The Message of Tu B'Av: Discovering Hashem's Love Welcome to Daily Bitachon . I apologize for not sharing this class prior to Tu B'Av , but its message remains timeless regardless. Our Rabbis teach us that the month of Av is not merely called Av —it is known as Menachem Av . Some communities announce, "Rosh Chodesh Menachem Av" , Sephardim similarly refer to the month of Elul as Elul Rachamim (the month of mercy). Two Halves of One Month The Chatam Sofer offers a profound insight regarding the month of Av. He explains that Menachem Av does not describe the entire month as a single unit, but rather highlights its two distinct halves: The First Half ( Av ): Associated with hardship and judgment. The Second Half ( Menachem ): Beginning on the 15th of Av ( Tu B'Av ), a new period of comfort ( nechama ) begins. Our Sages note that the word AV ( ) can stand for A rur (cursed) and B aruch (blessed): While we typically say on Rosh Hashanah, "May the year and its curses end; may the new year and its blessings begin," in a spiritual sense, this transition actually initiates on Tu B'Av. Just as the sap takes 45 days to rise up the tree—starting on Tu B'Shevat and bursting into new buds by Rosh Chodesh Nisan —so too does the spiritual energy for the High Holidays begin rising on Tu B'Av. The Miracle in the Desert Why is Tu B'Av celebrated as a holiday? Historically, it was the day the generation of the desert stopped dying. For 39 years following the decree of the Spies ( Meraglim ), every Tisha B'Av, those reaching the age of 60 would dig their own graves, lie in them, and approximately of the population would pass away. However, in the final year: On the 9th of Av , the people entered their graves as usual. The next morning, everyone woke up alive . Suspecting they had miscalculated the Hebrew calendar, they returned to their graves each night. On the 15th of Av , seeing the full moon, they realized the calendar was correct and the decree had officially ended. How Did the Sentence End Early? According to Tosafot (and as noted by Rav Wolbe), the people had assumed the 40-year decree began after the sin of the Spies. However, Hashem, in His immense mercy, counted "time served": He included the year they had already spent in the desert prior to the Spies. He linked the sin of the Golden Calf ( Chet HaEigel ) with the sin of the Spies—connecting the beginning and end of the Three Weeks. And based on the Golden calf , that happened a year before the spies the jail sentence began a year earlier The people entered their graves expecting the final wave of death, unaware that Hashem had mercifully shortened their sentence. When they arose alive on Tu B'Av, they realized: Hashem is not out to get us; Hashem is protecting and loving us. Although the miracle occurred on the 9th of Av, it was only on the 15th of Av—when they recognized Hashem's mercy—that it became a true holiday. Misinterpreting Hashem's Love Through History A recurring theme in Jewish history is the tendency to misinterpret Hashem's actions as hostility rather than love: Event Human Misinterpretation The Inner Reality Adam & Chava Believed the serpent's claim that Hashem withheld the fruit out of jealousy. Hashem instructed them for their ultimate benefit and protection. The Spies Believed Hashem brought them to the desert out of hatred ( "Because of Hashem's hatred for us..." ). Hashem brought them out of Egypt to give them the Holy Land. Destruction of the Temple When the enemies saw the Cherubim (angels) embracing during the destruction, the Jews feared Hashem was exposing them to mockery. According to the Parshat Derachim and the Chida ( Nachal Kedumim ), the embrace was Hashem's final parting hug before a long exile. The key to ending the "curses" of the year is changing our perspective: realizing that what seemed like harsh judgment was actually an expression of Hashem's divine care. The Power of the 15th Rebbe Yerucham Levovitz explains that when we bless the new moon, we do not focus on astronomical mechanics; we focus on what the moon symbolizes—the Jewish nation waxing and waning. Major Jewish holidays occur on the 15th of the month ( Pesach, Sukkot, Tu BiShvat, Tu B'Av ) because the full moon represents the moment when the month's spiritual influence ( Mazal ) reaches its peak maturity and strength. Moving Forward to the High Holidays Starting from Tu B'Av, it is time to prepare our hearts for the High Holidays. Key Takeaway: Realize that Hashem is a loving Father who seeks our best interest. By fixing the ancient misconception that Hashem's intentions are negative, we correct our spiritual course—moving from Rosh Hashanah to Sukkot ( Zman Simchatenu ), and ultimately to Shemini Atzeret , where we stand in joyful closeness with God.

As the Midrash states, “A lion arose…and destroyed… in order that a lion should come… and build Ariel.” Thus, when one sees that not only has Moshiach still not come, but that there has been another of exile, it is in order to give the Jewish people additional strength in their heartfelt demand that the Redemption come immediately and literally. The connection between 7 Menachem-Av and the Redemption is especially emphasized when it is tied to giving tzedakah. Although we find that nighttime is not generally the time designated for giving tzedakah, nevertheless, when the poor person himself is standing before you and he stretches out his hand, it is obvious that one must give him immediately – and especially since the outstretched hand and the plea of this “poor person” has already been ongoing for nineteen hundred years. It is obvious that the true and complete Redemption must come literally right now without any delay whatsoever!Excerpt from sichah of Monday night, parashas Va'eschanan, 7 Menachem-Av 5749 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=21-07-2026 לזכות שיינא בת מושקא שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה ז' מנחם-אב - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

ב' חלקים משיחת כ"ף מנחם-אב ה'תשכ"א ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=19-07-2026 Synopsis Our Sages taught that “The righteous, in their death are called alive, while the wicked, in their lifetime are called dead.” The reason is as follows: The life of the righteous (“And your people are all righteous”) stems from their attachment to Hashem, as the verse states (at the beginning of parashas Va'eschanan), “You who cleave to Hashem your G-d are all alive today.” Since Hashem is eternal and beyond change, there can be no true interruption to this life, chas v'shalom; it is only an external factor (the “lion crouching upon it”) that causes a temporary interruption, as the verse states, “Your sins were separating between you and between Hashem your G-d.” But this is a reversible change, not a change in essence. By contrast, because non-Jews were given life only for a limited period of time, not only do their lives ultimately come to an end, but even the life itself is not true life (like a “deceiving river” that is not a true river because it stops flowing even once in seven years). Although the decree that “to dust you will return” applies to both Jews and non-Jews alike, that is only because of the need for free choice; therefore, it applies only to the soul's descent into this physical world. But in Gan Eden, the truth is revealed: that they are alive forever because of their attachment to Hashem.2 excerpts from sichah of 20 Menachem-Av 5721. This serves as a response to the nations who claim that Eretz Yisroel does not belong to the Jewish people and that they stole it: The should know that at a time when their ancestors were still living as uncivilized cannibals, the Jewish people were already being taught to conduct themselves according to a system of justice and righteousness. Whatever did not belong to them, they did not take, and they took only what they were rightfully given by Hashem. Therefore, those who seek to take away any part of the Land from the Jewish people are engaging in theft and the opposite of righteousness etc.Excerpt from sichah of 4 Menachem-Av 5740 – to For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=16-07-2026

A neder demonstrates a Jew's power to take something ordinary and mundane and sanctify even through his speech alone. Similarly regarding nezirus: When a Jew undertakes a certain commitment in honor of Hashem, even if it something easy and simple (for example refraining from cutting his hair for thirty days like a Nazir), he becomes holier and brings particular satisfaction and pleasure to Hashem. It follows that this also benefits the person himself, because to cause Hashem pleasure is the greatest merit, and because Hasheem rewards him for it.Excerpt from sichah of 23 Menachem-Av 5744, to members Kollel Tiferes Zekeinim and Beis Chochmas Nashim For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=26-05-2026 לזכותהחתן הרה"ת שמחה בנימין הלוי והכלה מרת חיה מושקא שיחיו פישלרגל נישואיהם בשעה טובה ומוצלחתביום ד' סיון ה'תשפ"ו

He said: The lot has fallen for me in the month that Moshe died…” The reason he rejoiced when the lot fell on the month of Adar, rather than Menachem-Av (the month when “the troubles were doubled” including the sin of the golden calf and the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash) is as follows: Haman knew that the Jewish people were going to daven to Hashem to annul the decree. Therefore, he rejoiced when the lot fell on Adar because in Adar we find that Moshe davened at length to annul the decree (of his death on 7 Adar), yet his tefillah did not succeed. This is what the Gemara means when it says “but he did not know that on the 7th of Adar he died, and on the 7th of Adar he was born.” Rashi explains that “The birth is worthy to atone for the death,” but seemingly, the opposite is true – death undoes the effect of birth? The answer is that Moshe's birth canceled the effect of his death because when he was born, “the entire house became filled with light” – the light of Torah,” which transcends the limitations of time and space. We find that one of the main toys that little girls play with is a doll, in the form of a small child whom the girl pretends to take care of etc. In this way, the girl is preparing from a very young age for the time when she will grow up and Hashem will bless her with her own children, whom she will raise the way Hashem wants. When preparing for things that begin after marriage, the preparation is done gradually, but when it comes to things that begin earlier in life, the preparation begins even earlier and goes more quickly. For example, lighting Shabbos and Yom Tov candles, which becomes obligatory upon a girl at the age of Bas Mitzvah, and therefore, she starts practicing it when she is very young, as discussed many times. משיחת יום ב' דפ' ראה, כ' מנ"א ה'תשל"ה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=14-08-2025 Synopsis The baal haheilula [the Rebbe's father whose yahrzeit is on 20 Menachem-Av] writes how every detail of his imprisonment was aligned according to Kabbalah. Seemingly, in light of the trait of humility, how is it appropriate for him to write this about himself – but he himself writes that everything is by Hashgacha Protis. And this serves as a fundamental lesson and a wondrous lesson that everything is by Hashgacha Protis; one must only “Lift your eyes up high,” and then he will see “Who created these.” Therefore, when a Jew reflects on his state and condition, and sees that “you are the fewest of all the peoples” and that most of his time is spent on matters unrelated to spirituality, etc., he must know that the world that he sees is nothing more than an outer shell, and the truth is that “Forever, Hashem, Your word stands in the heavens”; even a decision made by a non-Jew to is in accordance with the secrets of the Torah. When a person is imbued with this perspective, he will not be intimidated by “the big world.”Excerpt from sichah of Monday, parashas Re'eh, 20 Menachem-Av 5735 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=14-08-2025

In connection with Aharon's passing the verse states, “And all the Jewish people wept for Aharon…” – “because Aharon would pursue peace and instill love between people in conflict” etc. The lesson is to “Be among the students of Aharon” etc.; all matters of spreading Yiddishkeit must be done with love – “loving the creatures,” and in this way one will succeed in “drawing them close to the Torah.” And then Aharon's Priestly Blessing (which he bestows upon the Jewish people with love) will be fulfilled.Sichah from farbrengen of Wednesday, parashas Ekev, 20 Menachem-Av 5738. The clear lesson is that just as one must be careful to fulfill Hashem's command in matters that are between man and G-d (“I am Hashem your G-d”), so must one be equally careful with all of the Aseres HaDibros, including those that are seemingly matters between man and his fellow. This applies not only when it comes to another Jew's soul or body, but even when it comes to his possessions, and even unvaluable possessions – “…and anything that belongs to your fellow.” By increasing in our fulfillment of this directive, we hasten the fulfillment of Moshe's request to enter Eretz Yisroel, “Va'eschanan (‘I entreated Hashem at that time')…,” with the true and complete Redemption literally right now.Sichah from Wednesday, parashas Va'eschanan, 13 Menachem-Av 5751. When Jewish children conduct themselves in such a way that they don't deserve to be in exile, they will leave the exile, together with the entire Jewish people and together with the Shechinah, as the Midrash states, “Come and see how beloved children are before the Holy One, blessed be He…when the children were exiled, the Shechinah was exiled with them.” (2) Today's Tehillim states, “And I will come to the altar of G-d…Why are you downcast, my soul, and why are you perturbed within me? Hope to G-d…” – when a Jew is perturbed and wonders how it's possible that after hundreds of years in exile Moshiach Tzidkeinu will arrive in a single moment, he is told, “Hope to G-d” – it is clear that by trusting in Hashem, “I will come to the altar of G-d…” literally right now.2 excerpts from Sunday, parashas Va'eschanan, 7 Menachem-Av 5740 – to children For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=01-08-2025 לזכות שיינא בת מושקא שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה ז' מנחם-אב - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

The Sanhedrin was exiled, but the Divine Presence did not go into exile with them. The priestly watches were exiled, but the Divine Presence did not go into exile with them. But when the children were exiled, the Divine Presence went into exile with them, as it is written: ‘Her young children went into captivity before the enemy…' and then immediately, ‘Gone from the daughter of Tzion is all her splendor.'” Based on this, it is understood that the nullification of the cause of the exile and the return to our Holy Land depends first and foremost on the Torah, tefillah, and tzedakah of Jewish children.2 sichos delivered to children, Thursday, parashas Devarim, 4 Menachem-Av 5740 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=29-07-2025

You must not favor anyone in judgment…Bring to me any case that is too difficult for you and I will hear it.” The lesson is that when a Jew finds himself in a situation where he needs to judge himself and determine how to act, the Torah commands that he judge himself not based on his own desires, but with a just judgement according to Torah. And if the matter is difficult and he cannot decide on his own, he should not rely on himself but rather ask his rosh-yeshiva and the like, and follow their guidance.Excerpt from sichah of 3 Menachem-Av 5741, to Tzivos Hashem For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=28-07-2025

Our neshamos are always Godly, no choice there, but our bodies - that dont reflect godliness, those Hashem chose! When we are physically (body) in golus, so is Hashem.2. Like a king who said to his servants, if you are looking for me, *I am going to be next to my son.*What is deeper about this that is being added?Differentiation! Jewish Mothers - *we get it!* Where my kid is, that's where Ill be.*2 different situations*The father feels obvious cherishing of the child, bringing nachas! Warm fuzzy feeling, my delicious child, i'm with them! - neshama part of the yid, *nachas producer* , neshama is never affected by the golusRebbe adding! This is also true when it comes to the body. The body does NOT show Hashem. It looks just as coarse as other bodies. Mashal - if you are looking for me, I am going to be with my son. Ya this is my kid, i go with him everywhere he is at. *Hashem is with us in our tumah* . *Essential connection*Only in the Jewish Body (vs soul) do you see the connection of Hashems essence. I'm with my kid. Period.Hashem is ALWAYS with us. Menachem Av - Hashem is here as the father to his child.Level 1 nachas connection - *neshama experience*Level 2 essential connection - *body experience*Taking this even deeper...We also suffer loss, How can we comfort Hashem? The greatness of what the child can do > parentsLike a blue eyed child born from brown eyed parents, the child _reveals a recessive gene his parents have, but did not display._You have incredible power! Show up with all the emunah, all the positivity - WOW! This was always there in Hashem but not expressed until a Yid does this.We have the ability through our physical struggles, we are bringing out a koiach always there in Hashem - that had not yet been brought out.*All of us showing up in Mitzvos, Torah, we are bringing out Hashems “recessive DNA”. there is no such thing as a ME struggle - don't ever feel alone, you are Hashems essence being expressed*. משיחת אור לר"ח מנ"א ה'תשמ"ח ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=23-07-2025 Synopsis The name Matos signifies strength and firmness, while Masei signifies journeying and advancing from level to level, to the point that the previous level is considered like “Egypt.” This is why the verse says, “These are the journeys (in the plural) of the Jewish people who left the land of Egypt” – because as long as they hadn't yet reached Eretz Yisroel, they could not rest or remain in place, to the extent that they felt they still needed to leave “the land of Egypt.” The lesson is that alongside standing firmly in matters of Torah and mitzvos, one must also increase in his divine service, rising from level to level until meriting the true and complete Redemption, at which time all the elevations will be within holiness itself, including through the service associated with the left side, the attribute of Gevurah, which brings the utmost intensity to the elevation within holiness. During the time of exile, this is the service of teshuvah, the service of the left side, which is also expressed in the fact that all one's efforts are in a manner of “a double portion of wisdom,” which prepares for the Redemption. This is the connection to the name of the month, Menachem-Av, where the beginning and main focus is on the word “Menachem” (despite the fact that this part of the name was added later) whose numerical value “Tzemach,” which refers to Moshiach. And by making firm positive resolutions in these matters, we will merit that “they are immediately redeemed,” and the “journey” will begin “with heavenly clouds” toward the western side of the Jordan.Excerpt from sichah of Rosh Chodesh Menachem-Av 5748 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=23-07-2025 לזכות בנציון מאיר הלוי בן חי' שרה שי' וויינבוים ליום הולדת שלו כ"ז תמוזלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות‏

Similarly, every Jewish child must be a “judge” and “officer” over his own behavior and over his own room, making sure everything in his room, his sefarim and his tzedakah box etc., are arranged in an orderly fashion (for example, the tzedakah box should be high up on Shabbos so he doesn't touch it). And these “judges” and “officers” must be set up in “all your gates” – the “gates” being the eyes, ears, and mouth – making sure that only matters of Torah and mitzvos enter and exit through them. All this strengthens their connection to our Father in heaven, and in this fashion, every Jewish child's room becomes a “Minor Mikdash,” and Hashem becomes his “Neighbor,” and moreover Hashem becomes the “Owner,” and obviously a “Neighbor” and “Owner” like that brings good gifts….2 excerpts from sichah of Tuesday, Parashas Shoftim, 28 Menachem-Av 5749. This enigmatic month is called in Hebrew "Menachem Av,' which means 'The Consoling Father.' Ostensibly the name doesn't fit the reality of these days leading up to the fast day of Tisha B'Av, observed next week, which marks the destruction of the Holy Temple. Yet the vision of this month is the secret of the absolute Oneness of God, the vision of true reality: a loving Father calling His children back to Him with kindness and compassion. Jim Long and Rabbi Chaim Richman explore the inner meaning of the cycles of our lives that lead from destruction to rebuilding. _________ Rabbi Chaim Richman Jerusalem Lights | Torah for Everyone Please support the work of Jerusalem Lights, Inc., a USA recognized 501 ( c ) 3 non-profit organization to enable these productions to continue and grow: PayPal: infojerusalemlights@gmail.com or: https://paypal.me/JerusalemLights?loc... “The shift has taken place and it's time now to Go.. Go.. Go”, says the Lord!Do not tarry or delay just start moving. This is a time where you will be tested on what the Scrolls of Destiny say about you.Think on these things that God has spoken to you in the past to prepare you to now run the race with endurance . To keep your endurance high, make it a point to rest in what has been written already about you. What has been written opens up the keys of what has already been accomplished in the eternal spirit realms. You are simply just carrying it out in the natural earthly realms. This month of Av on the Hebrew calendar is known as Menachem Av or “God Our Comforter”. God is speaking to us from this place in the eternal realms. However, He is also speaking to us from the soulish realms or earthy realm, in that this is the month of August or Month of New Beginnings and we are approaching the 8th day or day of New Beginnings in the Month of New Beginnings. Two things are happening at one time. There will s an alignment between eternal and earth realms.God is dealing with you still on repentance issues and getting your heart clear as well as saying run, run, run and begin to step into all I have for you this fall season. Both are happening at the same time ! That's why your waking up at night or in prayer repenting plus talking to him about the next steps and how to move ahead. Do what has been written ! You need confidence to remember that we walk by the spirit in faith not by flesh and in sight.Hebrews 10: 36-38 (NASB) reads, “or you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE, HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY. 38 BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH; AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM.”Philippians 4:6-7 (NASB) reads, “ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”Anxiousness will decrease when you rest on not giving sacrifices but true offerings during this time . Now offerings can hurt. It will require a lot of faith in this time of acceleration. This is time for your faith capacity to increase and that only happens when we exercise it.We only get anxious when we are trying to do something not in faith. Rest in the truth that it's all been written first in eternal realms, you are just carrying it out by faith in natural earthly realms !!Take a leap of faith and remain steadfast in the call and what was written about you! God will bring it to pass as you Go, Go, Go in your promotion time.Do you want to be trained as good disciples or biblical life coach ? Menachem Av - We bring our father comfort. This week's learning sponsored by 3 individuals!Chaya Musha bas Devorah Leah & Henna Shomerboth in honor of their Yom Huledes - May this learning be a zchus for a shnas bracha, ad bli dai!!* Thank you for choosing these sichos as your birthday gift!Learning sponsored also by Susan Shapiro in honor of the yahrtzeit of her mother (my Safta!) Basya bas Nessa. May her neshama have an aliyah and endless nachas!Want to get in on sponsoring? PM me!Sicha Summary NotesEver had a moment where you were really stuck in your own challenge? In this month of Menachem Av, we comfort Hashem for the pain He is in.There are 2 dimensions of Hashem's pain of being in golus1. Shchina is with the yidden in Golus. When we experience our Geulah it is Hashem's Geulah. Our neshamos are always Godly, no choice there, but our bodies - that dont reflect godliness, those Hashem chose! When we are physically (body) in golus, so is Hashem.2. Like a king who said to his servants, if you are looking for me, I am going to be next to my son. What is deeper about this that is being added?Differentiation! Jewish Mothers - we get it! Where my kid is, that's where Ill be.2 different situationsThe father feels obvious cherishing of the child, bringing nachas! Warm fuzzy feeling, my delicious child, i'm with them! - neshama part of the yid, nachas producer, neshama is never affected by the golusRebbe adding! This is also true when it comes to the body. The body does NOT show Hashem. It looks just as coarse as other bodies. Mashal - if you are looking for me, I am going to be with my son. Ya this is my kid, i go with him everywhere he is at. Hashem is with us in our tumah. Essential connectionOnly in the Jewish Body (vs soul) do you see the connection of Hashems essence. I'm with my kid. Period.Hashem is ALWAYS with us. Menachem Av - Hashem is here as the father to his child.Level 1 nachas connection - neshama experienceLevel 2 essential connection - body experience Taking this even deeper...We also suffer loss, How can we comfort Hashem? The greatness of what the child can do > parentsLike a blue eyed child born from brown eyed parents, the child reveals a recessive gene his parents have, but did not display. You have incredible power! Show up with all the emunah, all the positivity - WOW! This was always there in Hashem but not expressed until a Yid does this.We have the ability through our physical struggles, we are bringing out a koiach always there in Hashem - that had not yet been brought out.All of us showing up in Mitzvos, Torah, we are bringing out Hashems “recessive DNA”. there is no such thing as a ME struggle - don't ever feel alone, you are Hashems essence being expressed. Feel empowered! We can define the golus, tap into incredible koiach, Hashems essence pumping through us. Shift to new approach: Moshiach!(Chelek chof Gimmul page 214)

Rabbi Jacobson will discuss the following topics: Chassidus applied to Elul What does this time period teach us? Why is the entire month of Av called Menachem Av? With Elul approaching, what are some practical things we can do to end the year on a high note and begin the new year with the proper inspiration? What does “the king is in the field” practically mean? Lessons from Shoftim Why does the Torah command us to install a physical king in Israel when we have G-d as our true King? Why does the Torah prohibit kings from having more horses than they need? What is today's equivalent of a “city of refuge”? Does eglah arufah teach us that a community is responsible for the hurt and abuse that occurs in the area of their jurisdiction? What can we learn from the wildfires that have ravaged Hawaii, killing and injuring many people? How should I deal with my son who thinks he might be gay? To what extent should we be investing in restoring historical Jewish sites? Any advice for overcoming writer's block? Follow-up: Dealing with narcissism
