In this uncharacteristically emotional episode, Gerri and Darrell get all emo about chemo as they take on Marvel’s The Mighty Thor written by Jason Aaron with art by Russell Dauterman. The pathos is real as they discuss the Marvel Max classic, Alias from Brian Micheal Bendis and Michael Gaydos and then move on to more lighthearted, semi-autobiographical fun by tackling the outrageously meta Image mini run, Airboy from writer/artist team James Robinson and Greg Hinkle. Don’t miss the super-spoiler ending as they cover the Netflix series Jessica Jones starring Krysten Ritter as Jessica and the uber-rapey Purpleman, played by David Tennant! Questions? Comments? The majority of this episode was taped at the C2E2 after event, ICE, the Indie Comics Expo, held by King Bone Press in Chicago back in May. The first live panel is a discussion of independent publishing featuring Jon Westhoff and Bobgar Ornelas of King Bone Press and the Earth 2 podcast network, as well as James and Jason Ford, of the Wombmates podcast and "The Servant" comic. They discuss the challenges of getting your comic noticed and going digital vs. print. The second panel is with writer Ed Brisson. He has recently reissued his breakthrough title "Murder Book" as well as an excellent sc-fi prison tale "Cluster" and his unconventional superhero story "The Mantle" from Image. In part 3 Wendi catches up with writer James Robinson, creator of "Starman" and recent writer of Fantastic Four. They discuss the legacy of Jack Knight, the chemistry of sobriety, Battleworlds and his semi-autobiographical new series from Image, "Airboy".

Graphic Policy Radio returns this Monday! This is the show that mixes comics and politics, and this episode we lift the curtain to show off the scenes behind political activism. This past week controversy struck the comic industry (again) over the transphobic nature in part of the comic series Airboy. Graphic Policy, along with The Rainbow Hub, spearheaded the movement to decry the comic, and pull support of the comic by Image Comics, timed to coincide with Image Expo. You can read more about the issue here, and the action here. But why did we go this route? We talk about the issue, and dive into political activism including why this particular "ask" was made, and the timing of it all. But, that's not all! We're also going to talk about comics we recommend, that you should be checking out! So, learn a bit about political activism and organizing as we apply it to the comic industry.

It's the first of the month, so that means that Andy and Derek flip through the latest Previews catalog and share some of the upcoming releases they are most excited about. And April is jam-packed with solicits worth highlighting...which is one of the reasons why this week's episode is extra long. After sharing a bit of listener mail -- and it's always great to get letters, so keep those correspondences a-comin'! -- the guys jump into this month's offerings, beginning where they usually do with Dark Horse Comics. There they find intriguing titles such as Black Hammer #1, Bowery Boys: Our Fathers, Nanjing: The Burning City, and The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service Omnibus, Book 1. After a brief conversational detour about DC's Convergence event and the controversy surrounding Rafael Albuquerque's variant cover for Batgirl #41, the Two Guys highlight Will Eisner's The Spirit: A Celebration of 75 Years and the final issue of Fables (pulling double duty as issue #150 and volume 22 of the trade paperbacks), both from DC/Vertigo. From there the good stuff just keeps on coming, including upcoming titles such as Long Distance #1, Bacchus Ominbus Edition Vol. One, American Barbarian: The Complete Series, and Bravo for Adventures (all from IDW Publishing); Airboy #1, Starve #1, 8House: Arclight #1, Empty Zone #1, Astronauts in Trouble #1, Nonplayer #1, and the XXX variant of Sex Criminals #11 (Image Comics); Pope Hats #4 (AdHouse); Death in Oaxaca #2 and The Hic Hoc Illustrated Journal of Humor Vol. 1 (Alternative Comics); Mark Waid and Fiona Staples's Archie #1 (Archie Comics); The Fiction #1, Strange Fruit #1, and Broken World #1 (BOOM! Clay Wilson, Vol. 2 (Fantagraphic Books); Last Man, Vol. 2: The Royal Cup and Mike's Place: A True Story of Love, Blues, and Terror in Tel Aviv (First Second); Anomal (Gen Manga Entertainment); Re*Pro*Duct (Magnetic Press); Borb (Uncivilized Books); Junji Ito's Fragments of Horror (Viz Media); and The League of Regrettable Superheroes (Quirk Books). Derek and Andy also give a shout-out to all of their Patreon supporters out there, especially thanking for this week the several new $1/month backers. A big ol' hearty THANK YOU everyone!
