Jack Kelly has been making waves in the pool since graduating from Brown University last year. The 3x NCAA finalist in the breaststroke events decided he would give pro swimming a go and moved to Austin to train with Bob Bowman. Since making the move, Kelly has progressed immensely, not only going best times in all 3 breaststroke distances, but showing a ton of consistency throughout the last year. He broke the 1:00 barrier for the first time in December, but has since dipped under it on 6 different occasions. He's also been under the 27-second barrier in the 50 breast twice and the 2:10 barrier once in the 200. He's qualified to swim all 3 events at the European championships in August. Kelly discusses what it's been like training with Bowman, racing in the Ivy League, and being a lifelong New York Knicks fan.

The Giants get the spotlight of Sunday Night Football against the Cowboys, but the payoff comes with a cost: a chance to prove this is a new era, or risk hearing the same old Cowboys-Giants jokes immediately. Follow on Spotify and leave a 5-star rating on Apple Podcasts if you enjoy no-BS Giants debate. The Big Question: Can the Giants prove the John Harbaugh era is different in Week 1? They do not have to treat Cowboys Week 1 like a must-win, but they do have to look organized, physical, and ready enough to show this team is not stuck in the same old cycle. Can Week 1 change the whole mood?Drew and Rob open with the story Giants fans could not ignore: Cowboys at Giants in Week 1 on Sunday Night Football. The frustration is obvious because this matchup has been used again and again as a season-opening measuring stick, and the Giants have usually been on the wrong side of it. But this one feels different because John Harbaugh, Jaxson Dart, and a changed roster give the Giants a real chance to show that the reset is not just offseason talk. The guys are careful not to call it a must-win, but they explain why it carries more weight than a normal opener. If the Giants show up and punch back, the conversation around the team changes immediately. If they get embarrassed again, the national reaction becomes predictable: nothing changed. That is the cost of opening against Dallas in primetime. Can the defense answer the first real test? The biggest football question becomes the Giants secondary. Dallas brings CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens into the matchup, which puts immediate pressure on Paulson Adebo, Deonte Banks, Greg Newsome, and rookie Colton Hood. Drew and Rob break down why the pass rush may be the key to everything: if the Giants can get after Dak Prescott, the secondary has a chance. If Dak has time, the Cowboys' receiver talent becomes a problem fast. They also flip the matchup and look at why the Cowboys defense may not be as scary as the name brand suggests. The Giants offense could have answers even if Malik Nabers is not fully available, with Jaxson Dart, Cam Skattebo, Darius Slayton, Theo Johnson, Malachi Fields, and the rest of the group giving the offense more paths than it had last year.Which rookie actually mattered most? The second half of the show shifts into rookie minicamp, where Drew and Rob sort through the usual “everybody looks great” camp optimism and focus on what actually stood out. Colton Hood gets the most attention after a pick-six and a celebration story that says something about his confidence and humility. The staff reportedly loved his press work, which matters because the Giants need him to become more than just a camp story.Arvell Reese and Jack Kelly drew praise for not missing assignments. Francis Mauigoa's transition to guard gets discussed after his offseason work with Jalen Rivers and former Giant Jon Feliciano. Malachi Fields showed why his size can matter in the red zone. Dominic Zvada looked steady in windy conditions. Guy Gilyard drew attention because there is no hiding a 6-foot-8, 410-pound tackle. Drew and Rob also hit on tryout names like Miles Davis, Michael Jackson III, Josiah Deguara, and Quinton Bell before closing with what is coming next on the show.Merch: https://2giantgoofballs-shop.fourthwall.com/ Support: https://buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballs All episodes: https://2giantgoofballs.buzzsprout.com/Send us Fan MailSupport the show

Anthony and Alex recap all seven rounds of the draft, grading each pick and discussing how these rookies fit into John Harbaugh's vision for the future. We dive deep into the selection of Arvell Reese at #5, the transition of Francis Mauigoa to the interior, and why Day 2 "steals" like Colton Hood and Malachi Fields might be the missing pieces for a playoff run. The Giants walked away with Arvell Reese, Francis Mauigoa, Colton Hood, Malachi Fields, and a tougher-looking draft class, but the cost of trading up for Fields is the move that could backfire. Did Joe Schoen build a more physical Giants roster, or did he pay too much for a receiver who still has real projection risk?Follow the show on Spotify so you never miss a Giants reaction episode. If you listen on Apple Podcasts, leave us a 5-star rating and review to help more Giants fans find the show.Drew and Rob break down the full New York Giants draft class and give their grades after a weekend that brought excitement, surprise, and plenty of debate. The episode starts with Arvell Reese at No. 5, a pick the guys viewed as a shock because they did not expect him to fall that far. Reese is discussed as a true linebacker, not just an edge rusher, with the ability to stop the run, blitz, spy mobile quarterbacks, and move around enough to make the defense more dangerous. From there, the conversation turns to Francis Mauigoa at No. 10, the pick acquired through the Dexter Lawrence trade. The big debate is not just Mauigoa himself, but the fact that the Giants passed on Caleb Downs twice. Drew and Rob argue that Mauigoa may not be the flashy pick, but protecting Jaxson Dart and building a tougher offensive line matters more than chasing the sexier name. They frame him as a possible guard early, a mauling run blocker, and a tone-setting piece for the kind of offense John Harbaugh and Greg Roman want to build.Colton Hood may be the pick Drew loved most. The show digs into why Hood fits Dennard Wilson's defense, why his press-man style matters, and why the Texans trading up for Kayden McDonald right before the Giants does not automatically mean the Giants got jumped. Hood is praised as a physical, confident outside corner with real swagger and a path to becoming a major piece in the secondary. The strongest argument of the episode comes with Malachi Fields. The Giants traded picks 105, 145, and a future fourth to move up to No. 74, and Drew makes it clear he thinks that was too much. Rob pushes back by arguing that if Fields becomes the player the Giants believe he can be, the cost may end up looking justified. That becomes the central tension of the episode: is the value of the player enough to excuse the price of the move? Fields brings size, contested-catch ability, blocking value, and a different body type to the receiver room, but the concerns about separation and the cost of the trade keep this from being a clean win.The episode closes with the Day 3 picks, including Bobby Jamison-Travis, J.C. Davis, and Jack Kelly. Jamison-Travis is discussed as a true run-stopping defensive tackle with a real chance to earn a rotational role after the Dexter Lawrence trade. Davis is viewed as a powerful run blocker with possible guard projection if the Giants can clean up his pass-blocking technique. Kelly is framed as a tough, old-school linebacker and special teams candidate who could eventually become a fan favorite.Drew gives the draft a B-plus, while Rob lands at an A-minus. The disagreement is not about whether the Giants got more physical. They did. The disagreement is whether the Malachi Fields trade-up was smart aggression or an overpay that lowered the ceiling of the class grade. Giants fans, what letter grade are you giving this draft: A, B, C, D, or F — and which pick made or broke the grade for you?Merch: https://2giantgoofballs-shop.fourthwall.com/Support: https://buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballsAll episodes: Send us Fan MailSupport the show

Barryroe National School in Bandon, Co. Cork, has done it again, taking home the top prize at the Engineers Ireland STEPS Young Engineers Award for the second consecutive year. The national competition, which saw over 12,000 primary school students register in 2025, challenges children to dream up engineering solutions that can make life better in their communities. More than 270 volunteer engineers, trained through the STEPS programme, visited participating 3rd and 4th classes nationwide to support students' ideas. This year's winning creation, Sole Extenders, is an ingenious shoe prototype with a built-in hydraulic lift designed to help people safely reach high shelves without the need for stools or ladders. Developed by team The Engines – third-class pupils Saoirse Twomey, Willow Frankish, Jack Kelly, Edward Casey, Byron Hourihane and Cathal O'Regan – the device aims to reduce injury risk and boost independence. Drumcrave National School in Stragelliff, Co. Cavan, was named runner-up for its forward-thinking project, TTS Community Water Supply. Created by Tech Titans – Amber Kelly, Evan Lee and Rían McManus Kearns – the team impressed judges with a timer app that tracks household water usage, connects to real-time local water-supply levels, and alerts users to shortages. Designed to raise awareness, reduce bills and encourage more mindful water use, the project showcases how young engineers can empower entire communities to adopt more sustainable habits. Left to right: Runners-up of the Young Engineers Award winners 2025-2026, Evan Lee, Amber Kelly, Rián McManus Kearns of Drumcrave National School in Stragelliff, Co. It's President's Day and Y's Guys delivers one of the most consequential shows of the season. With Richie Saunders lost for the year after tearing his ACL just 45 seconds into Saturday's game, BYU basketball faces a defining stretch. Dave McCann and Brian Logan (in for Blaine Fowler) break down what this means for the Cougars heading into a massive road test at Arizona and a home showdown with Iowa State. Later in the show, newly retired jersey honoree Jimmer Fredette joins live to reflect on his rafters moment — and to offer insight on how a team survives losing a key player late in the season. On the football side, serious developments surround former receiver Parker Kingston, and the program now turns its attention to what the receivers room looks like moving forward. The show carefully follows its standard protocol: allowing the legal process to unfold without speculation while analyzing roster implications. BYUtv analyst David Nixon joins to discuss spring practice goals, defensive staff changes, NFL Combine invitees Chase Roberts and Jack Kelly, and what a Kelly Poppinga-led defense might look and feel like. The Re-Lyte Athlete of the Week honors Rob Wright III, who exploded for 30 points at Baylor and followed it up with a 39-point masterpiece against Colorado — carrying the Cougars with Saunders sidelined. Meanwhile, AJ Dybantsa continues his historic freshman campaign, closing in on Danny Ainge's freshman scoring record as BYU remains firmly in the NCAA Tournament picture despite one of the toughest remaining schedules in the country.Campus Notes highlight national track and field dominance — including Riley Chamberlain's NCAA mile record — strong performances in volleyball, baseball, tennis, and golf, and the release of BYU women's soccer's Big 12 schedule. With powerful interviews, heartfelt tributes to Patti Edwards, and honest discussion about navigating adversity, the February 16 show blends emotion, accountability, and championship-level analysis.#BYUSports #GoCougs #Ysguys #BYUBasketball #BYUFootball #Big12 #JimmerFredette #RobWrightIII #AJDybantsa #CougarNation #LDS #BYU Hosted on Acast. Most of us only know Thomas Paine for one thing: writing Common Sense in 1776, which helped kickstart the Revolution by selling hundreds of thousands of copies. But he was far more than a writer. Paine actively served with George Washington's army during its darkest days and then used his pen to advocate for global freedom in both the French Revolution and against organized religion. His revolutionary fervor spanned the globe, leading him to champion the French Revolution with Rights of Man and challenge religious orthodoxy in The Age of Reason/ Paine's later involvement with the French Revolution, his Enlightenment opinions, and his unorthodox view of religion plunged his reputation into a controversy that continues to this day. Today’s guest is Jack Kelly, author of “Tom Paine's War: The Words That Rallied a Nation and the Founder for Our Time.” We look at how Paine shaped the war. He convinced the colonies that war should grow from a reform movement to a full revolution: The entire British system of hereditary monarchy and aristocratic rule was a form of tyranny, making the case that separation from Great Britain the only logical course for America.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Few figures of the American Revolution wielded words as powerfully as Thomas Paine. In this episode of the Revolution 250 Podcast, host Professor Robert Allison is joined by historian and journalist Jack Kelly, author of Tom Paine's War, for a wide-ranging conversation about Paine's outsized influence on the Revolutionary cause.Kelly explores how Paine's pamphlet Common Sense transformed colonial resistance into a popular movement for independence, reaching audiences far beyond elite political circles. The discussion traces Paine's role as a wartime propagandist, the impact of The American Crisis during the darkest days of the war, and George Washington's strategic use of Paine's words to sustain morale in the Continental Army. The episode also examines Paine's complicated personality, his transatlantic radicalism, and his uneasy place in the postwar United States, where the man who helped ignite the Revolution found himself increasingly marginalized. Together, Allison and Kelly consider why Paine mattered so deeply in his own time and why his ideas about liberty, democracy, and popular sovereignty continue to resonate 250 years later.A compelling look at the power of ideas in wartime America, this episode reminds us that the Revolution was fought not only with muskets and cannon, but with ink, paper, and the force of persuasion.Tell us what you think!
