Michael has a new kickstarter for his book about Steve Holland. Steve was the physical model for Doc Savage when batman books started using James Bama to paint new cover in 1964, and Steve's real features continue to be the signaturer look for Doc 50 years later. Steve also starred in the 1954 Flash Gordon TV series. The book is a great tributekl to a forgotten Nerd Culture hero .Michael also talks about working with Howard Chaykin and Denys Cowan. Then we talk about his work with Music Icon Quincy Jones for his Qwest Record Label in the 90s including working with legends like Ray Charles.Also, stories about Michael's work on special features and documentaries for films like Creed Black Adam and Black Panether . He gives very candid thoughts on these films and stars like The Rock, Michael B Joedan and Chadwick Boseman.

From studying at the feet of Neal Adams, to breaking out with his legendary run on The Question, and co-creating an entire universe of diverse superheroes with Milestone Media. Founder of Milestone Media, which sold over 10 million copies of ground breaking comic books, Cowan has numerous credits to his name, including: Black Racer, Deathstroke, Black Lightning & Hong Kong Phooey, Batman: Lovers & Madmen, Blind Justice, Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers, The Question, Hardware, and Static.Static became one of the most beloved characters in the Milestone Universe, spawning a hugely successful animated series, Static Shock. During its run, the series was the only animated show not produced by Nickelodeon to dominate ratings. Denys directed and produced the series, which was nominated for an Emmy.As Senior Vice President of Animation at BET, Cowan was responsible for the creation, development and production of animated programming for the network. This included the development and production of the Black Panther animated series. Prior to his time at BET, Denys was instrumental in developing and Producing the first season of the prime time animated series, The Boondocks. Serving as Senior Vice President of Motown Animation and Filmworks, he created and developed a number of shows with Fox, ABC, Disney and Nickelodeon. More recently, Denys Cowan illustrated the Django Unchained graphic novel, which was inspired by the Oscar-winning film by Quentin Tarantino. Denys also created illustrated posters for Marvel's Black Panther and John Wick 2.Among comic book readers and collaborators, Denys Cowan is the stuff of legend. Denys Cowan comic books have gone on to sell millions. Cowan remains a prolific creator, illustrator, and producer. He is the recipient of the Humanitas Award, and he has been nominated for a number Eisner awards throughout his illustrious career. Denys is also featured in Robert Kirkman's “Secret History of Comics” in the episode titled “The Color of Comics” focusing on the history of Milestone Media.About Michael Stradford:Michael Stradford is a seasoned entertainment executive with a career spanning radio, music, and film. Starting as a radio announcer in the Midwest, he later programmed top stations like KKBT in Los Angeles. Stradford worked as a senior executive at Quincy Jones' Qwest Records and later led Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's DVD Special Features department and original programming for Crackle.com. After producing award-winning content for Warner Bros. The veteran artist has been in the game for 40+ years, and with executive Michael Stadford, has launched a retrospective art book on Kickstarter: Graphic Samurai: The Art of Denys Cowan. Denys' art has graced the pages of so many of our favorite comics over the years, including Deathstroke, Batman: Lovers & Madmen, Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers, The Question, Hardware, Static, and Deathlok. Thirty years ago, Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Derek Dingle, and Michael Davis founded Milestone Media to try to encourage diversity both on the comics page and in the talent pool. Static (minus the “Shock” at this point) was deliberately conceived of as a youthful Spider-Man figure for a new generation and went on to become the publisher's most enduring character. We discuss the series' balance of social issues and good-old-fashioned superheroics, the way it deliberately avoids easy answers and simplistic characterizations, and how Milestone stacks up against the other “startup” universes of the 1990s.

We take a trip to the Dakotaverse to rave about MILESTONE COMICS, the legendary African-American creator-owned comic line founded in 1993 by Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis and Derek T. Thirty years ago, Milestone Media dropped into comic shops. Their books were almost unrecognizable next to the other comics being published at the time. They were politically charged, radically motivated, and bursting with boundless creative energy. Founded by Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis, and Derek T. Dingle, Milestone Media changed the game and delivered iconic characters like Static, Hardware, Blood Syndicate, Rocket, and, yeah, Icon. If you want to understand the context surrounding Milestone's creation and its profound impact on the industry, you need to check out the documentary Milestone Generations, currently streaming on HBO Max. Our guest this week, Evan Narcisse, worked extensively on the film. He's also been cranking out rad comics like Wildstorm vs. Waller and the short story "Universal Beings," which appeared in DC Comics' recent Milestone 30th Anniversary Special. "Universal Beings" is a magnificent tale, a catastrophic tiny epic that smashes the original Milestone Universe from 1993, with the updated version dominating comic shops today. Inspired by the classic multiversal comic "Flash of Two Worlds," Narcisse's story allows him to confront contemporary notions of progress while supplying a kickass superhero adventure. What would 1993's Static think of 2023's Static, and vice versa? The conversation is thematically charged like all good Milestone books. Narcisse also takes a moment to celebrate the genius of Dwayne McDuffie and all the eclectic voices that pulled Milestone out of nothingness and gifted the world the Dakotaverse, an unparalleled comics arena.
