For Episode 53 of The HipHopHumboldt Podcast, I had the pleasure to sit down in the studio with Kemistree! Kemistree has been doing hip hop for a while, and has been doing shows in Humboldt since before the pandemic. During the episode, we talked about Kemistree's history starting off in music and growing up on the East Coast. Kemistree got into how she came out here and started navigated the scene. Kemistree talked about turning up at The Mateel, and the thrill of doing shows. We talked about the December 2nd 2023 Hip Hop Showcase at the Arcata Theatre Lounge featuring over 20 performers and a live band. Kemistree got into the 2022 Halloween show that also include a live band, once again coordinated by Black Humboldt and Brian Swislow. We got into some other topics, some important conversation about this incorrect idea that exists in the community that hip hop shows bring violence. "I think Hip Hop heals," Kemistree said. We talked about how things are moving out here and how this is the time to start tapping in with Humboldt County Hip Hop. We got into some recent community happenings and some perspective. We also talked about The How R.U.D.E. Podcast, how she got involved, and how enjoyable it has been. For Episode 42 of The HipHopHumboldt Podcast, I sat down with 2 legends! 2 members from The Write Up: Eli Fowler and Mika Sun! This was Mika Sun's first time on the pod and I was blessed to have him on. To start the pod we gave a quick glance over some history, what these gents have been doing at shows and parties in Humboldt County for decades now. They talked about moving the art of improvisation and freestyling forward in Humboldt County, from working with Brian Swislow during the Nucleus days, to Eli being on the Humboldt County Freestyle Kings, to both of these gents rocking it with Subliminal Sabotage. We got into a conversation about the late Mike Lee, and his presence on The Write Up album. We got into the Fatbol Cypher, and how important that infrastructure is for Humboldt County Hip Hop. Shoutouts given to Cypher General Nac One and Bob Doran. There was discussion about the importance of documentation, and how good footage used to be expensive and hard to come by, so shoutouts were given to the videographers doing it for the scene way back. So blessed to have sat down with Soul, Reeph, and JUiCE from City Hippie for episode 24 of the HipHopHumboldt podcast! We chopped it up in JUiCE's studio in Arcata.
