Our National Parks are important places, not just for their preservation of natural beauty and resources, but also for the economic impact they bring to gateway communities. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan's Upper Peninsula sees nearly a million visitors, year round. For the anchor cities of Munising and Grand Marais, hosting those folks has become their chief industry. With a population of less than 2,000, how do they do it? In this episode of the Lake Superior Podcast, Walt Lindala and Frida Waara talk with Kathy Reynolds, the CEO of the Greater Munising Bay Partnership as well as Director of the Alger County Chamber of Commerce to learn more.Key Takeaways:Munising, Michigan, has transformed into a premier tourism destination, with Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore playing a central role in attracting visitors.Tourism is now the leading industry in Alger County, supporting local businesses, entrepreneurs, and the community year-round.Despite Munising's small population of under 2,000 residents, the area welcomes nearly one million visitors annually, requiring careful planning and infrastructure management. The Michigan Ice Fest, the oldest ice climbing festival in North America, draws climbers from around the world and highlights Munising's appeal as a winter recreation destination.Even though Munising has a strong tourism sector, it also has a diverse economy that includes manufacturing and public services, making it more resilient to seasonal fluctuations.Notable Quotes:"I also tell people you should live where you want to vacation. Why just say, ‘Oh, I get to spend a week. Every once in a while I go someplace'? I wanted to live in a place that I wanted to vacation.""I would say, and maybe I'm a little biased, that it is probably one of, if the most beautiful places in the whole Midwest. It's easy to market the area and get people to come."“Winter season can be extremely beautiful, and this year we are living in a snow globe all over the area of Munising.”“Preservation of the park and our natural resources - that's why people come up to the Upper Peninsula. Protecting those and making sure they stay nice is critical to our economy.”"The people that come to Munising and visit our national park, they not only help us in our community, but they help all the communities outside of us in the U.P."Resources:Greater Munising Bay Partnership: munising.org – Learn more about Munising and its economic development initiatives.Alger County Chamber of Commerce: algercountychamber.com – Discover local businesses and visitor information.Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore: www.nps.gov/piro/index.htm – Explore the stunning landscapes and recreational opportunities in the park.Michigan Ice Fest: michiganicefest.com – Learn about the premier ice climbing event in Munising.Connect With Us:Website: nplsf.org/podcastFacebook: www.facebook.com/NationalParksOfLakeSuperiorFoundationLinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/national-parks-of-lake-superior-foundationSponsors:Cafe Imports: Supporting environmental sustainability in coffee-growing regions since 1993. The field of Sex Addiction has grown and expanded immensely over the last two decades, and as a result the field has a much greater understanding of not only the betraying partner but the betrayed. However, those who were in early childhood, perhaps teens, two decades ago have since grown into adulthood. As a result the sex addiction field is rapidly picking up pace in gaining an understanding of what the effects were on the children of these addicts. In this interview we hope to address hard questions, like, "How could a parent's sex addiction or betrayal effect a child who might not have known what was going on?" We will also debunk some common myths, such as, "My children knew everything, so they have processed it all." Conrad and Kathy Reynolds interview Carley Pool for this powerful and important session.

Betrayal can be devastating to your partner and your relationship, but many couples still love one another and are committed to mending their relationships. In order to do this, it is important for the unfaithful party to understand the traumatic nature of betrayal, and understand how to respond sensitively to their partner's pain. It is also critical they adopt a stance of honesty, transparency and commitment in their relationships. This often includes participating in a facilitated disclosure and emotional restitution process. Join APSATS trained coach Kathy Reynolds and APSATS founding president, Dr. Barbara Steffens, for this powerful conversation. Today is part one of two conversations with coach Kathy Reynolds, who talks about her own journey of disclosure, loss, and redemption in her marriage. Stay tuned for part two when we get into the nitty gritty of what to do and not to do in the dangerous waters of full disclosure. As promised...a bit late, below is the poem Singing Warriors by Paige that was read a couple shows back. Singing Warriors By Paige The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, But will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17 We serve a God who is a Warrior who sings. And, He enables us to be singing warriors. Just as he fights for us, he has invited us to join Him in the battle. And, the enemy is not our husbands. The enemy is the one who has ensnared our husbands. The one who has deceived them and blinded them. The one who is out to steal, kill, and destroy. The one who uses darkness and hiddenness. Who tempts and then, when the deed is done, Heaps on shame so that returning to God (and to us) feels unbearable. So, we find ourselves here in this place. In this battle that we didn’t see coming. That we didn’t sign up for. That has knocked us to the ground. And often leaves us as a puddle on the floor. But, again and again we rise up, Slowly, hesitantly. Inch by inch rising to take our place as warriors. To fight against the enemy. To fight for truth. To fight for health. We fight for our husbands. And, as we do so, we are fighting for our marriages. For our children. For future generations. But, even if the marriage is not restored. We choose to pray. We want to see every Christian man (and woman) Walk free of sexual brokenness. Welk free of hiddenness. Walk free of broken vows. Walk free of regrets. God also invites us to sing. To worship Him even as the all-too-familiar tears Find their paths down our faces once again. He invites us to cling to His goodness even in the midst of the storm. He invites us to join Him in the song He sings over our husbands. The song of redemption. The song of forgiveness. The song of resurrection. The song that calls out the spark that God put inside our men— That image of God that is there. That always has the potential to choose… Redemption, Hatred of sin, Recovery, Restoration, Empathy Coming out of isolation and Walking in community. We join this song because of love. Because even though we have been hurt more than we ever dreamed possible, We also believe in the man we fell in love with. We believe that he can be the man He was created to be. We believe he can walk in honesty. We believe he can resist temptation. We believe he can learn to love. We believe this because he is God’s beloved, too. We believe this because we know the God of the impossible. We believe this because we believe in the power of the gospel. Because we believe in both truth and grace. However, if the man we love chooses to remain… Remain in his lies Remain in the darkness Remain in his pattern of giving into temptation Remain in choosing death over life… We will still know that we have a Singing Warrior Who delights in us and who saves us. We know no matter what happens We are loved by the One who knows us best By the One who weeps when we weep And by the One who understands betrayal all too well.
Carol interviews Kathy Reynolds and Jake Porter who practice couple-centered recovery. These exports feel like it not only improves relationships that are riddled with addiction but they also treat the relational trauma and trauma reactions that have occured as a result of the SA trauma and the earlier childhood traumas as well. They will be explaining their model and the benefit to the coupleship.
Who of us hasn’t done something crazy for love? Good and bad. "Love” or passion or just “fun” sometimes take over. But have you, or someone you know, ever crossed that invisible line and made choices that seem, well.…excessive? Or even harmful or irrational? Delphi Medina, a Clinical Consultant, Therapist & Addiction Specialist joins Beth this week to talk about the dark side of sex, SEX ADDICTION. Don't be fooled into thinking this is only a celebrity issue; it's all around you. Around all of us. It's likely hiding in the homes of people you know and love; your friends or neighbors or family’s. No one is immune; yet most of us are unaware. Our only recourse to this growing problem is breaking the shameful silence that accompanies the issues; and Beth understands that all too well. And yet, through the darkness comes opportunity for goodness. Kathy Reynolds shares her journey as a wife of a sex addict and now professional coach to other partners. Her experiences and hard earned lessons about how to make sex great no matter the issues you face in your relationship prove that Love and Laughter are possible even after hardship. Don't miss this special and important episode.
