Parshas Matos & Massei, respect and faith The Parsha Perspective is in honor of Eretz Yisroel. May G-d protect our brave soldiers. May G-d return all the hostages in Gaza immediately. The Parsha Perspective is in loving memory of Edward Ben Efraim, Shlomo Ben Edward, and Yirachmiel Daniel Ben Gedalia. May their souls be uplifted and their memories a blessing. Click here to listen, watch and connect! Parshaperspective.com Our Parshas begins with Moshe teaching the leaders of each tribe many laws concerning oaths and promises. He teaches them how to make and annul a vow and under which circumstances a person can cancel a vow made by another. G-d then instructs Moshe to retaliate against Midian for sending their women into the Jewish camps to sin. Moshe gathered one thousand soldiers from each tribe and appointed Pinchas to lead the attack against Midian. We find out the special dispensation from the normal rules of inheritance for the daughters of Tzelafchad. We learn the lengths we must go and the distance we must travel to make our community whole once again.

Precept upon precept, line by line reading. Week 42 & 43 Torah Portion - Matot-Massei (Tribes & Journeys) Numbers 30:3-36:13. Translation: Cepher (7.30.24)Matot-Massei is a double Torah portion and the last reading in Numbers. In Matot, the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of the tribe of Manasseh request to settle in the lands east of the Jordan River, instead of crossing into Canaan. They argue that the region is ideal for their large herds, but Moses initially rebukes them, fearing they will discourage the other Israelites. However, the tribes agree to assist in the conquest of Canaan before returning to their land, and Moses consents to their request. The portion also discusses the laws of vows, highlighting the serious commitment they entail, especially for women.Massei recounts the stages of the Israelites' journey from Egypt to the Promised Land. It lists 42 encampments and emphasizes the fulfillment of Yahuah's promise to lead the Israelites to a new land. The portion also details the boundaries of the land of Canaan, the appointment of leaders to divide the land among the tribes, and the establishment of cities of refuge for those who commit accidental manslaughter. The portion concludes with the daughters of Zelophehad marrying within their tribe, ensuring their inheritance remains within the tribe of Manasseh. This underscores the importance of maintaining tribal boundaries and inheritance laws in Israelite society.

Why we console Hashem in the month of Av.
The Meaning of Menachem Av: Comforting the Father
1) In our locality, each household brings their garbage to a central waste-point. Our non-Jewish cleaner will normally take a bag of garbage on her way home at the end of each day. May she do so on Shabbos? [1] 2) A family owns a caravan, which they use several times a year. Otherwise, it is parked in their driveway. One daughter uses the caravan regularly for her music practise. Does this caravan have to have a Mezuzah? The pews in our ladies Shul are infected with woodworm and we plan to replace them. May the disused furniture be used as firewood? [2] 3) I opened a separate savings account in which I place Maaser-money. The account attracts interest. To whom does that extra belong: the Tzedoko or myself? [3] 4) I'm davening in an airport. If I face Yerusholayim I will be disturbed by passers-by. Is it permissible to choose to face a different direction instead?[4] 5) At Mincha on Thursday, 17th of Tammuz, we had four men who were still fasting. Were we able to: a) do Krias haTorah; b) have the Chazan say Aneinu?[5] 6) My work is in a hot kitchen. I won't manage without drinking. Do I fast or do I do my job?[6] 7) May our non-Jewish staff come in to work on the morning of Tisha b'Av?[7] 8) A doorway that has no posts, just the corners of the walls:[8] 9) It is our custom that the man who has Chazak also verbalizes חזק חזק ונתחזק. We go on lots of journeys in this world--small and big, to the mountains and to the beach...and sometime to far-off lands. But we learn from this week's Torah portion, Massei, which describes the Jewish people traveling and encamping in the Sinai desert--that the true purpose of all the journeys that Hashem leads us on in our lifetimes (and He IS leading us) is spiritual: to serve G-d, wherever and however we are--battling our negative traits, and expressing our positive ones, to elevate ourselves and all of Creation!
The death, burial, and resurrection of Yeshua is central to our faith. His death is seen as the ultimate sacrifice that would forever replace the Levitical sacrificial system of the Temple. But this is a huge problem. According to the passages in the Torah that spell out the parameters of a sacrifice, Yeshua—or any other person for that matter—doesn't fit the bill. So, if that's the case how do we benefit from Yeshua's death? I think we can find the answer in this week's 5 Minute Torah.
