Hosts: Adam Gardiner and Andy Cupp  Candidates take to the debate stage for Utah’s 1st Congressional District  Three candidates vying to represent Utah’s 1st Congressional District took to the debate stage, trying to win over voters. Incumbent candidate Rep. Blake Moore (R), Bill Campbell (D), and Daniel Cottam (L) discussed topics on budget, government spending, immigration, housing, and more. We begin KSL at Night recapping their one-hour debate.  Senator Mitt Romney gives 5 warnings for the future of the U.S.  Outgoing U.S. Senator Mitt Romney says he’s optimistic about the future of America. At the same time, he’s nervous about several situations that could spell utter disaster. We discuss a few of the warnings he gave in two speeches yesterday. We also share why Senator Romney says that despite all of the issues facing the United States, he’s still hopeful about the country’s future.    Immigration policy: Does it have to be an ‘us’ versus ‘them’ situation?  Recently, an Idaho state senator made the news for telling a Native American woman to “go back to where [she] came from” during a local ‘Meet the Candidate’ event. This kind of vitriol towards people we perceive as outsiders and foreigners isn’t a new thing; it’s been something that’s been with us as a country since the beginning. Why is this?    Bill to be introduced banning large companies from buying homes in Utah  Utah State Representative Tyler Clancy is working on a bill that would prohibit large multinational companies from buying and owning single-family homes here in the state. The hope is that it would free up inventory for younger adults looking to purchase their first house. We discuss the details of this proposal and the state of Utah’s housing market.  Meet the candidate: Michelle Quist for Attorney General  Elections tend to focus on the major two parties: Republican and Democrat. But there are several third parties also involved. Today, we speak with one of those third-party candidates, Michelle Quist, United Utah Party candidate for Attorney General. Quist explains the basis of her campaign and why she believes she’s the one who will restore trust and transparency to that office.  Meet the candidate: Glenn Wright for Congress (UT-3)  With experience as a former Summit County Councilman and member of the Utah Association of Counties board, Democratic candidate for Utah’s 3rd Congressional District Glenn Wright says he’s ready to take his ideas to Congress. He joins KSL at Night to outline some of his policy positions. He also explains why voters should choose him to fill Utah’s only open congressional seat.  Senator Mike Lee outlines proposal for future Senate leadership  As the United States Senate looks to elect new leadership, Utah Senator Mike Lee says it’s a pivotal time to make lasting reforms to existing processes. In a series of posts on social media, he outlined several proposals that he says would “make the Senate work for the people again.” We spend a few minutes going through each of his points and share our thoughts.  *Re-rack: How to keep strong political feelings from dividing your family
