Have you ever felt completely worn out, uninspired, or exhausted… but you couldn't quite explain why?In this episode, I want to talk about something I believe is at the root of so much burnout: misalignment. It's not always that you're doing too much — sometimes it's that you're doing too much of what doesn't actually align with who you are.Alignment isn't just a trendy word. Alignment is when your values match your calendar, your beliefs match your decisions, and your faith matches your actions. When those things line up, there may still be hard work, but there's also joy, peace, and internal fulfillment. When they don't, exhaustion shows up fast.I share how I've personally had to recalibrate throughout my career — stepping off boards, saying no to good things that didn't feed my soul, and learning that all change initially feels like loss. But staying misaligned costs far more: your energy, your peace, your momentum, and eventually your health. One of the biggest indicators of alignment isn't excitement — it's peace. You can be walking through something challenging and still know you're in the right lane. Misalignment, on the other hand, shows up as irritation, restlessness, and feeling off without knowing why.In this episode, I challenge you to do an alignment check:Is your calendar aligned with what truly matters to you?Are you spending time with people who reflect your values? Are you honoring who you are becoming — not just who you used to be?Alignment doesn't require burning your life down. It's built through small, intentional steps. Saying no. Making adjustments. Choosing discipline. Getting quiet enough to ask where your soul feels the most alive. There's never been a more important time to tune out the noise and live authentically. When you live aligned, the right people find you, your peace returns, and your purpose becomes clearer.Because the truth is this:There is nothing more fulfilling than living in alignment with who you were created to be.Connect With Us:Website: https://www.youaremore.comFree Download: 5 Steps to Win Through AdversitySocial Media: Follow us on Facebook and InstagramEmail: amy@amywienands.comEpisode Minute By Minute:00:00 – Why exhaustion isn't always about doing too much01:00 – What alignment actually means02:10 – How misalignment shows up as burnout03:20 – Looking at your calendar honestly04:25 – Why good things can still drain you05:30 – All change initially feels like loss06:40 – Authenticity and living aligned07:50 – The car alignment analogy09:00 – The biggest indicator of alignment: peace10:20 – You don't need to blow your life up11:40 – Small steps into alignment13:00 – Finding where your soul feels most alive14:45 – Alignment looks different for everyone16:10 – Why recalibration is necessary over time17:40 – Walking in endurance without losing yourself18:45 – Final encouragement: living aligned on purposeBe intentional, stay focused, and remember you are more!
In this episode, we get to speak with both mom and dad! We love when we get to chat with a home birth couple and hear both perspectives from the decision-making process to the experience itself. So we're chatting with Jarmar and Jonnelle Dupas. They live in Austin, Texas with their 4 children. Their switch to home birth happened with their most recent baby, Jase. For them, they were interested in something different and evolving from some of the coldness they noticed in the hospital setting. They had always used midwives with their births, so transitioning into home seemed like the next step. Jarmar and Jonnelle both described their home birth as much more peaceful. Basically, a thousand times better and something they would've done sooner had they known. A highlight from their story is that “divine connection” with their midwife Afua. We certainly know the difference that the level of care can make, and how important it was for us to feel connected and have a deep sense of trust with our midwives. And get this - they are a podcasting couple as well! Their show “Get Your Money Right” is all about financial well-being. We can dig that (since babies aren't cheap!). Listen in and enjoy as we get to know more about Jarmar and Jonnelle, their family and their magical home birth! What if the story you've heard about autism is incomplete—and changing? On this episode of The Brainy Moms Podcast, Dr. Amy and Sandy dive into the science with Dr. Teresa Lyons, an Ivy League-trained researcher and autism parent who translates complex studies into clear, practical steps. Our conversation challenges the “lifelong and fixed” narrative about autism, explores why some children no longer meet diagnostic criteria over time, and shows how a health-first approach might unlock progress in speech, behavior, and learning. We talk about digestive health and constipation. We discuss the FRAT test and why a child can have “normal” blood folate while the brain is still starving for it. That's where folinic acid (leucovorin) comes in, supported by multiple trials showing benefits in speech, social connection, and motor control, with manageable side effects and thoughtful dosing. We also tackle hot-button topics with nuance: vaccines, detox capacity, glutathione, and acetaminophen. Two kids can face the same exposures and have very different outcomes based on genetics, immune status, and liver function. And we address the “autism cure” debate with care—respecting identity while refusing to accept avoidable pain, insomnia, or self-injury as inevitable. This conversation gives you a roadmap grounded in both evidence and empathy. It's outside the scope of what mainstream media talks about. It might ruffle a few feathers. But we're okay with that. The Hundred Years' War split Catholic Europe, with popes and bishops backing different sides in a brutal conflict between England and France. A teenage peasant girl named Joan followed voices she believed were from God telling her to fight for her occupied homeland — even when that put her at odds with churchmen allied with the English. Tried and burned by an ecclesiastical court, she appealed to the pope and died clutching a crucifix. Twenty-five years later the Church declared the trial invalid; five hundred years later she was canonized. Part 3 of our series on Catholic conscience when love of Church and love of country seem to collide. SUPPORT THIS SHOW Considering Catholicism is 100% listener-supported. Have you ever felt like God asked you to give up something that felt good… even godly? In this vulnerable and heartfelt episode, Amy shares a deeply personal story about wrestling with obedience, identity, and the unexpected cost of peace. From navigating a hard decision with a faith-filled yes, to processing the emotions that come with letting go of something you love, Amy invites you into a conversation we don't often hear: What if your next season with God requires a step of surrender before a step of clarity? She reflects on how obedience is rarely convenient, but always worth it. This is an episode for anyone who's been afraid to let go, scared of silence, or wondering what comes after the no.You'll walk away with renewed courage to trust God even when the path feels uncertain—and a reminder that when God asks you to lay something down, it's only because He's already made a way forward.Connect With Us:Website: https://www.youaremore.comFree Download: 5 Steps to Win Through AdversitySocial Media: Follow us on Facebook and InstagramEmail: amy@amywienands.comEpisode Minute By Minute:00:00 – Intro: The Message I Didn't Want to Give01:55 – When God Asked Me to Say No05:12 – Obedience Before Clarity08:30 – The Tension Between Peace and Pain11:44 – Is This the End or a Pivot?14:00 – God's Presence in the Process16:45 – When Identity Feels Tied to a Calling20:21 – You're Not in Trouble—You're Being Led23:40 – What I Know Now That I Didn't Then27:10 – A Word for Those Wrestling with ObedienceBe intentional, stay focused, and remember you are more!
In 1302 a devout lay Catholic was sentenced to death by a papal legate for refusing to surrender his city's freedom to foreign control. He spent his life in exile, wrote the Divine Comedy, placed popes in Hell for political corruption — and died in full communion, now praised by recent popes as a gift to the Church. Part 2 shows how Dante distinguished the divine office of Peter from fallible political decisions, defended patriotism as a Christian virtue, and gives today's Catholics clear permission — straight from Aquinas, Bellarmine, and the Catechism — to love the Church deeply while protecting their homeland when the two loyalties seem to collide. Lindsay Bonnar was one of the first moms we spoke with when we started doing interviews back in the day. In our part 1 with her (episode 20) we talked about the birth of her daughter Charlie, whom she originally planned to birth at home, and eventually transferred to a birthing center to have an awesome birth experience. At the time, she was pregnant with baby number two and planning another home birth. Now, our part two (and episode 85!) with Lindsay is about the birth of her son, Linken. Spoiler alert: they did it at home! Linken was born at home, surrounded by love and support. There were a few curve balls during the birth. Lindsay would later learn that some cord compression was occurring and it was causing Linken's heart rate to drop. At one point, Lindsay's midwife thought they might have to go to the hospital. Paramedics were called and as if orchestrated, Linken made his entrance just as the responders arrived at their home. Everyone was healthy, safe and did not need to be transported. With the concern of the cord compression, this meant Lindsay had to push baby out efficiently and in a short amount of time. She told us how she pushed him all the way down the birth canal in less than 10 minutes. She cannot emphasize enough how important it is for mamas to do their squats in preparation for birth! Lindsay's part 2 is really a testament to stellar care in the form of her midwife, a loving, safe environment to support her and the incredible tenacity and power that is the birthing woman. Handwriting isn't just pencil meets paper; it's purpose, posture, vision, and motor planning working in sync. On this episode of The Brainy Moms Podcast, Dr. Amy and Sandy sit down with occupational therapist and homeschool consultant Sarah Collins (The Homeschool OT) to explore how kids move from “hot mess” letters to confident, legible writing by addressing the real foundations: core strength, shoulder stability, explicit motor plans, and a clear sense that their ideas matter. We break down why cursive can be a game changer for productivity and flow, especially for ADHD and dyslexic learners, and how copy work—when used wisely—reduces cognitive load so kids can master patterns before juggling spelling and punctuation. Sarah shares practical strategies you can use today: vertical writing on mirrors or whiteboards, sand and tactile tracing, wooden letter forms, and programs like Size Matters for spacing and size or Learning Without Tears and its wet-dry-try sequence for consistent motor cues.Vision gets a spotlight too. From visual scanning to convergence, subtle eye issues can sabotage reading and writing. You'll hear how to spot red flags, when to consider referrals, and why multi-sensory practice helps the brain integrate “hardware and software.” We also revisit early milestones like crawling and cross-body play, connect them to later fine-motor readiness, and offer creative ways to rebuild those foundations if they were missed. Throughout, we focus on legibility over perfection, endurance for note-taking, and the powerful memory benefits of handwriting and summarizing in your own words. If you're a parent, educator, or homeschooler looking for evidence-based, real-world tools to make writing easier and learning stick, this conversation delivers. What do faithful Catholics do when the Vatican's diplomatic choices seem to conflict with love of country or local sovereignty? It's not a new question. For 150 years the popes formed a strategic alliance with the rising superpower France, invited French armies into Italy, and branded resisting Catholic cities as disobedient. Even the young St. Francis rode out on the pro-papal side. Part 1 of a calm, historical look at one of the longest tensions in Catholic life. Greg and Ed the Protestant explore a tension many feel today—does belonging to the truly universal ("catholic") Church mean we have to downplay or even apologize for loving our particular homeland, culture, and people? Drawing on St. Thomas Aquinas's teaching about patria (fatherland) and the virtue of piety, the Incarnation of Christ in a specific time and place, and their own experiences traveling the world, they argue that authentic Catholicism doesn't erase our rootedness in a particular place and people—it actually embraces and elevates it. Far from being in conflict, healthy patriotism and Catholic universality belong together: we bring the gifts of our homeland into the one Church that spans twenty centuries, twenty-four timezones, and two hemispheres. A thoughtful episode for anyone wrestling with identity, culture, and faith in a polarized age. SUPPORT THIS SHOW Considering Catholicism is 100% listener-supported. What if better writing doesn't start with a prompt, but with what's already living in a child's mind? On this episode of The Brainy Moms Podcast, Dr. Amy and Sandy sit down with Andrew Pudewa, founder of the Institute for Excellence in Writing, to trace a surprising line from Suzuki violin training to strong language skills. Andrew shares how deep listening, memorized repertoire, and deliberate repetition lay the groundwork for fluent expression—whether you're bowing a cello or crafting a paragraph. Input shapes output: the richer the vocabulary and sentence patterns a child absorbs, the more creative and confident their writing becomes. We unpack the twin engines of memory and imagination and why they share the same neural real estate. That insight reframes everything from read-alouds to comprehension: prior knowledge often outweighs decoding when it comes to understanding, and books ask kids to co-create mental imagery word by word. Andrew contrasts that with today's “cartoons on steroids,” where hypervisual stimulation, thin language, and passive consumption blunt attention and displace inner pictures. The fix isn't anti-tech dogma; it's smarter sequencing—long-form stories first, screen adaptations second, and daily habits that favor focus over flicker. Then we tackle AI. Yes, modern tools can collect and polish at lightning speed, but only students who know the underlying process will use them well. Andrew argues for paper-first drafting to recruit more of the brain—motor planning, spatial processing, and the intuitive, artistic networks that spark better ideas. From there, we walk through his step-by-step method for transforming reluctant writers: start with short source texts, build keyword outlines, ask structured story questions, and move toward inventive writing that recombines known elements. Along the way, parents become coaches who prize process over product and help kids stack small wins into lasting confidence. If you wonder about about attention, language, handwriting, and how to raise resilient thinkers in an AI world, this conversation offers clear tools and a hopeful roadmap. Greg and Cory dive into "the Filioque clause"—those three controversial words ("and the Son") added to the Nicene Creed in the West—and explores why it became a flashpoint for the Great Schism of 1054. Triggered by Pope Leo XIV's recent visit to Nicaea (ancient Nicea) for the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, they break down the famous triangle diagrams illustrating Eastern and Western views of the Trinity, the "monarchy of the Father," papal authority, and whether this ancient divide is truly bridgeable today. With historical context, scriptural insights, and honest discussion from a faithfully Catholic perspective, this episode sheds light on the challenges and hopes for East-West reunification. A must-listen for anyone curious about what still separates Catholics and Orthodox after a millennium. SUPPORT THIS SHOW Considering Catholicism is 100% listener-supported. Have you ever hit a wall so hard it made you question everything? That was me just a few days ago. I had spent hours—days, really—pouring into a Faith Forward workbook for our upcoming Thrive event. It was beautiful, meaningful… and then, in an instant, gone. The file corrupted. Everything I had worked on was lost.I'll be honest—my first response wasn't holy. I cried. I gave myself a pity party. I even tried to talk myself out of doing the manual at all.But deep down, I knew better. In this episode, I'm sharing the full behind-the-scenes of what that moment taught me. I'll walk you through the resistance I faced, the emotions I had to fight through, and the power of pressing on—when everything in me wanted to quit.I'm here to remind you: resistance is not a stop sign—it's often a signpost that you're on the right track. Whether it's your business, your marriage, your calling, or your next big leap… if the resistance is strong, so is the impact waiting on the other side.I pray this episode gives you the fuel you need to keep going. To rebuild. To trust. And to know this: if you don't quit, you'll stand in awe of what God does through your perseverance.Connect With Us:Website: https://www.youaremore.comFree Download: 5 Steps to Win Through AdversitySocial Media: Follow us on Facebook and InstagramEmail: amy@amywienands.comEpisode Minute By Minute:00:00 – When Resistance Hits Hard01:00 – Losing the Faith Forward Manual02:00 – The Breakdown Moment: “No One Knew I Was Doing It Anyway”03:00 – From Pity Party to Pressing On04:00 – Rebuilding with Megan: 20 Hours of Work05:00 – Why the Enemy Wants You to Quit06:00 – Resistance Is a Sign You're Close07:00 – Real Growth Happens in the Mundane08:00 – Relationships, Risk, and the Real Reward09:00 – What Your Future Self Will Thank You For10:00 – You're Planting Perseverance in Your Children11:00 – Keep Going: Even Small Steps Move MountainsBe intentional, stay focused, and remember you are more!
In this installment of the "OCIA: The Bridge to Rome" series, Greg explores Catholic moral teaching, starting with the shared love of the Ten Commandments across Christian traditions. He then unpacks what sets Catholicism apart: natural law as God's design knowable by reason, rejecting total depravity for a wounded-yet-redeemable human nature, distinctions in sin (mortal vs. venial, temptation vs. consent), the telos of acts, absolute moral norms, and virtue empowered by grace. Perfect for OCIA participants supplementing classes, curious non-Catholics previewing the faith, or Catholics equipping for evangelization. Discover why this vision often becomes the "aha" for Protestants investigating the Church. Today we have the honor of speaking with Jessicca Moore, a family nurse practitioner and a filmmaker. She is the creator of the documentary film “Why Not Home?” which explores why labor and delivery medical professionals are choosing to give birth outside of the hospital, in this case - home! The documentary itself is amazing. And there's no better time to watch it than right now. For one thing, today is Labor Day! And also, they're launching the film in both iTunes and Amazon today, so plenty of platforms and opportunities for you to check it out. In our conversation with Jessicca, we talk about her own decision to choose home birth, and through that process how she picked up on the trend of colleagues of hers making the same choice. What would it look like to dive further into the pattern of health professionals, who understand most of the risks, procedures and protocols, and yet are looking to experience birth outside of the general atmosphere where they provide their services? So Jessicca felt pulled to document this. We talk about some key subjects in the film, themes and topics it brings up that were particularly impactful for Matthew and me. Like some of the mind-blowing statistics around birth and a lot of the misinformation that is spread throughout the birth community. We even address some questions from listeners about the documentary. If you are considering or planning a home birth, “Why Not Home?” needs to be on your list of resources. Thank you again to Jessicca for seeing her vision through and for taking the time to hang out with us at Doing It At Home! Ever wondered why your child's spark fades the longer they stay in a school environment that never quite fits? On this episode of The Brainy Moms Podcast, Dr. Amy and Sandy sit down with master educator and homeschool expert Christy Faith to rethink the purpose of education and design a path that actually supports healthy development. Drawing on decades of work with families, Christy shares why home-based education isn't about recreating school at the dining table—it's about building a flexible team of co-ops, live online classes, tutors, and parent coaching that aligns with your values and your child's needs. We unpack the socialization debate with a fresh lens: belonging versus fitting in, and why peer orientation can derail identity and confidence. If your kid lives in fight or flight, learning stalls. You'll hear how reducing chronic stress at home can unlock curiosity, grit, and self-regulation without coddling. We talk indicators that school isn't working—rising anxiety, shame from labels, and mounting family conflict—and outline how to respond with deschooling, intentional routines, and practical supports that restore calm and momentum. Then we get tactical. Learn how to pick curriculum by educational style and place by skill rather than age, especially when learning is asynchronous. Discover why “it's the brain, not the books” matters: if working memory, processing speed, or visual processing lag, no worksheet swap will fix it. We share a real-world story of letting a teen experience safe failure to build executive function, and how to coach time management without hovering. Expect a balanced roadmap: fewer bells, more thinking; fewer labels, more growth; strong academics paired with resilient minds. If you're on the fence, this conversation offers clear next steps, free tools to find your homeschool style, and encouragement to make changes at a humane pace. Hey friends — it's Amy.Today's episode is a powerful conversation about igniting something inside of you — your confidence, your expectation, and your willingness to grow.Because if we're honest, most people don't lack potential…They lack expectation. They lack confidence. And they've gotten a little too comfortable staying where they are.In this episode, I'm talking about why confidence isn't something you wait to feel — it's something you activate. Expectation works the same way. What you anticipate, you experience. And growth? Growth always asks you to step outside of what feels safe before it ever feels rewarding. We dive into the tug-of-war every human feels between certainty and growth. We want stability — but we also crave movement. And when we choose comfort for too long, life starts to feel tight… like a coat that no longer fits, yet we keep putting it on anyway. If you've felt restless, stretched, or aware that something needs to change — that's not failure. That's awareness. And awareness is the beginning of transformation. This episode will challenge you to: • Raise your internal standard • Stop repeating habits that no longer serve you • Expect more — and act like it • Commit to growth, even when it feels uncomfortable2026 doesn't need more hype.It needs intentional decisions. My hope is that today's episode helps you stop negotiating with fear and start moving forward with clarity, courage, and conviction. You're not behind. You're not stuck. You're just being invited to grow.Connect With Us:Website: https://www.youaremore.comFree Download: 5 Steps to Win Through AdversitySocial Media: Follow us on Facebook and InstagramEmail: amy@amywienands.comEpisode Minute By Minute:00:00 – Igniting confidence, expectation, and growth for a new year02:20 – Why most people want change but don't experience it05:15 – Confidence is activated, not discovered08:10 – Expectation: the invisible force shaping your life11:30 – Certainty vs. growth: why comfort can quietly cost you15:00 – When life starts to feel tight, not peaceful18:25 – Why discomfort often signals growth21:40 – Releasing habits that no longer fit who you're becoming25:10 – Raising your internal standard28:30 – Making a commitment to grow in 202631:00 – Final encouragement and mindset shiftBe intentional, stay focused, and remember you are more!
In Part 2 of our conversation, Jacob opens up about the final stretch of his road to Rome—approaching the Tiber with an 80% conviction, navigating the challenges of a supportive but non-converting spouse, and raising young children in a spiritually divided household. He reflects candidly on the RCIA (now OCIA) experience: the intellectual satisfaction of answered questions, the paradoxical beauty of surrendering the intellect in trust, and the initial spiritual unease that gave way to profound peace at Mass. Jacob shares how disciplined Catholic prayer—especially the Rosary—transformed his spiritual life, why he chose St. Teresa of Ávila as his confirmation saint, and what the Easter Vigil felt like when he finally received Confirmation and First Eucharist. Wrapping up, he talks about life as a new Catholic running mostly in Protestant circles while resting in the “panoptic” bigness of the one Church. A hopeful, honest look at the real joys and tensions of entering full communion. SUPPORT THIS SHOW Considering Catholicism is 100% listener-supported. In today's episode we're chatting with Thea. She and her husband Alex planned for a home birth for their daughter Harley. They envisioned a peaceful, serene environment and she knew she wanted water. The decision to home birth was influenced by an awesome naturopath that she had been working with. Health and wellness is big for Thea - having her masters in integrative health and healing. So it was important that she have the type of care and plan that aligned best with her wellbeing. In addition to her birth planning and story, Thea shares part of her journey of a miscarriage before having Harley. She was firm on experiencing a natural miscarriage. We talk about how to support someone with a miscarriage, an area that a lot of people don't know how to approach or handle, despite great intentions and desire to help. Thea's labor was long and tiring. She eventually made the decision to transfer to a hospital. She reminded herself, “I chose to be here.” And with that awareness, she was able to stand in her power and advocate for herself to still ultimately have the experience she wanted. She ended up at peace with the decision and was not disappointed. And we can understand - because when you see baby Harley, you'll get it! Thank you to Thea for being another beautiful tale in our collection of home birth narrative - showing that every experience is so unique, beautiful and powerful in its own right. Pastor Kevin preaches this week on how "Jesus Prays For Himself" from John 17:1-5.
Greg introduces Jacob, a 34-year-old software engineer (working in AI), husband, and father of soon-to-be-four who's recently come into the Catholic Church after a rich intellectual and spiritual journey from evangelical Protestantism. Jacob shares how reading the early Church Fathers, St. John Henry Newman, and even deep mystical works like St. Teresa of Ávila's Interior Castle gradually broke down his skepticism and drew him forward through beauty, truth, and the living tradition of the Church. Rather than tackling a laundry list of objections, Jacob describes how encountering the fullness of historic Christianity felt like discovering a vast, living civilization he'd only glimpsed from afar. This conversational two-part series begins here, with Jacob explaining the early steps that led him to cold-call a Catholic parish and start asking questions. Part 2 coming soon! As New Year's Eve approaches and many of us think about resolutions, we're pulling a classic episode from the vault: "Our Duty to Improve." In this candid conversation recorded a few years ago, Greg and Ed the Protestant reflect on a question that's both practical and deeply doctrinal: Does God expect us to become better versions of ourselves? Drawing from Scripture (like the Parable of the Talents), the idea of stewardship, and their own experiences in evangelical and Catholic circles, they challenge the popular notion that "God loves you just as you are" means there's no call to grow, mature, or change. They talk about sanctification not as optional self-help, but as a real responsibility to steward well the time, body, relationships, and opportunities God has entrusted to us. It's a timely reminder that salvation by grace is the starting line—not the finish—and that authentic Christian life should produce visible fruit over time. Perfect for anyone making (or rethinking) New Year's resolutions through the lens of faith. Pastor Peter, Pastor Josh, and Pastor Melanie preach this week on "Ordinary People, Extraordinary News" from Luke 2:15-20.
Most of us flip to January 1 without a second thought, but that date only works because Pope Gregory XIII fixed a 1,600-year drift in the old Roman calendar. The problem wasn't just inconvenience—it threw Easter off by ten days, threatening the Church's ability to celebrate Christ's resurrection on the right Sunday. Gregory convened Jesuit astronomers, skipped ten days in 1582, and gave the world a calendar accurate to within a day every 3,300 years. That feeling when something small seems like no big deal? Like skipping your quiet time just this once, or that harmless compromise you keep making? In this episode, I'm preaching through Matthew 27:1-10, examining how Judas's betrayal of Jesus didn't start with thirty pieces of silver—it started way smaller than that. Just like American Airlines Flight 191 didn't crash because of one catastrophic failure, but because of one tiny bolt that nobody checked. Here's the beautiful truth: if small compromises lead to big consequences, then small acts of faithfulness lead to big kingdom impact. Jesus himself only ministered for three years within a thirty mile radius of his hometown, yet his obedience brought salvation to the world. What you'll learn:* The difference between remorse and repentance (and why it matters)* How the Sanhedrin's “small” unfaithfulness led to catastrophic consequences* Why the ordinary, mundane things in your life matter more than you think* Practical steps to check the “bolts” in your life before they lead to disasterKey Question: What is the bolt you need to check today?
