Teofimo Lopez is a champion again; so what does that mean for the welterweight division? We now have three stars holding titles: Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, and Teofimo Lopez – the lone outlier, Liam Paro, the IBF titleholder, who everyone will call out. Lopez beat Rolando Romero via a low-speed majority decision; that result makes the bout seem more interesting than it was. So what is next? Unification? Mega-fights? Inactivity? Also, Moses Itauama returns against Filip Hrgovic. The fight is on pay-per-view. YAY! A few things. How good is Itauama, and do fans in the U.S. care? It seems like the U.K. is enamoured, but unlike Anthony Joshua, Itauama doesn't seem to have anyone casually talking about his rise. In this episode, Lukie and Dakota talk about the career of Claressa Shields. Shields is, on paper, the most decorated women's boxer ever – two Olympic gold medals, multi-division undisputed champion – you name it, she has done it. Yet, in her match-up with Kaye Scott, there is still a subtle tone of indifference. Shields fought for the past couple of years at light heavyweight and heavyweight partially as a marketing ploy and partially out of a weight class she could enjoy life at. Now, she is going back down to middleweight, where she has had a ton of success, to face Scott. We talk about her career and what is at stake. Three years ago, this would have been massive; now it just is what it is. A solid fight, but a lot of lingering “What ifs?” Does Spence still have it? He is more Serhii Bohachuk than he is Lomachenko. Nishant Dev is always a nice treat to see on a card as well. Also, on Sunday at Zuffa Boxing, Edgar Berlanga will make his promotional debut against Steven Butler. Richardson Hitchins will face Ricardo Salas, not an easy debut, and middleweight Sergiy Derevyanchenko will open the main telecast against Jalil Hackett. The undercard is solid with Otto Wallin facing Vladyslav Sirenko, and the promotional debut of Dominique Francis. A good 50-50 fight between Arnold Gonzalez and Emiliano Moreno, and as always, featherweight Troy Nash Jr is must-see TV as he faces unbeaten Ethan Perez.This week, we saw Diego Pacheco stop Immanuwel Aleem.
