk about. There's poop in the water in Ibiza.
The legendary boxer joins Boomer & Gio to discuss the new documentary on his life premiering on HBO.
Does someone on the show's staff look like Oscar De La Hoya?
Hour 4: The Bengals announced that Boomer will be inducted into their Ring of Honor this September along with Chad Johnson. Boomer is very grateful to be honored by the Bengals. Spike thinks Gio is trying to steal Boomer's moment. Yusef is here to congratulate Boomer. Gio wants to be in Cinci for the ceremony. CLo returns for his final update of the day and Gio makes sure everyone has a Boomer Bengals jersey on. Evan puked while wearing the one Gio has. Al records a congratulations message for Boomer. Josh Harris will take over control of the Commanders today. Moment of the Day features a potential Oscar De La Hoya look-a-like on the show's staff. In the final segment of the day, Boomer looks back on his days with the Bengals and how he ended up being drafted by the team.
Hour 1: The Bengals Ring of Honor announcement will be made at 9am. If Boomer is not inducted then Gio will send a strongly written letter he has already written to the Bengals brass and season ticket holders. Boomer knows he will get in when the time is right. Jeff Hostetler is putting together a project involving Boomer and other QBs. Jets players are in camp and we're excited. Will Mekhi Becton be traded like Denzel Mims was? CLo is in for Jerry today and can't wait until 9am to find out if Boomer is going into the Bengals Ring of Honor this year. Carlos Rodon was knocked around by the Angels as the Yankees were swept. Rodon blew a fan a kiss after giving up a home run. Rodon and his wife understand what's being asked of him. Is Sean Casey already regretting taking the hitting coach job? The Yankees are a mess. The Mets eat the White Sox again. Brett Baty homered for a second straight night and Justin Verlander gave up one run in eight innings. Denzel Mims is being traded to the Lions and Mekhi Becton is down 50 pounds. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer and Gio don't think Carlos Rodon blowing a kiss was that bad. They do think many current Yankees are bad. Are players like Anthony Rizzo just done? Hour 2: We will be at Jets camp on August 14th and Giants camp the next day. Gio wants to be on “Hard Knocks”. We are world famous, after all. Boomer shows Gio a prototype of a “man bucket” that Yeti is already working on. Denzel Mims is no longer a Jet. Gio can't believe the Jets got something back for Mims but the Vikings couldn't even get late picks for Dalvin Cook. A picture on Twitter yesterday makes us think the Jets are getting ready to unveil a throwback jersey. The Bengals and Browns went after each other…on Twitter. Gio loves the Vikings throwback jersey. CLo returns for an update and begins with the Yankees getting swept by the Angels. Carlos Rodon's ERA is over 7 in 3 Yankees starts. Is there any chance Don Mattingly could be the next Yankees manager? Do the Yankees stink right now or suck right now? Is there a difference? The Mets won their third in a row. Jose Quintana will finally make his Mets debut today. Doc Gooden was with Shohei Ohtani recently. He tweeted a picture with eyes emoji and Sal had a chance to ask Doc about it on SNY. In the final segment of the hour, Oscar De La Hoya joins the guys in studio. A two-part documentary about his life and struggles premieres next week on HBO. Hour 3: Eddie thinks CBS Sports Network's Stephen Waldron looks like Oscar De La Hoya. Gio doesn't think so at all. Spike thinks Gio is trying to steal Boomer's moment. Yusef is here to congratulate Boomer. Gio wants to be in Cinci for the ceremony.
