WORST. COMIC. PODCAST. EVER!
WCPEver Episode 330 - La MANO del DESTINO Kickstarter with J. Gonzo

WORST. COMIC. PODCAST. EVER!

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 21, 2020 58:25

On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we are joined in the studio by comic creator J. Gonzo, who has a new Kickstarter for La MANO del Destino, a Lucha Libre tale set in Mexico in the 1960s. Think wrestling with a Mad Men vibe, and you are on board for this project. What makes this project so unique is that the project is a flipbook. On one side, you can read the six-issue series in English. Flip the book over and you can read the six-issue series in Spanish. In between the two collections are pages of bonus material and pin-ups, giving you a 400-page book for your support. Now I know you're thinking, what about the rewards? Seriously, you want more than just the book? Well, there's art prints, doodles, the original comics... oh, and a LUCHA MASK! Name one other comic Kickstarter offering you a kick-butt Lucha mask to wear while reading this book. We'll wait here while you compile your list. You owe it to yourself to check out the campaign video on the Kickstarter page. We swear on the spirit of sweet baby Jack Kirby that this is the best promotional video ever put together for a Kickstarter campaign. Gonzo was answering our questions before we could even think of them. The video alone should get you to back the project, and the finished book is just bonus comic goodness. Now, the campaign is in the final two weeks, so we really need you to review this project today and show your support! Books will be in your hands for the holidays, so keep it for yourself or give it away as a gift. (Or buy two books, one for yourself and one to give away!) Sadly John couldn't join us this week, but he still gave us his choice for our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by Clint's Comics. As always, if you are supporting your local comic book stores, AND YOU SHOULD, remember to wear masks and gloves. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email. We want to hear from you! As always, we are the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! and we hope you enjoy the show. The Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! is proudly sponsored by Clint's Comics. Clint's is located at 3941 Main in Kansas City, Missouri, and is open Monday through Saturday. Whether it is new comics, trade paperbacks, action figures, statues, posters, or T-shirts, the friendly and knowledgeable staff can help you find whatever it is that you need. You should also know that Clint's Comics has the most extensive collection of back issues in the metro area. If you need to find a particular book to finish the run of a title, head on down to Clint's or check out their website at clintscomics.com. Tell them that the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! sent you.

J. Gonzo joins me to talk about the trade paperback edition of "La Mano del Destino". It is currently running on Kickstarter for another 47 days as of the day of this post. "La Mano del Destino" will be collecting issues #1-6 and is going to include a translated Spanish version of the complete story along with the English Version in a Flipbook format (that way neither language seems like an addendum or afterthought to the other).  "La Mano del Destino," tells the tale of a once-champion Luchador – who, after being betrayed by his friends and unmasked in the ring, agrees to a Faustian bargain with a mysterious promoter. He gains a new power and the identity of La Mano del Destino in order to exact revenge upon his betrayers. Set in a swanky, 1960's Mexico where Lucha Libre is intrinsically woven into all aspects of society and are the most important events that happen within this world, this tale winds its way through the machinations and motivations of all types who inhabit this unique setting.
